    Default Lip lift

    Holyfuckholyfuckholyfucky'all.

I have always had a top lip that is too small. I've also always felt I have too much space between my nose and top lip. I was about to get Juvederm--seriously, was going to do it tomorrow with a rhino consult--when I googled "too much space between lip and nose," and apparently a lip lift can give you a bigger top lip permanently while simultaneously reduced the space between your nose and lip. And one of the best surgeons for it is in Houston!

I am so excited. Has anyone had this done before?

I used to want this done so badly. http://www.drhaworth.com/pages/lip-lift.html

I will say though that filler will not shorten that distance. The same thing bugs me about my face and when I mentioned lip lifting surgery to create more lip surface to a doctor he said that no one really does it anymore now that fillers exist. But I dunno why because they are totally different things.

Apparently, this guy in Houston is known for them and his own method of a breast lift. I really think the space between my nose and upper lip throws my face out of balance, which is part of the reason why I scheduled the rhino consult, and I don't think fillers alone will correct it. I am thinking I would prefer to do the lip lift now, and if I still think my face looks out of balance, do the rhino in the spring when I have more time to recover. I'm wondering if an upper lip lift with the scar at the base of my nose would make a rhino more difficult though?

This looks a little cray to me. Not very noticeable results IMO from the link posted above. Looks like something achievable through creative makeup use. I guess for a $5k+ procedure, I expected a more dramatic result. That's just me being a judgmental ass though. On a more practical level, wouldn't this move part of your inner lip to the outside? Seems like that could cause some issues with speaking, eating, etc.

^^^I think probably not because they only remove a little bit? I bet if someone had so much removed that it made a really dramatic difference that those issues would follow. A lot of times women get the lift AND filler.

I was looking at Dr. Gary Horndeski in Sugar Land, TX. His Real Self reviews show that he charges around $2-3k.

But I just went in for a rhino consult with another Houston PS, and he said that he has done lip lifts before and doesn't typically recommend them. He said that they were very popular in the 80s and 90s, but that lip implants and injections are preferable because they don't leave a scar. I still dislike the length of skin I have between my nose and the pink of my upper lip, but I guess I will see if a rhino and lip injections achieve what I want.

Doing more research, a lot of surgeons are saying the scar is unnoticeable and completely invisible on some. Blah. I am going to send the Sugar Land doctor some photos and see what he says.

funny because i was just reading about philtrum length, i guess on females it should be 11-13 mm distance between your upper lip and base of your nose and i started obsessively trying to find a mm tape measure haha. and surgeries used to show the scar but they are far more sophisticated now.. but i see a lot of people on message boards complaining that after their rhinos it left too much space between the nose and lip so i'd definitely keep that in mind if you plan on getting a rhino too, and with age the philtrum only gets longer

My upper lift is about 15mm, and I read the ideal is 11mm. It sounds crazy, but it really does make a difference in my face. The surgeon I had a consult with yesterday says not to do it, and that he recommends a lip implant. But the lip lift surgeon's PA says that a lip implant will only further weigh down my upper lip, and that they frequently get girls in who have done the implant and were still dissatisfied. A part of me wants to do the lip lift and laser any scar I might find noticeable. Another part of me says I should do the less "risky" implant first and see if that helps to balance the bottom half of my face. Someone make this decision for me, because I am no longer capable.

I have thought about that too. I feel like the texture difference might throw it off though? I have seen some work for people with scarring too. It's amazing what a talented tattoo artist can do.

Is your upper lip really small? If it's not and you get it filled it may remove some mms. My upper lip is really small so filler hasn't done that for me. Filler ain't cheap though I could have had 3 lip lifts done with the money I've spent on it LOL.

My plan would be to change my lip surface/vermillion border with the tattoo then have the doctor fill my lips based on the new, larger, vermillion border, so hopefully there wouldn't be that texture difference. I'm going off of literally nothing though lol.

ETA the things we have to go through man....... lolol

^My upper lip is pretty small. I usually overline it a bit when I do my makeup. I haven't ever had fillers. I was about to do Juvederm when I read about the lip lift procedure. I just hate the idea of $600ish every 6-12 months. The surgeon I spoke with yesterday agreed to do a single upper lip implant under local anesthesia for $1575 versus a syringe of Juvederm for $522. Some people look really awesome with this type of implant, but I keep remembering Melonie's horror story of pulling hers out with tweezers...

