Excellent advice. You are NOT required to speak to the police. Ever.
Never trust a cop. Ever. They lie like rugs.

i wonder if this works though! cuz you know they're gonna try to use every loophole possible :/
Maybe but if he's going to give you a ticket he's going to do it. Let him or her do their job , don't do it for them. You are NOT required to answer any questions. Your pedigree info is right there on the license , registration and insurance card. Be polite but insistent - " I'm sorry but I don't answer questions . " If you get busted you get busted. Keep your mouth shut and just keep saying to yourself : " ka- ching , ka-ching ".

Failures in this video:
rustling about for stuff out of officers view. He may think you are hiding or retrieving a weapon. outside of metro areas, a cop is most likely to get shot in a random traffic stop
failure to notify of recording. Probably a sticker on your window would suffice, but some states, Mass included will arrest your for 'wiretapping' even though it will not hold up
do you want to get arrested and prove your point or go on your way?
If you get pulled over for no honest reason[really yes I am a white guy but this has never happened, I was always speeding, driving a shitbox, or both] this would be my non advocate advise:
If night, turn on the overhead light
lock your door
get your license and registration out and sort them high and up in the view of the car behind.
be polite
"what seems to be the trouble officer?"
hand over paperwork.
you do not have to be chatty, offer excess information. if you were speeding, never admit a speed or even that you were speeding, but imply the officer is doing his job, as in" I may not have been paying attention"
as a woman alone you have the right in most states to move to a populated area. In this case I would dial 911 on my cell as soon as the lights come on, and ask them to stay on the line. If an officer asked you to step out of the car on a quiet stretch of road I would suggest politely demurring and asking him to call for a female officer, after informing him that 911 is on the line.
This guy probably gets arrested on a regular basis, because that is what he wants.
this video will not save you from a dui or any traffic offense, and is in my opinion likely to get you arrested although for no real reason. Sure yo will not get convicted, but your bed at home is much more comfy than the cot at HQ
The infinitely vast majority of cops are doing their jobs, yes they are still assholes, pulling you over for 28 in a 25, but this guys behavior would attract more attention than not.
I really have only limited respect for cops, but I have a pretty good impulse for self interest, and acting like this is not in my self interest

One of my closest friends is a cop. He is the most caring understanding honest person I know. He really does take his job seriously and would never lie to get ahead. Even though some do in his department. There are good cops. They put their lives in danger all the time to protect citizens. Yes there are assholes who get power and abuse it. But not all law enforcement should be compared to the shit ones.

No, my reason for posting this was not to bash cops, I assure you.
I was with a guy, he was helping me move stuff to a storage..we got pulled over, & accused right away of being 'hypes'. We were both asked if we had served any time.
Also, I was asked in I 'had anything I shouldn't' in the car, which I never do..this was withing the first few minutes. He stated he had drug sniffing dogs with him.
After he took & ran both our licences, he then asked me what my guy's address was, which I didn't know, b/c he was helping me move & that's it.

I should say DUI is an occupational hazard for anyone in the bar industry, and if you are probably guilty then much of what he says to do is relevant[never record your drunken self though], although he does not listen to his own advice and mouths off quite a bit.
Again as marginal as my respect may be for many cops, it is still a hard job, and a little politeness even humor can get you out of a ticket or nuisance arrest

I don't drink/drug/smoke, period. So for me, it is not an issue.

OMG this video is terrible lol. He's being so ... sassy! I'm a blonde white girl and even I would never backtalk a cop, ever. Honestly, he's acting like he's on drugs, and there is no need to be this evasive and overtly WEIRD with law enforcement. It's definitely going to escalate and intensify the situation instead of defusing it.

I didnt think you were babe <3
I had a Barney Fife cop pull me over after I threw a cigarette butt out the window years ago. I apologized and was polite. I understand on being on your toes because you never know what was going to happen. He ran my ID and saw that I had an underage (I got it 2 days before my 21st birthday, lucky me). Was trying to arrest me because he was assuming my licences was suspended. It was my first and only underage, and you don't lose your licence until the second offense PA. I plead guilty because the cops that busted the party were nice and gave us underages instead of paraphernalia charges. You pay a $150 fine and throw you in traffic safety school with people who got DUI's. It's a scared straight sort of thing. Which I was doing at the time. I was nothing but polite and never raised my voice.
I ended up back in his cruiser, crying my eyes out saying this is not the law! Another cop stopped to check out the situation, ended up having to explain to him the law and telling him I was right. I ended up being let go with a warning. I filed a complaint. A week later, I got a great apology letter.

My first thought is, wtf are you doing, or appearing to be doing, that you would have to worry in the first place abt 'answering any questions'.
That said, I have opened this thread several times & have seen nothing in your OP except for the 'what do you think of this' at the end. Just big blank space. So clearly I am missing smtg. But from the comments here regarding the video, I would say the guy making it sounds like an idiot, who is doing every possible thing wrong in sm misguided effort to make a 'Stick it to the Man' point.
In general, cops have abt as much patience for bs on the job as strippers do. Don't fk around w/ them. Don't give them a reason to wonder what you're hiding. Just be polite, as stated above don't rummage around where he can't see, have your paperwork ready, don't volunteer anything, & if there is a problem, make a note of his name & badge or cruiser number.
ETA: video finally worked for me, & I stand by my previous statement. That guy is an idiot. Don't be that guy.

