Default Bra Sizing - Have You Ever Been Fitted?

I've read numerous times that the majority of women wear the wrong size bra. I never thought that I was one of them.

When asked by store associates if I'd been fitted before, I always shook my head and mumbled "I think so" and escaped into the dressing room.

Recently, a saavy salesperson 'sized' me by looking at me and brought in a few bras (in a different size) for me to try.

She pointed out the indentations on my shoulders and said that that was a result of a too large band size not giving me enough support. The support was supposed to come from the band, not the shoulder straps.

    Turns out, that I'm a 32DDD, not a 36D like I thought.

Yeah, I got sized after I got my boobs done. I've been wearing a 32 for my whole life, turns out I'm 28.5 (I think... can't remember exactly) around the rib cage.

It makes a bit more sense that I got such a huge jump (5 sizes) of my boob job, in reality it was probably only 4 since I was likely a 30C before the BA and not a 32B.

I have implants too but was never sized afterward. It has been years, since I had the operation before I even considered stripping.

I used to wear a 34B and started wearing a 36D afterward. I only have 325cc implants, but it moved me up two sizes. Since I was 10lbs lighter then, I was probably a 30D or 32C before my boob job.

I'm having trouble getting used to my new size-it feels so restricting.

i never know who to believe with sizing because a lot of stores do vanity sizing. they'll tell you that you are much bigger in the bra than you are, or that you are much skinnier, or pretty much anything that you want to hear victoria secret is the worst offender in that area. its so you'll feel that euphoric "my boobs are bigger than i thought! i'm actually a C! guess i better buy some bras that actually fit my boobies!" feeling and buy more.
not saying that's what was happening with you, or trying to come off as bitchy or anything haha. they say most women wear their cups too small and their bands too large though. i'm sure there is a formula i can google so figure it out, as i only own one bra and haven't gotten fitted in years

Well, don't the brands vary size-wise? So yea, you know/get fitted for your typical size but then depending what brand you buy. Someone posted on here some sizing formula, you measure, add some number get cup/band size. But it's better to have someone else measure you, not accurate if you do it yourself?
There's some lady (the bra-whisperer) that supposedly does great fittings, & there's a chain of bra stores that duplicate what she does..one's in Oakbrook Mall in Oakbrook, IL..Idk the name.
I went in there once, but you have to sit down & fill out a 4 pg thing, so I didn't wanna do that.

Several common issues with correct bra sizing ...

    - a couple of bra manufacturers are famous for their 'vanity' sizing ... most notably VS. They deliberately produce cups which are 1/2 size smaller in terms of cup size letter ... i.e. a VS bra D cup is really an oversized C cup and nowhere near as large as the D cup produced by most other manufacturers.

    - bra salespersons often 'cheat' on the correct cup size because they do not stock the correct BAND size. Lots of girls who actually measure a 30D, for example, will be told they need a 32C ... because the store doesn't stock 30 band bras and the 32C is the closest ( but still incorrect ) fit they can offer !!!

the last official bra fitting I had came out as a 34K or 32M for commercial sizes ... for a perfect fit I need a custom made 33 band size.

Every time i get fitted i get told I am a 34A, which is to small my for boobs, the band size is right, but never the cup size. I stopped listening to the people who do fittings and just buy my normal b cups.

In the past, extended bra sizes weren't readily available, so women had to fit themselves into what was in the store.

Maybe now fittings are encouraged so those new sizes will find buyers. I wouldn't have thought about it, except I was pushed into it. I was excited about my new lingerie though.

I also love to wear sports bras (WITHOUT the wire). It is difficult to locate sports bras with small bands, larger cups, and no wires. My favorite is Panache. I think they go up to an 8D (K?).

I agree that Victoria's Secret makes their bras 1/2 cup size smaller so that you have to go up a size.

Also, the cup size in my old 36D is almost the same as the 'new' 32DDD. It fits different though. Before the band stood away from my body and the cups sort of floated on top of my boobs. Now the band fits against my ribcage. I'm not used to it though. I like to be comfortable. Although, shoulder straps digging into me was not the greatest feeling.

    I'm a huge bra snob. 34G in Prima Donna. I wouldn't touch Victoria's Secret with a 10 foot pole.

Aside from the fact that they don't fit me, they're shit quality and terribly uncomfortable.

^At least they're sexy, I feel like bras for DD+ are so matronly looking. I hate that VS does their bullshit sizing because I could technically wear some of their DDD bras (they rarely make them but occasionally do) or even a DD and just up my band size if I just wanted a sexy bra I'd wear for a short while, but with their vanity sizing I can't even get into it.

I find them very ridiculous because I was a B I used to go into their store and they would say "sorry, we don't make this bra in a B, only in a C and a D." And now they say "sorry, DD is the largest we have."

