Dizzy How to get smooth and awesome skin all over?

I really would love some tips, this is driving me mad!

The skin on my body is so blotchy and sensitive. I feel like it's always irritated. Also, I get these breakouts on my chest and back? Ugh, the worst! I've spent $$$$$$$$$$$$ on all kinds of products, low end to high and and had no results.

How to you keep your skin smooth, soft, clear and healthy? I'll try anything.

Have you seen a dermatolgist? Are you allergic to anything? I myself use no fragrance laundry soap.

    Eating healthy ofc n1.
I dislike apply lotion on my skin for a couple of reasons.
    1) im lazy
    2) lotions have nasty ingredients
I have very thin baby like skin. So i like to use almond oil, because it is natural and cheap.
I have a natural body wash " shea everyday"
so how i do it. Im taking a shower and when im done with my hair on head, and shaved everywhere else i apply oil on hot and wet skin, i let it sit a lil bit. After i just wash it with a body wash, cuz i dont like being greasy(i have a real silk bed sheets and they are expensive, i dont want oil on them).
You may have problems with a skin because:
    1) humidity
    2) food
    3) synthetic clothing/ also could be because of a dirty car...
    4) many other reasons
Once i got really nasty pimples on my back, i thought wtf and scrabed them...turned out those were not just pimples but a chicken pox.

    Hmmm...that's hard to say.

What products have you tried? I swear by Proactiv. It is pricey but it works! Salicylic acid does not work as effectively as Benzoyl peroxide for me. And whatever product you chose, you must commit to using it consistently as directed to see results.

Could be your diet. Or the type of clothing you are wearing (synthetic fabrics especially in the summer when you sweat can trap moisture against your skin causing breakouts. Could be your conditioner (does your wet hair touch your back skin after the shower? If so use towel as a barrier). Could be you are allergic to something in your laundry detergent (best to use free and clear detergents if you have sensitive skin).

Accutane changed my life. I used to have acne on my face, chest, back. I tried pretty much every product, prescription creams with benzoyl peroxyde, antibiotics, birth control pills, nothing helped me long-term. I finished my Accutane treatment a couple of months ago and hadn't had a single pimple since I started.

    Thanks ladies!

So right now I'm using all natural body wash, it's aloe based and super gentle. I got it at the health food store. My lotion is also all natural, some cocoa butter. I've tried Dove, Aveeno, basically every wash known to man. All with the same results.

I went to the Derm and she said use Cetaphil, Dove etc and prescribed benzoyl peroxide cream to put on my chest and back but that just bleached my shirts and towels and didn't get rid of acne

I wear 100% cotton clothes, bras, I eat pretty healthy though sugar is a huge addiction for me. I gotta quit that habit.

I'm going to get free and clear detergent, I'm using very scented one right now and it is totally bothering me.

I would LOVE to get on Accutane but the Dr said no way, my acne is not severe but she doesn't understand, I'm losing my mind over this! I have to use make up on my chest sometimes! So unappealing.

You know, I don't have my book w/me, but it's excellent..it talks about how sugar/yeast can encourage acne, among many other probs. I know taking garlic pills daily helps kill yeast in body. (Just eating garlic is not enough)
Another thing I do, is peel/eat a whole grapefruit every morn. Very cleansing, be sure to drink water/rinse mouth b/c of the high acidity.

Also your hormones may be out of balance - maybe your doctor can check on this? And perhaps your lotion is too heavy for your back/chest - like it could be clogging your pores. Cocoa butter is awesome but it is kind of heavy. If you absolutely need to moisturize your back and chest skin go with something non comedogenic. Cetephil is and that's good you use it.

If your doc won't prescribe accutane consider proactive I bullshit you not, it works and they have 60 day money back guarantee http://www.proactiv.com/body-acne.html

I use a natural body brush once or twice a week to exfoliate. I also sometimes make ground coffee and sugar exfoliators.
I oil cleanse and also use powdered goats milk and sometimes oats (or tumeric!!) as a cleanser/mild exfoliant.
I then use diluted apple cider vinegar or rosewater as a toner.
Then vitamin e (and I want to get vit a) plus either shea butter or almond oil as a moisturiser for my body and a cheap vit e moisturiser and rose hip oil for my face.

I try to use all organic and fair trade. I mix 99% of the above listed myself and it works out heaps cheaper than the crazy amounts of money I used to spend on skincare products.

I'm getting more into aryuvedic skin care. I also eat mainly plant based and try desperately to avoid processed sugars.

I have absolutely beautiful skin which gets many compliments.

