do you tell people that you are a webcam model,? I do. I moved to Vegas this year and when people ask me what I do, I probably exclaim im a webcam model! Most people have two responses:, "awesome that's cool I wish I could do that" or to "what is that?" after I explain what it is most people just grin and say what a cool job. Do you tell people what you do for a living and if so what is their response?

Depends! Certainly not family members and near-strangers. I've had a couple guys thinking after telling them that I was cam model that they could hit me up with dirty chat all the time/bother me incessantly about my job. 'Hey you working tonight? What's the dirtiest thing you've done this week? Think I could come check you out in while you're working sometime?' Ugh. Hell to the no.

I've told a few of my conservative friends that I'm a PSO- it's somewhat more socially acceptable, at least with the people I know.

Normally if I don't feel like dealing with possible judgment or questions I'll just say my vanilla job but if someone's even a tiny bit curious beyond that point, well, there's no way I'm affording my apartment on that miniscule paycheck. I'm getting bolder about adding on that I'm also a camgirl and throwing caution to the wind feels really empowering.

It is very wonderful that you are comfortable telling people you are a webcam model, but it honestly won't go well in most settings, some people think they know everything about it because they read some article about it or saw a documentary and those people who run off with their expert knowledge you feel like you want to strangle them.

Some people won't care which is great, then some support and love you no matter what you do. If your camming for a long time more then 5 years you will be able to better filter out which people oyu can tell and otherwise you don't

I tell everyone right away that I am a pornstar when they ask. I am an expat and if Im talking to you there is a chance we might become friends. I have had mixed results but I need people to know right away so if they are not cool with it we can both get on with our lives and if it doesnt bother them we can begin to form friendships. In the beginning I told no one what I did and this always lead to really awkward situations after we did become friends and they either found out or I told them and then there was this sense of I had lied to them and they felt tricked or betrayed.

I just dont have time for lies or people who cant be okay with who I am. When I first became big it was because I was on a big radio show in America and at that point no one knew what I did. They all found out really fast and I lost a lot of "friends". It was a huge wake up to me about who we think our friends are.

    I usually don't. I say I do affiliate marketing.

Of course they could have seen me but if so they are being creepy for asking in a roundabout way instead of just coming out and saying where they have seen me.

I see too much discrimination that goes on to want to reveal everything I do and I also I feel it's none of their business how I make a living. Too many closed minded idiots I don't have time to deal with and don't owe an explanation to. (Plus I do affiliate marketing too).

I don't because I've learned that most people are not worthy of such private information. I OWN everything I do and all that I am. I'm proud of it but there's a big difference between honestly and disclosure.

Another concern of mine is safety, I don't want to open myself up for potential sexual assault. We all know when men know you do sex work, they'll think you're a sex tool and all the sexual innuendos come out! I don't want to be subjected to that. I mean really, NO thanks!

This is one of the advantages of expatriating to a European country. The culture is much more accepting of 'sex work'.

I'm also an expat, but living in a fairly 'conservative' central American country. As such, I don't volunteer any info whatsoever regarding what I did prior to my 'retirement'.

yup this is a concern for me as well.

I live in Europe and I tell almost everyone right away. I don't tell my landlord for obvious reasons and I didn't tell the girl who was waxing my pussy last time HAH that would've been uncomfortable. for her, I don't really care haha. I don't wanna bother with people who aren't openminded enough to accept it. Being upfront about it even helped me once, I met a girl who's apparently a mistress and now I do sessions at the studio she works at. beating people in real life is fucking amazing.

Right I also dont just tell random folks like the girl who waxes me or the people in the supermarket and I agree that in Europe most people dont really care but when it comes right down to it Im proud of who I am and Im 100% comfortable with it so its just part of me, no reason to hide it or lie about it. Even with guys. I have been a pornstar for 10 years and I am in close contact with many many many of my fans and I have never had a problem. I truly believe that if I meet a weirdo its because I met a weirdo not because I am a sex worker.

I live without fear and never feel as though I am confined by the status quo.

When I first started camming about a year and a half ago I said that I wouldn't tell ANYONE but now I feel like they should know so they don't think that I am hiding anything plus I don't want to stop camming. I have told a couple of guys and they were pretty cool about and more understanding than I thought they would be. I usually go out to the club on the weekends tho and have a lot of friends so I said that I wouldn't date anyone from the club because I didn't want everyone knowing what I do but I met a really sweet guy that has a good job and makes really good money but I am afraid to tell him because he is best friends with another guy friend of mine that would probably run his mouth. Plus if it doesn't work out with this new guy he would probably tell everyone and y'all know how things get around, so.....not really sure what to do but I don't want him to be mad later if I don't tell him ;-( What should I do?