Their vanity sizing is super frustrating. Their bands are so loose I wonder how petite women wear them at all and get support. And I hate how even the triple D's will still feel like they have another fake tit shoved in them.

As far as specialty sized bras go, Empreinte is my fav, but I'm larger framed and can wear full coverage bras without them overwhelming my figure. Aubade is terribly sexy and expensive....but they have beautiful lingerie that's got a good range of band sizes with large cups (28F for example). Agent Provocature is also sexy and expensive, but I actually don't find their bras very supportive....

Sadly, most bra brands made for young women (Curvy Kate, Freya, Tutti Rouge, Panache....) err to the side of cute over sexy. Which blows. Some of their designs seriously would look more in place on a pre-teen.

Mariejo and Twist are also nice bras aimed at a younger demo, but hit the cute mark more often that sexy.

I've been looking around at Adoreme.com lately and there's a lot of brands I've never even heard of that make some sexy stuff. But I've got no clue what the sizing is like or if they're comfortable, so I'm too chicken shit to order.

I was sized last Wednesday, everyone should, after my augmentation I measured a 34L. Panache has the best fitting bras for xl boobies.

I've had them tell me different sizes, so I just gave up and wore what was comfortable.

I think they *think* I'm a B sometimes, because I have big areolas and so they'll sometimes 'pop out' on pushup bras, especially if the straps aren't shortened correctly. So they measure me at a C, put it on, and go "Oh well this C must be the wrong size, but if we squish you into a B it covers those up"... even though my boobs are being forcibly squished in.

This is an excellent website for measuring your actual size. Seems like most retailers want to carry less sizes and so have bad measuring practices. The reddit thread that goes with it is a goldmine- I found I was wearing a too-large band which is why my shoulder straps always fell off.

For the longest time I thought I was a 36C. One day an associate offered to measure me and I figured "Why not?". I am a 34DDD. Just to double check, I went to the Fredricks in the same mall. Same result. For 26 years I was soooo wrong. It was super uncomfortable for the first week, but after giving it a chance, my back felt so much better.

I know everyone shits on VS, but if is weren't for them, I would still be in wrong bra size hell. I know it varies between companies so I use the size told to me in addition to the advice on how bras should properly fit (usually the same on all sites http://bustyresources.wikia.com/wiki...rmine_bra_size )

omg I was wayyyy off the first few years of wearing bras. I wore 34B and was pleasantly surprised when I got fitted and was told I was 32D... I thought the reason for my nipples always showing was bc I have large areolas LOL

My boobs are so small no bra fits them correctly,, the cups are always too far apart and the straps are too long even when cinched all the way. When I had a fitting done they told me I should wear a B cup and put the chicken cutlets inside. It looks good but not for everyday comfort thats for sure!!

So I finally got "properly" measured. 32 B says Victoria Secret employee Amy. I told them to get real, I am a 34 A. "it's the same thing." No it isn't. The band might fit me, but the cup sure doesn't.

I just buy what fits me. Always try them on, do not go by the tag. Because the vanity sizing is all sorts of true. And it tends to put us smaller ladies in a weird place. Most of the time they only keep a few in stock.

I've posted about bra sizing before but will reiterate.
There are technically two systems of sizing: a traditional one which was developed in the 60s and the modern one. Modern sizing determines your band size according to the ACTUAL measurement of your ribcage, or the closest even number. The traditional system adds 3-4" to your underbust measurement to get your band size. Both systems subtract your band size from your bust measurements to get your cup size. Which is why your cup size will be larger with the modern sizing system. Honestly, having studied lingerie design in uni and shopped for bras for years for both myself and with friends of varying sizes I think it is definitely a comfort/support preference equation thing. It is more comfortable to have the extra room in the band IF you don't require the large amount of support that the larger cup sizes need. If you are busty it is more comfortable to have the extra support from a tighter band. This is the "restrictiveness" you mentioned. I would recommend girls over a C cup go with the modern sizing system. But for C cup and under...there's not really a whole lot there which requires support anyways so...why bother? I know if I was more petit in the bust I'd be opting for comfort over support for sure since it's not as needed, and it's not going to make the drastic difference in how your boobs/figure look like the "proper" sizing does for busty ladies.

I was a 34B before my implants, although my doctor said he thought that I was an A cup. I wore heavily padded bra's all the time anyways so I probably was an A. After the surgery I can wear a 36C or 34D, depending on the bra. I went to a so-called professional to get sized 6 months after I got my boobs done, and she told me that I was a 32F. I highly doubt that to be accurate. 36C or 34D seems to fit me just fine.

The thing is though, size, it depends on the bra mfg, no? So yeah, nice to know your basic size, but depending on what type/brand you buy it's gonna vary.