    *Edit*
I remembered a book I found useful, you may too. It has lots of basic DIY recipes that are meant to help with specific problems.

sugar is so so so bad for your skin, especially where acne and wrinkles are concerned , or inflammation. have you tried substituting raw honey? sugar is the one thing i try to avoid like the plague for good skin.

sunscreen, every day, re-applied every 2 hours. badger ( or even say yes to) is the best sunscreen in terms of ingredients, neutrogena and banana boat are the absolute WORST.

emu oil, coconut oil, rose hip oil, and Unrefined shea butter ( its important that you get unrefined..it will be grayish or greenish or even yellowish and have a nutty smell. if its white its refined crap with all the nutrients taken out) are all great for your skin. read all the ingredients in your skin care line, even if its says "all natural", its a word they use to trick you, it means nothing. have you tried prescription Retin A yet? that's also one that will get rid of acne, but its so important that you put it in RIGHT before you turn the lights out at night and then really be anal about sunscreen the next day after you wash it off.

oh yeah and quitting all smoking, drinking, late nights with no sleep, bad processed foods, sodas, even coffee for a lot of people is totally a must if you want good skin. after i quit all that, my skin has been perfect, and i used to get cystic acne. so lifestyle and diet makes ALL the difference in the world when it comes to skin since its our largest organ and it reflects our health on the outside.
oh yeah, and i take 2 tablespoons of coconut oil or hemp oil everyday and it helps balance hormones

^ I don't believe the sugar thing. It's all I eat and processed foods and I get a pimple like once every 2-3 years and am 46 and have zero wrinkles. I recommend good body scrubs. Is this just on your body?

    Thanks everyone!

Miss.a.p1600- I think you are right about the hormones. I brought this up with my Dr. and she kind of dismissed it and just prescribed bc pills, which made everything 1000000x worse. I need a new Dr asap. I've just ordered Proactiv! And quit putting cocoa butter where I'm breakout prone.

Also I'm going to stop with so much sugar, I'm seriously addicted. Going to go to the health food store for some oils and a dry brush too.

Again, thanks ladies for all your tips, I'm going to overhaul everything in my body care routine! Xx

Dietary changes, lower stress, exfoliation...and herbal teas. Check out the earthclinic dot com site for a lot of good info. Different things work for different people. I have also visited every region of the US except for Alaska....I can honestly say climate/humidity/elevation affect skin like you would not believe. (For example, tropic heat gives your skin a nice humid boost. On the opposite, dry and cold can ruin it quickly.)

Indoor A/C can dry out skin too. (I read Madonna avoids using indoor A/C, most probably for skincare reasons. She has made other major decisions in her life with skin and hair health being considered.)

Update: I ordered the proactiv, overnight delivery. Have used it three nights in a row and and WOW! Amazing results. Also, I gently dry brush my body every morning, use a gentle organic fragrance free cleanser and Cerave body lotion afterwards. My skin is improving so nicely!

    Thanks everyone!

I use Benzac acne wash on my face, back, and upper chest. I have a hand held facial scrubber and i use it all over my body, I have an extra one just for my face, but i noticed since i started using one on my body it had helped keep my skin very smooth. Mine is water proof so i use it in the shower, with organic soap.

I having been using Proactive facial wash for years and I swear by it, I rarely see a pimple. I use a good thick moisturiser for my face at night. In the shower I just use a regular body wash and afterwards a simple body moisturiser. When I'm not working I try to avoiding wearing foundation every day, to try and let my skin breath. I think diet and lifestyle habits are important too, I regularly drink apple, cider, vinegar in a glass of water as it's very good for the digestive system and all round health. I have been having a vitamin in a liquid for call Silica for a few months, it's for hair, skin and nails.. I am really noticing how shiny my hair is and how good my skin looks, I think it's the Silica.
Also, I no longer drink alcohol and have up smoking cigarettes over a year ago. I notice when I get lots of sleep my face looks better, when I start to get run down or sleep deprived my face looks my puffy and aged.
For clear skin my best tip would be using proactiv face and/or body wash once per day, followed by moistruiser.

Just a random one from the supermarket at the moment. It's a brand called Olay. I don't think there is a lot of difference between the expensive ones and cheaper ones. X

Chances are it's something you are either eating and/or using topically.

Biggest culprits are gluten, sugar and dairy.

Also try all natural detergent and body wash. Gently exfoliation and a light oil. I swear by baby oil.

I've never used Proactive, but I would look at its active ingredients to see what is working for you. A down side to Proactive is that I think they use microbeads, which can tear your skin and are really bad for the water supply. They've actually been banned in some states because of this. If the microbeads are no longer present, ignore that.