No. I do data entry and camming so if someone asks what I do I'll only mention data entry. I don't like people prying into my personal life for any reason. And if anyone happens to find out I cam, well fuck um. I say people shouldn't judge me unless they pay my bills. And if people aren't judging you they want a piece of the pie and expect me to pull money out my ass and give it to them. So I really don't trust anyone enough to tell them.

I used to tell people. I felt like if I hid it, it meant I was ashamed of the job. Almost all of my friends knew about my job, but only a couple knew my cam name. After more than a few problems from multiple people (them tracking down my cam name and sites, posting my real info everywhere, bragging to people that they knew a camgirl & here's her personal facebook & here's her cam sites etc) I realized it's really not safe to trust anyone other than other sex workers, and even then, people like to talk.

Now, I make shit up. Web design. Data entry. Social media marketing. I don't think it's worth compromising my security.

ETA - my parents know (they were told by someone who found my sites; they freaked out and it turned into a giant mess, so I wrote them a giant cheque, and now they don't bring it up), my best friend knows, my best friend's mom knows because she visits me once a year. Those are the only personal life people I've told in the last three years. Nobody else deserves to know.

I'm an anti-social person. I'm not shy at all. Mostly I don't like to interact with so many people in real life because they piss me off, I can't stand lack of respect and manners. Probably that's why I have such a big block list on SM. For me is like you're parents had no idea how to rise you as a kid. So, just some close friends and my mom know. Everybody is ok with my job, my mom is super afraid somebody from our family will find out. Honestly, if somebody will find out that's just how things will be, still that doesn't mean I should go over there and share it with the cashier from the supermarket.
That's my way of paying my bills. Some people work with their hands, I work with my vagina. Who has the right to judge me? Every-fucking-body masturbates to porn. Even those who point their finger got a boner from us. Everybody wants to play all decent, when they all dream about nutting a virgin's face in a bukkake.
When my landlord asked me what I do for living, I just told him I deal with marketing. Which is not a full lie actually, all of us try to find a way to sell our "product"/"image" in the best way. Is better not to tell the truth, your life will be less complicated.

Also to add to this that just hit me is that my mom is a nurse. she is pretty stricted about not telling people she works as a nurse. She is much on the side of I tell people I work and I work long hours etc but never says her job title. Which for us in this adult entertainment that might be something interesting to think about.

Wouldn't most people find it suspicious or begin prying if you just flat out avoid saying what you do? It's so common and expected to be open about it. How does your mom deal with that?

Just because someone doesn't mean you have to answer the question

Pretty much the only people that need to know what you for a living, is your cam business members/fans, and the government when you file taxes maybe not flat out file camgirl for income employment when you do your taxes but they are really the only ones that need to know because you have to tell them where your money is coming from.

There is also the flip side to tell people what you love about job but never tell them your job title. that is what a few dating coaches told me. one of them being Matthew Hussey when I met him at a seminar he had in town.

Yep. I have no shame about it. If someone wants to judge me for doing that kind of sex work,or any sex work for that matter, that says more about their character than it does about mine. I've gotten like 99% positive reactions from it and it's a great way to gain more customers if you don't mind people you know (from outside the chatroom) seeing you touch yourself, lol.

I struggle between wanting to tell people, and not wanting to.
I want to tell people because I want the job to be seen as an acceptable profession.
"Oh this girl is really nice and cool and treats others with respect... and she's a camgirl!"

Then again, I don't want to because guys get thirsty af.
    And hound me about it.
and actually I had one guy asking me for a show and wanted to pay through paypal...
I'm just like... where's my god damn ban hammer. owait this is real life.
I'll bop a mfer on the head if it happens again. lol.

I tell people online that haven't seen a pic of about camming.
If they're a guy of age that's interested, I don't mind telling them where they can find me.

I used to, but it puts a lot of undue stress and unhappiness on yourself, so why bother? Isn't life hard enough?

That's funny... I just realized I have yet to tell even one guy irl that I cam. Either none have ever asked me what I do since I started camming or I just automatically exclude it. I'm not a man-hating lesbian at all but I've been through enough unfortunate experiences not to trust a dick to be alone with me if I don't know it very well or have some precautions in place.

Oh wait wait, no, I did tell one of my coworkers who is a dude. XD He asked and I already said I was working after my shift that day so I couldn't very well tell him I was coming back to the same job lol. He's a cute little guy though, almost seemed shy about it when he found out.