^^I was thinking of Melonie's story too LOL. (LOL @ the coincidence not at the issue she had) Oh and I WISH it only cost me $600ish every 6-12 months....my body eats filler really fast plus 1 syringe just doesn't give me a noticeable-enough result. I'm going back with my gf for more lip filler in September and we both just had a whole syringe each injected last month, I'm going to ask them to divide 3 syringes in half for us so we each get 1.5 instead of 1.

The only thing that would make me nervous about a lip implant is how it affect lip movement after. If you get enough filler you can't drink out of a straw because you can't purse your lips enough, I would *imagine* that a lip implant would be significantly less flexible than blobs of filler. Are lip implants made to be extremely soft and bendable?

^I held the implant in the office, and it seemed pretty soft. The surgeon said that patients only detected the implant when they tightly held and felt their lips, and that I shouldn't have any issues with functionality. They use Softsil. This is their assistant or receptionist or someone who had it done in both lips.

***Edited to remove the girl's photos. They're on RealSelf and stuff, but I doubt she wants her face on a stripper site.

Honestly, I don't see much of a difference in the lower lip and assume she used a smaller implant (sizes are 3-5mm). But I do like the top lip improvement. I would only do my top lip if I did this.

I have decided to try a top lip implant first, then do a rhino in June 2016. Still not sure on the rhino surgeon. If the implant and rhino combination don't do the trick, I'm going to do the lip lift. My boyfriend knows I'm nuts about my skin and doesn't want me to risk a visible scar unless I've tried the other options first. I'm also going to do veneers on my front four teeth on my top jaw, which can help with the upper lip appearance in some cases. The lip is scheduled for August 11, so I will post progress photos!

^I'm doing a SurgiSil 5mm implant just in my top lip. My bottom lip isn't huge, but it is larger than my top lip, so I think this will balance the lips nicely.

This article says she claims she only did fillers, though she doesn't name her doctor: http://www.ibtimes.com/kylie-jenner-...r-pout-1912762

^I had maxillofacial surgery when I was 19 (breaking the upper jaw and resetting it to fix an improper bite--not plastic surgery, but definitely changes the appearance of your face), and although it improved my face, it did make my long upper lip way more noticeable. I am hoping the lip implant will draw my eye more to my lips than the space between them and my nose. But when considering a lip lift, one of the big components is whether you ever see your top teeth when you speak and/or rest your mouth. If you are happy with your tooth show, you may be fine just getting fillers/the implant. But if you have no tooth show, fillers/implants aren't going to help that part, while a lip lift will in most cases. I have very little tooth show when I speak and rest my mouth (when it's open and the bottom jaw is slack), so while I am hoping to not have to do a lip lift, I expect I will end up looking back into it after the rhino (or during, if I find a capable surgeon).

Just an update for the ladies interested in looking into this procedure--

I've been researching more, and the Sugar Land doctor seems very hit or miss... and when he misses, from former patient reviews, he doesn't seem interested in fixing his work. He also had board action taken against him in 2013. I have been looking more into this doctor, although it's all the way in Baltimore: http://www.realself.com/find/Marylan...ardo-Rodriguez . There's also a doctor in Belgium who specializations in facial feminization surgery and seems VERY good at lips lifts. (For just one procedure, you could likely send photos to him to consult, though he travels to LA and NY to do in-person consultations for trans patients.) This is his site: http://facialfeminization.eu/

So mid August you are doing an implant just on top? I'm so excited!! If you can get your lips big enough you may not care about a rhinoplasty, I have a bigger nose and it used to bother me but now that I have lips it doesn't, it's like there's something else big on my face that balances it out and makes it look more proportioned. From head-on and from profile too.

^That makes sense. I don't mind big noses and would probably leave mine alone if it was just more uniform. But the tip is out of proportion with the first two thirds, so I will probably end up going through with the rhino. I actually love Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's nose/lips:

I would say her nose is "big," but she's a case of the lips balancing it out, to me.

I am doing the top lip implant in just under three weeks though, so I will take pictures! *excited*