For acne, the main things most people look at are clearing any underlying bacterial problem, reducing inflammation and exfoliating. Personally, for my body, I found that manual exfoliation helped tremendously. So I use a Clarisonic (Smart Profile model). Some people don't like Clarisonic brushes because they think bacteria in acne will stay in the brush head. I use a cleansing spray between uses, wash my brush heads once a week, and replace them every 3-4 months and haven't seen an issue.

Chemical exfoliation is another option. There are Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA). You can use either or both, depending on your needs. This is a great "cheat sheet" about the differences between AHAs and BHAs: https://i.imgur.com/iNjIZR0.jpg . So if your primary concern is acne, your first choice would be a BHA to help clear active breakouts. Salicylic acid is the most common choice, and it is normally used in most acne treatments because of this. Proactive might already have this in their body wash. (I would google, but I think there are different products, and I don't want to spout off wrong information.) Even if they do have it in the wash, you could add a BHA about 10 minutes after you shower. You can order a serum online, like at Paula's Choice, or you can get something like Stridex Maximum Strength pads at most grocery or drugstores. It's important to note that some people--not most, but some--have a salicylic acid allergy. Thus they spent their teen years using acne washes, only to make their skin worse. Definitely patch test and monitor your skin any time you add a new product. And try to only add one at a time, so you know how you react to each.

An AHA would be useful after you have adjusted to the Proactive and any other BHA or physical exfoliation you might add. An AHA will help build collagen in your skin and even out your skin tone. It will also help your skin to retain moisture, which will help since you are using drying products. You want to make sure you wait after applying an AHA or BHA before you moisturize. I would recommend at least 10 minutes, but if you're in a hurry, at least let the products dry before moisturizing. AHAs also cause you to be more reactive to the sun, so you want to either not expose yourself to the sun much, or use sunscreen regularly, or both.

With major body-wide breakouts, there could be an underlying bacterial or fungal problem. Many derms start with a topical antibiotic when treating basic acne. (Personally, I don't like this route. I do feel like antibiotics are prescribed too much, and for me, it has caused weird results. Any time I have an antibiotic now, I get tiny little whiteheads literally from my forehead to my ankles. It looks like I'm covered in fire ant bites. I haven't taken an antibiotic in almost three years now because of it, and I was able to get rid of my acne without this option. I have no clue what I'll do when I actually NEED an antibiotic. I have been taking a probiotic for over a year now to hopefully help with the issue. *shrug*) But if you aren't seeing the results you think you should after good skin care, perhaps you should see another derm and inquire about it.

Re: fungal issues, many people think they have acne when they actually have folliculitis. Products like tea tree oil (some people aren't very tolerant to it, so patch test and use a carrier oil if necessary--mixing with water will be ineffective) and selenium sulfide (found in many dandruff shampoos) can clear that up.

Some last thoughts: since acne has a lot to do with inflammation, I personally do see an improvement when I have fewer simple carbs in my diet. I also see an improvement when I balance my omega 6 and 3 more (fish oil supplements, watching what I eat). I saw you mentioned cocoa butter in one post, and this is very comodogenic (clogs pores) for a lot of people. I can only tolerate it on my shins--anywhere else, I get huge breakouts. You also mentioned CeraVe, which IMO, is a great moisturizer. Make sure you're showering regularly in luke warm water, using a fresh towel, and washing your sheets at least once a week.

    Hope some of this helps.

For me, it's all about my diet. I don't eat sweets - just a brownie is enough to make me sick. I don't eat greasy or fried food. Like, last night, I had a "treat" night where I had pizza, and even then I blotted the whole thing bottom to top with a paper towel to get rid of extra grease. No fast food. If I really have to eat out, I at least try to go for fast casual versus McDonalds. Lots of protein and grains - subs are my favorite food! But more important than all of that is WATER. I don't drink any soda. I will actually regurgitate any carbonated drinks I have, so ALL I have is water and smoothies. I used to have the worst skin before my stomach issues appeared and I was overweight. Now that I physically can't eat junk food anymore, my skin has been clear and I've lost weight in all the right places. Diets don't have to suck though! Have guac, have chips, have bread - just stay away from sweet, fried, and greasy.

I also use this face wash called Purity. It works miracles for my skin. I only use it every other night because I have dry skin, but I think it really contributes to keeping me acne-free.

BUT WATER DRINK TONS OF WATER. I don't have a single meal without three cups of water. I used to carry two 1-liter bottles to school everyday and I'd guzzle both of them down before 3.

Anti-inflammatory cream clears up most things. You'll need a doctor's prescription. Also, UV light helps with acne.
