Default Toe Numbness - time to get rid of the shoes?

I know it sounds really bad but I've been wearing the same dancing pair of Pleasers for half a year now. I didn't get toe numbness until the last time I danced, which was two days ago! I am sure it's from the heels being high enough to squeeze my toes. Is it time to get rid of the old shoes and go with a lower-heel one? I hope this toe numbness isn't permanent

Yeah wearing the same ill-fitting shoe over and over again can cause damage to your feet. Hopefully its not permanent but you definitely need to throw that pair away / recycle and purchase a different style. Perhaps check with a podiatrists to make sure everything is okay.

How that same pair last so long is unreal. I give my shoes 6 months before Im on the hunt for a new pair. And try not to wear the same pair over and over again - rotate.

Aren't all high heel shoes technically ill-fitting and bad for feet? :p I only danced like 1-3 a week and often take a week off, so the shoes aren't as beaten up as the regular dancer's. But this week I began dancing more and with longer shifts so that's probably why I am starting to feel the effect.

I don't think it's permanent, there's no physical signs like bruising or purpleness but I'll definitely take a break for now. I just hope to hear that it happens and it gets better ;_; I bought a new pair/model already, but will buy more so I can rotate. I will put a podiatrist on my list as well. Thanks sweetie

I don't think ALL of them are. Ones with cushioning, support, platforms, shock absorbing soles are ones are better than the standard high heel imo.

I like the fact that Pleaser shoes - at least the style I am currently wearing - has a platform to it so even though they are 5 in heel height, the platform where the ball of my foot is makes it so that my foot is not painfully arched. The insole has some cushion but over time it wears down. And I do believe the friction of the foot moving in the shoe (caused by sweat, shoe material loosening / wearing down, poor fit, etc) can rub against and press into the toes creating problems like corns and numbness. Housemom recommended Moleskin - this was the best thing she's ever said!

Toe numbness comes from putting to much pressure on the ball of your foot causing a inflammation and swelling in the nerves to your toes. You said the shoes are old, you have probably lost the cushioning in the sole of your shoe. You can take naproxen 500-1000mg for a week. It should go away in a few days if you get new shoes or padded insoles. WARNING if you drink and take naproxen at the same time AND start seeing clay colored stop taking all antiinflammatories.

If the tops of the shoes are squeezing you and they're made of that plastic stuff you can use a hair dryer to stretch them out.

I have narrow feet I guess, Ellies were too wide for my toes so you could try those. Problem is I always scuffed the soles too quickly.
