Default Anyone ever rented a double in which you shared the room?

I found an apt with 4 females that are all college kids with vanilla day jobs that I'll be sharing one of the rooms with another girl for a low amount. I'm stoked that I found a place to live temporarily (mid June thru Sept) which will give me a chance to actually get on my feet & save money once again so I won't be homeless anymore; however my question is have any of you ever lived in a shared room situation before & how did it turn out?

I met my roomie today & they didn't ask what I did for work & whatnot, they were desperate for another female to move in for the summer sublet so they can finish out the lease. She honestly seemed really nice & super chill. I move in on monday & ya the room is small but I will have a room divider up & also have it to myself for most of the day while she is at work. It's well under $500 a month & it's really all I can afford right now while I save to get back on my feet & figure out what I want to do from there. I'm not going to tell them what I do, I usually just lie & say that I do promo modeling & that some of the promo gigs go until 2 am at convention centers downtown blah blah.

Has anyone else lived in a short term situation like this before that turned out ok?

My last month or so of flight school -- was sharing a 4bedroom townhouse w/ four other ppl already -- upstairs & downstairs each had a master bedroom w/ bathroom attached, then there were also two smaller rooms upstairs as well. Renting there was a mess off&on, bc while there were not supposed to be more than 4ppl living there at a time, we had 5 my last month bc my best friend from school had moved back in, in anticipation of me moving out, so we shared my small room & the queen bed. It was worse a few months b4 that, when the main renter (I guess you would call him the subletter) was letting family friends stay in the upstairs master bedroom -- a married couple + their 4yr old. That was a little troublesome, so crowded, & the wife didn't speak English & was pretty much kept under the thumb of the husband.

Anyway, since the one girl & I were already close friends, it was a bit tight on space but not to much of a problem. The biggest problem we had was from our other female roommate. We had to change the lock on my bedroom door bc this girl would let herself in & go thru my stuff -- only my good friend that I was sharing the room w/ knew I'd been a dancer, so we sure as hell didn't want this other chick poking around & finding my dancer stuff! But the snooper was both immature & dull so the lock was sufficient to keep her out.

ya I'm hesitant to even hang any of my clothes in my half of the closet due to possible "sticky fingers" from any of the other 3 girls living there. I doubt they are going to be comfy with me slapping a lock on the door since it is being shared with 1 other girl, which kinda sucks but eh it's a cheap place to live for now. Did you put up a divider type thing in the room such as a curtain or anything? She said it was cool if I wanted to put one up so I'm still thinking bc it is already a small room. I was thinking of just keeping most of my nicer clothes with my makeup in my suitcase locked for when I'm not using them.

Well the room wasn't big enough for a divider. It was big enough for a queen bed, desk+chair, my cedar chest(goes pretty much everywhere w/ me bc it mainly holds linens & the like) & a little room for walking around. Tiny walk-in closet, the room was situated at the end of the hallway & believe it or not, was the larger of the two smaller bedrooms.

We were both also in&out so much w/ our different flight schedules that privacy problems weren't really a thing, & she knew that as a stripper I was ok w/ quick nudity while we changed clothes or dressed after showers. In your case, is maybe different bc you're coming into a house full of strangers. Maybe get a small footlocker that you can lock to keep work stuff private? My cedar chest has a lock on it as well & I have the only key

^ ya I'm hoping to have the room all to myself for the most part so I can shower & take my time getting dressed while she's away during the daytime. It'll be nice though bc for once I'll actually be able to sleep in for a change. I'm gonna hang my black sheer bed canopy over my bed which kinda acts as a divider in a way, it hides me away easily. So far the only room rules are just no loud music or movies after 11pm (which is reasonable bc that's what headphones are for). I asked about showering late at night & they were fine with it. I'm sure it'll be ok, besides its only til sept & by then hopefully I'll have enough for a single room or better yet my own studio again.

I lived in dorm-style residence for 8 months when I went off to university, so one room with two beds and many rooms like that on one floor. As an only child, I was a bit worried how that would go since I was used to having my own space and need alone time to recharge, but it worked out alright.

My roomie had a boyfriend who had an apartment in town, so she spent most of her time at his place and I had the room to myself the vast majority of the time. Although, once I came home and she and her sister were there, and it turned out that her sister was spending the entire week with us. That part wasn't so fun, but it was really the only thing my roommate did that bothered me during our entire time together.

