    Default older dancer

I'm in my late 30 ' s and do well, I work in the day and there are dancers my age and older too. I can't stand it when some guys will ask me my age and then say 'you're an older dancer' yes I am and if you want a younger one come at night. They will still want dances from me but they have to point out my age. Why do they do this?

Because they are idiots with no tact.

Sensible dudes don't care as long as you are attractive. After all age is just a number.

It's probably mostly because your age is a novelty. In the same way that if you had blue hair or another unique / obvious feature, they'd point it out.

I would come up with a generic, positive answer to shoot their way. "Yes! I always thought I'd get sick of dancing, but I still love it!" Or whatever. Say something about how dancing is your passion, blah blah blah...

Why do you have to tell 'em your age @ all? Just lie? Eh, men are weird.

Whenever people make useless comments like that (since I'm still in my twenties I haven't gotten that one yet but other things) I feel like answering something equally useless such as "your shirt is green" or whatever, but I don't.

When people say that you're an older dancer you could emphasis the good things that comes with age, experience etc, something like "yes by now I know what I'm doing" with a wink or some line like that to point out that to be a successful older dancer in this industry you have to be good.

I usually reply when they ask my age 'a woman never reveals her age and a man should never ask' but they then start trying to guess and they'll usually guess around my age. Which secretly I wish they'd guess younger lol. I usually do that if someone wants me to guess their age, I'll always say younger,

I'm 45 and totally get that I'm in the niche category of dancers. I own the fact that I'm older because it is a selling point for the right customer. My customers tend to be on opposite ends of the age spectrum with young guys under 25 and older guys over 40. I'm not sure why that is, perhaps guys in the adult-but-not-middle-aged category just aren't into older women as a general rule? If my age is a deal breaker with a customer, I'm good with that. I know I'm not going to appeal to every guy, but since there are so few women in the industry who are in my niche, I can just tell them my age to close the sale quickly or move on to the next guy.

I think men bordering on middle age (35ish) are still in denial about their age; spending time with a woman of the same age faces them with their own aging process. Whereas younger men are intrigued by older women (sometimes to a fetish level), and older men see them as young by comparison but mature and age-appropriate options for their fantasies.

My age has never been an issue before. (I became a dancer at 32). All of a sudden I became self conscious of it though. Maybe it's what I see I TV making me think you have to be young to be hot (plastic surgery etc.) I know even 20 somethings are getting botox now.
Anyway, thanks for reminding me that age is just a number. After reading your replies I felt better, had a good day at work and funny enough no one asked me my age.