Well, I am thinking of traveling, being on the road more so I did want to know what everyone thought about it. I am not advocating it, but, as I said above I have been asked what I thought were unnecessary questions.
Right now I'm in an area where I've seen ppl get stopped by local, county & state cops.

...seems like he went through an awful lot of effort to GET a ticket.

I've lost track of the number of times I have been pulled over. Unless there is a problem, what he did was way more trouble than it was worth. Cops have a fair amount of latitude when it comes to road pullovers and can tie you up for a lot longer than the 15 minutes that this guy endured.
For starters, the cop doesn't need probable cause to ask him to exit the vehicle. This was determined by the Supreme Court. In some states, the cops also have the right to pat the guy down. From there, the cop could have claimed that the guy seemed intoxicated and insisted upon a breathalyzer. In many states, you cannot refuse this test without severe penalties.
Now it is true that one does NOT have to consent to a search of one's car, a fact that all too many people do not understand. However, a search may be performed if the cop: (1) receives consent; or (2) believes that he/she has probable cause. One should never consent to a search of the car as a lack of consent allows probable cause to be challenged in court if something is found.
I never tell a cop that I am coming from a bar, even when I am. I also never admit to drinking anything (I lie if necessary) or admit to anything else either ("Sorry officer, I don't/didn't know" are my favorite responses). But outside of that, I find that simply providing my docs and being reasonably pleasant is the quickest way of getting out of the stop.
So in a nutshell and IMHO: Don't admit to shit or consent to a car search, but don't be an ass either and do NOT resist any instruction.
I have no doubt that this guy was hoping to get asked to exit the vehicle and had every intention of recording the whole encounter. This guy clearly had an agenda and I suspect he was hoping to piss the cop off.

Never admit or consent to ANYTHING - You have an absolute right to remain silent.
As for cops lying - I'm sorry but they do. Every day. On their reports and in court. They invented the term "testilying " , not me. They often have quotas i.e. they have to right a certain number of tickets per day. Many have admitted it in their own lawsuits and when demonstrating : " We got the quota - you got the ticket ".

Yes..here in Chicago & in the burbs we have both red light & speed cameras. I can see to a point the purpose for them, but many times (my own experience included) they are rigged. I received my only red light ticket, about 2 yrs. ago, &, having checked back I saw the light falter..it never went to a yellow, but directly to red. Yes, there's quotas big time. I was told by a cab driver that the red light cams are in place to fund the pensions of city employees that somehow went missing, don't know if that's true or not.

Eric, I agree with you in principle, but you need to be careful in making those blanket statements. You absolutely have the right to remain silent and you don't have to consent to a search of your car (including not opening trunks or glove boxes if he says "would you please") or your person.
But you do have to exit the vehicle if asked. You also don't have the right to resist if the officer conducts a search against your consent - that is a matter for the courts after-the-fact. You also face automatic license suspension (and worse in some states) for refusal to submit to a breathalyzer and should only consider doing so if your level of intoxication is significant.
So knowing your rights and exercising them calmly is good, but being belligerent is generally bad, especially over a lousy ticket.
whirlerz, this video has solid advice for interacting with law enforcement. It was recommended by a professor I had who was concurrently a judge. Please please please do not emulate that "I don't answer questions" guy when you're on the road. Stay safe out there, lady! xox
Whoa. I NEVER advocated hostility or belligerence. Quite the contrary. Be as polite as possible. Don't raise your voice. Don't use bad language. Don't be insulting or sarcastic.
If you are told to exit then exit.
Breathalyzers are a toughie. To use one on you the officer is SUPPOSED to have probable cause - you look , sound , appear to be drunk. They are notoriously inaccurate. Likewise the eye test that many cops tout as objective can be anything but depending on just how they shine the light and tell you to follow it with your eyes. Even with a positive breathalyzer they are SUPPOSED to confirm with a blood test but most of the time don't bother - it requires a warrant.

Kaninchen, thanks so much for the excellent vid! &, good website associated w/it..
I never drink or drug, but, I can be unsteady on my feet due to my illnesses..so I can picture me getting out of the car, clumsily, & appearing wasted.
My ex told me that the field sobriety tests are designed to be failed, Idk if that's true.

yup....and he was happy about it, like he got away with something.
Ive gotten stopped probably 12-15 times in my life. Every time for doing something wrong(speeding, running a stop sign...etc.) Been polite, fully cooperated & Ive gotten off with a warning or completely all but 4 or 5 times. All that guys advice would do is guaranty me 12-15 tickets......an extra couple of thousand out of my pocket, 10 more days of taking off work to sit in a fucking courthouse.
Great advice.
