I love the OPI colors but I don't want to spend $10.00 per bottle. I've been using Finger Paints, they are only half the price of OPI, but not all colors go on smooth![]()

Maybe there's a cheap/crappy brush, or the formula's messed up..have you tried Sinful Colors or LA Colors?
I am crazy for these colors, (not inexpensive tho) this's the same person that started Hard Candy http://http://www.smithandcult.com/nailed-lacquer.html

I tried a yellow Sinful Color - but wasnt impressed as I had to use 3 coats and still couldnt get the vibrancy I wanted. It seemed watered down is only way I can describe it.
Finger Paints are okay.
I also like China Glaze and if Im in the drugstore Ill go for Sally Hanson Salon.
I also use a bomb a$$ top coat ...... that's like icing on the cake

I like China Glaze, with a topcoat it looks as fancy as OPI.
(Ultimate dollar store polish- LA COLORS. Love these.)

You should always use a base coat 1st, then the polish, then top coat.

I got some OPI for like $4 at Target, it was on their little 'overstock' shelf in the nail section. Check that out next time.
I like the Sally Hansen quick dry ones (not sure the exact name, they're in a bottle that's like the bottom half of an hourglass). I'm usually wearing Cinna Snap.

"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

Yeah, I know, I do them myself and I just want something that goes on quick. I used to get my nails done all the time, but money is in short supply lately and I'm trying to be more frugal.
WOW!!! $4, I will check next time. Again, I have to start thinking frugal, I always bought my polishes at Sally's and I'm thinking their prices are list. I like greens, I think green is a good color for me.
Sally Hansen Cinna Snap - Ooooooo!!! Such a pretty color, I'm definitely looking for that one.![]()

Sally Hansen and Maybelline both have some really good, vibrant colors that don't look watery at all and theyre only 3 or 4 bucks each. Base coat and top coat are definitely important so maybe buy a base and top from a more expensive brand like OPI and then just use them with cheap polishes![]()
You've got to try seche vite top coat. It dries fast and super shiny like the professional salon manicures. Best top coat hands down.

I like OPI, I used to use Esse all the time but it's hard to get it here so I usually end up buying OPI now.
It is expensive but personally, I really only have like 3 or 4 colours that I use on a normal basis. I have some crazy ones but it's pretty unusual for me to wear them. I find that when I buy cheap polish it just ends up chipping off the ends the next day. So I'm OK to spend more on my main nail polish and just buy cheap ones for the one-off colours.
I think that buying an expensive undercoat/overcoat are the most important, you can probably get away with cheaper polish if you have a good quality primer and top coat. The primer I use has literally lasted me a year (Esse) and it makes my nails super healthy and long, my boyfriend will even let me put it on him as it doesn't show on the nails, it's so cute to see him with his hand out. But you may need to go with a white primer when using lighter colours, that's what I do with light pink otherwise it just mixes with the colour of my nails and it doesn't look very pink. And really, as long as your nails are shiny from a good topcoat, they'll look nice.
Something I have to remind myself about nail polish is that it lasts fucking FOREVER. So even though $10 seems like a lot up front, think about how long it'll last you. Not to mention how much money you're saving if you're painting your own nails with high-quality polish rather than getting manicures.
And when something sticks around for that long, quality becomes more important (like the difference between a cheap sex-worker outfit and a more expensive one: if you only use something once, you can get by with the cheap one, but if you're using it all the time, you want it to be nicer).

You're right, that's something I forget too, I don't think I have ever used up a bottle of nail polish. I misplace it or lend it out and never get it back, before I finish it. Completely agree quality is more important in the long run. I really like your practical sense, it's something I want to copy for my life, that's one of the things I really like about you.
www.nailsupplies.us has OPI for about 1/2 price. You have to have an account and be logged in to see it, though. They also have many other brands for great prices.

Amazon also has decent OPI prices.
Sally Beauty does as well..

What about Sally's? They reduced the price of their Sally's card, it's like $2.50, & gives discounts on most everything, + coupons. They carry OPI. I actually like their store brand polish, but I do want to get the OPI color, "I'm not really a waitress".