It really depends on your personalities and schedules how well it'll go. If you'll be working at night and she's working during the day, you likely won't have much overlap where you're in the room together. Hopefully she's not loud when she's getting ready in the mornings!

For only a couple of months, I think you'll be totally fine. Maybe invest in a little lockbox to store cash and valuables, just in case. You just never know, right? And definitely keep your earnings quiet!

I did it for 9 months in school. Doable. I liked my roommate . I turned out to not like the other two as much ( 4 of us in a 2 bedroom ). As broke students, we learned to make it work though. Typing it out makes my wish I would have Danced sooner! Haha.
Your thing is temporary and sounds decent so far. If she really is out 40 hoots a week in the day and you mostly work eves, I can see it being alright short term!

yes, I think it will be doable in the end It's alot better on me financially than having to pay out the ass for motel rooms everynight & always worrying about where I'm sleeping at night & where I'm showering. I can't wait until I can start saving up again!

I lived in a similar situation but I was going through technical training for the military. It was for six months and I shared a room with one girl and our bathroom connected to another room so four girls shared one bathroom. As long as everyone is clean, considerate and consistent with any communal rules set in place there should be no issues. Usually if people are living this way it's because everyone is busy anyway so hopefully there's no time for drama. If stuff runs out replace it, keep quiet (headphones for entertainment and no blabbing on the phone), keep valuables secure. Short showers were a must for us but if you have time to do noisy things or take a bit of a longer shower when no one else is around to be bothered by it take advantage otherwise I just tried to be mindful of other people.

I shared a tiny room with a girl my first year of college in the dorms and I really did not like it. But we had similar schedules and I'm sure that was most of the problem. If you work late and she works during the day you won't have to share the space at the same time much. The only issue may be if she's getting ready for work in the morning loudly. Unless she is considerate then that won't really be an issue. My roommate at the time would turn the bright light on getting ready at like 6 am it was ridiculous. Also when it was time to move out I started getting my shit together and noticed I had a couple tops missing and found them in her suitcase. Never again. lol

But you'll only be there a couple months so just do it if it saves you money. Nothing was really THAT unbearable so you should be fine.

^ Ya so far so good, I'll be here a week on Monday & she is pretty cool. She's def more responsible than me in terms of running a tight ship hah. It's also an all hispanic apt with me being the only white girl , they all speak spanish for the most part but english to me of course. This week we've both been home alot & I dunno if she works or not but I'm in the room alot more than her & she'll come in to either drop something off of hers or grab her laptop & go sit out in the living room either alone or with the other housemates. I came in earlier today & I slept over at a friends house last night & when I sat on my bed to go online, she gathered her things & left the room to out sit in the living room. We're both pretty much respectful in terms of being quiet & not really blabbing too loud on the phone. She's nice to me & I totally feel safe sleeping next to her in a shared space so all I can do from here is just save & be respectful.

When I was in college I shared rooms with other guys and overall it worked out well. I made a few good friends. One semester my roommate stayed with his girlfriend most of the time, so I practically had the room to myself.

ya this weekend she's going to her mom's in another city which is cool coz I'd looove to have to room to myself as much as possible! If this works out I'm thinking I may end up doing this for awhile until I'm able to get money saved to where I can work when I want & not stress it.

I think it's a smart idea if you get along well with your roommates and you feel safe.

In college, I started out at IUPUI the Indianapolis campus of Indiana University. They did not have much on campus housing, so I moved in with three other women. I knew just one of them from high school. We knew each other well enough to know we could get along. The other two were complete strangers. Nice enough, but one of the girls was definitely not cool with me when I started stripping. So, my friend and I moved into our own, even smaller apartment for our Sophomore year. I transferred to IU Bloomington for my Junior and Senior years. By then, stripping paid well enough to pay for my own place. My senior year, I let my little brother and his girlfriend move in with me. She was cool, I guess she figured that since I was paying the rent she had to be cool. Strange thing was, my little brother was not so cool about me stripping. But, he kept his mouth shut for the most part. He was really bummed when I recruited his GF for a road trip and she stripped too. It was a very good thing he didn't find out until much later that his GF and I were doing girl/girl shows for serious bank.
