Default Girls this affects all of us! Please read

There is currently a proposal to lift the anonymity for website owners.

In short this means all of us girls who own/will own a website of our own will be subject to our REAL NAMES and IDENTITIES being available online for anyone to look at.

    THIS IS A HUGE DEAL.
I cannot stress enough how dis empowering this is for women in the sex industry.
It will mean that we have to get someone else to essentially "own" our domain names if we want to remain private.

PLEASE FIGHT THIS FOR THE FUTURE OF GIRLS WHO OWN THEIR OWN WEBSITES.

Thanks for posting this SophiaNZ. This is going to majorly suck. From what I've read online, it looks like ICANN is caving to gov't./corporate demands and this is pretty much a done deal.

Below is a link to a blog posting that talks about all the gory details. For folks like us who have their own domains/websites and who like to remain anonymous using Whoisguard this could be very problematic. Oh, and fuggetabout paying in bitcoins for your domains to Namecheap.

    https://blog.nearlyfreespeech.net/20...iness-privacy/

ICANN's working group "is still debating whether accredited proxy providers would be required to comply with law enforcement requests not to tell a registrant about an inquiry, even and expressly in the absence of any legal requirement to do so."

Better yet - Requiring a court order to release information to someone who asks for it is specifically called out as prohibited. I.e. an accredited privacy or proxy provider would be required to have a policy allowing disclosure of your private information based solely on “well it sounds like they have a good reason.”

This potentially has enormous impact for all of us.

    THANKYOU! x100!
    Holy shit someone "gets it"
You would not believe the amount of people on here/other forums/ and twitter who have been all about telling me that this isnt a big deal.
The more that the girls deny the implications of this the more off gaurd they will get caught when the time comes.
Thanks for the link, I have posted it on my twitter.
I am so over people who know nothing about the internet talking shit-it has been super annoying trying to get the word out with all these supposed "experts" muddying the waters and misleading the girls with their own BS ill informed opinions.

    There is no ability for...
    "just use a fake name"
"Just use a pre paid card"
    "I have beenfine so far"
    "just use paypal"
etc etc etc the list goes on.

All girls need to prepare now
Read over the facts, not theories

This is so totally huge for our industry. I can't believe people aren't screaming and jumping up and down over it. They *will* think it's a big deal when they find out they can't protect their privacy anymore! It really goes beyond that -- we're living in a nanny state and stuff just gets slipped into Bills and passed thru Congress without anyone batting an eyelash anyways. Oh well...

    Emailed ICann.

That is really really scary. Having a website is so important and is protecting privacy. This wouldn't be about just stalker clients finding out real details - but anyone.

I guess if its passed, people would have to rely on online ads and no website?

this seems to be a conversation that goes back and forth all the time

I use godaddy for my registrations and they offer this:

    https://www.godaddy.com/domainaddon/...istration.aspx

Nothing is fool proof, and you could always register offshore and use a proxy service.

I'm sorry but I did read the thread

I did investigate in case I was missing something

Yes there are things to be concerned about, but it does not appear that they are in regard to the usual sex worker concerns[stalking harrassment exposure] but more DMCA and FISA court kind of things that would bother wikileaks etc.

It is unusual to be exempt from law enforcement queries, although I would understand an escort for instance being concerned, usually incorporating and or registering offshore would prevent the nuisance LEO inquiries, or at least you would know it was happening

I am not disagreeing with your concern, but I think it is a bit ahead of the curve to assume that the average internet user will have your identity

I should note that complete internet anonymity has a downside as well, as your stalker attacker etc can hide behind it as well. Being able to get a court order to shut down suzysmith-is-an-escort.com is also useful.

"I think it is a bit ahead of the curve to assume that the average internet user will have your identity"

This is my entire point, we need to be ahead of the curve and overly concerned when they are still willing to listen to submissions.
Alternatively we don't bother to concern ourselves with it (as usual) , say absolutely nothing for ourselves (as usual) and then we scramble and freak out once its too late (as usual)

Me personally, my name is out all over the internet because IDGAF, however I really do care about the thousands of girls who do not have the kind of "out" life that I do.
Which is why I choose to speak out about impending situations for the industry that will be bad for it overall.
I am not doing a "sky is falling" freak out ok (I am also a developer) so it means that I know what things mean for us in an industry-specific way and I like to alert the girls when I can.

This IS important that we speak out against it by taking 3 minutes to send in a "NO" submission.
You might like the idea of not worrying about it, but I prefer to be vigilant and stick up for ourselves when we have the opportunity to.
That is the entire point of fighting for the sex industry!

(You are talking about 2 different things when it comes to your last point so I am not going to go down a tangent unrelated to this topic with that.)

**I am going to give you an example of how great things can be when you stand up for things (sex industry specific) BEFORE they go bad...hopefully this will further explain my point.

In New Zealand we have various benefits of being supported as sex workers.

The girls fought damn hard to give us law reform and battled a system that was against them on all counts. (You can read further if you want)
Now we reap the benefits of their hard work 10-15 years ago.

An example of this: A young inexperienced girl was tricked into giving sex before she got paid, customer refuses to pay...she calls the police...they take him down to the ATM and walk him back to her place so he can pay her what he owes her!!!!
Now that is a true story of a working system (its not perfect) but its a start ok.
They were fighting for this...and it happened.

Now let me get to my point:

The fight is now for control of our own platforms ONLINE.
The internet is the new street corner.
    Different platform...same fight.

If those girls 10-15 years ago hadnt been fighting back then, we would have nothing now.

This is the reason we need to be over the top/ use our voices/ speak out/ etc etc

Taking things seriously does matter ok.

(More info is on my twitter as I have said enough for now, many of the sex work outreachers were in touch with me yesterday so there is a bunch of links etc, I have tried to repost when I can so they are all in one place if you want to read further)
