Avg typically 3-3.5min. Sm times a bit longer or shorter. I have one favourite that's 2:57 & another that's more like 4:55. Sm times the dj would cut it tho. Depends on the person playing the song.
It really depends on the club and the DJ. Most clubs I've worked at won't play songs under 3 minutes, but some clubs have played songs as long as 7-8 minutes long -- the latter has generally only happened in clubs where the stage/main floor sound system is separate from the music that dances are sold to, but not always. When I was a newbie, I worked at a club where the lap dances were done to the stage music, and I once had to do a dance to Stairway to Heaven. Boy was I happy when they finally got a separate sound system for lap dances!
sometimes the rock songs are like the longest lasting frkn songs ever
At my first club, they would adjust according to the time of night. When it got to the end of the night, the DJ would make me dance to 8-9 minute long Tool song... OMG. He was trying to stretch out the stage set without starting a new rotation but gaaaaaawd. Also, he would adjust if it was half-price dance day - shorter songs which was awesome.
Don't try to win over the haters. You are not the Jerk Whisperer.
Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
I've worked in places with clueless DJs and shitty equipment where they'd let the song run fully from awkwardly-quiet beginnings to awkward-fade-out ends. This can really get in the way of the club's natural rhythm, as girls will sometimes intentionally select songs that are extremely long or super short, and you have to give dances of widely varying lengths. I can remember a time when a girl used to play a 9-minute track as 'one song' of her two-song set, just to have more time to receive tips. Yikes! These DJs also tend to be the ones who spend their entire shifts socializing with / touching the dancers and staff. Really unprofessional. This tends to happen more in dives / low-mid-tier clubs.
I've also worked in clubs with competent DJs who cut the beginnings and ends off of songs, and only play tracks of a certain length to help standardize the flow of the club (dances, stage sets, etc.). This makes a HUGE difference in how the club functions. These tend to be mid-tier / high-end clubs.
