Question Advice about leaving your hair in its natural state

Hi Ladies, I've scoured the posts here and didn't see my specific question previously asked. I'm curious to know how you handle working while maintaining healthy locks? I know we're all well aware of the fact that excessive heat applied to your hair - no matter the texture, is not the best thing to do. I myself have naturally curly hair, I get tons of compliments, but I've always envied my friends with straight hair. I don't hate my hair, I just think I look more polished when it's either professionally styled or blow dried and flat ironed/curled. I don't think the "wash n Go" approach would be appropriate, yet, spending an hour-plus to blowdry and flat iron my hair, only to sweat it out a few hours later would be frustrating. So I'm curious to know how do you manage to still pull off a cute look and work, without looking like you don't care nor take care of yourself, if you don't use styling tools?

I get keratin treatments so that when I let it dry naturally, it is smooth and frizz free. The keratin really does help get rid of frizz and make it look smooth and shiny. I also use coconut oil as a styling product and it works really well.

Well, since I bleach my hair, I stay away from all heat styling, other than occasional blow dry when it's chilly..my thing was to use a straightener product, w/o the heat, & comb dry. It relaxes the curl somewhat, depending on the strength of the curl & the weather.

I have naturally curly hair too- I worked for about a year with it natural but my body was ripped and my makeup/nails/outfits impeccable. I guess that would communicate that I care about my appearance because it was the complete picture. I also gave my hair treatments and spent time 'twisting' the curls so they would dry into a great shape. I'm back to curling irons now because I get a bit sick of the same look but my hair was in far better condition without all the heat styling. Money wise_ no difference.

I use hair cholesterol from Wal Mart for $1.84 and only wash my hair once a week.

Its really humid where I live plus I sweat my hair out if I'm at the club and dancing hard. So I don't wear my hair natural to the club because of this. My go to products for straightening are coconut oil and instyler pro. When I do wear my hair naturally curly on the days I am not at the club I use the kinky curly brand products.

i do weekly overnight coconut oil masks, and a pre-poo coconut oil treatment every time i wash my hair ( just put it in a few hours before you wash your hair) to cut down on the hygral damage that comes from washing your hair. i also use a good leave-in conditioner ( shea moisture products are the bomb! read the ingredients of your hair products, can't stress that enough).
i towel dry my hair gently and then put it in a loose braid overnight to dry naturally in nice smooth waves.
i also have curly hair and i've learned that the only way i can do a wash 'n go with it is it its really long. its down to my mid back now and it doesn't give me any problems anymore

2nd'ing Simone's comment abt the length of your hair affecting how well you can manage it. I've got the opposite problem -- very fine, straight hair that holds a curl for all of abt 15min if I'm really lucky … but I still feel it would look much more polished if it could hold sm kind of smooth waves, & I do love curls, my hair just ain't havin' it. But I have noticed that it does behave differently based on its length -- I think the extra wgt of longer hair would help weigh down (& thus somewhat tame) your natural curls, just as it weighs down & destroys my fabricated curls.

As said above, I would recommend keratin treatment too. You may choose either a salon procedure ($150-$300) or try specific products for your daily routine. For example, covers a bunch of stuff, I even tried some of it, liked OGX oil and L'Oreal serum.

I don't use heat hardly ever..

I love Aveda's Smooth Infusion, it's a little pricey, but you can try it in mini sizes, they have shampoos, conditioner, & styling products.
I also like Ken Paves, they used to carry at Walmart, but I think you can get it on the website, (women owned, btw)

I keep combing my hair straight, (it still has some wave/curl but it smoothes) I use a Tangle Teezer brush to get the knots out, & keep it smooth.

If you go to a salon, please BE CAREFUL, there's WAY too many people that do hair, & don't know WTF they're doing, license or no.
