Default "Normal job" better then dancing?

My big news is I have recently given a "normal job" a go, for the first time in 8 years!!! I have taken on a sales role, and so far have made a lot of sales. I don't want to jinx anything, but the money so far has been awesome. Working 3 days per week doing this job, I am making equivalent to what I would make in about 2 nights a week stripping. So the money is not quite as good as dancing, but amazing compared to a standard hourly rate job.
Ive taken a 6-12 month break from dancing to work on my health and wellbeing, I definitely don't want to quit forever! but now with this new job its making me think of the possibilities outside of stripping... I am grateful to be having the experience of a normal job, but no work has ever excited me as much as dancing in a strip club. I love it. I'll probably continue to do this day job for as long as I can, but in a few months I'll most likely return to dancing a couple nights a week. However, I don't want dancing to ever become my whole life again. I have been known to dance 5 nights a week in the past, and it burnt me out big time. What are other girls experiences with normal jobs? and were they satisfying enough to make you want to stop dancing for good?

It depends on the job, & just like we have nites at the club that have us doing this you will have them at any other job.

I am back in retail, bc I have injuries + a living situation keeping me from dancing. The sales skills I built ITC have been a tremendous help, & I am grateful for full-time benefits & a reliable paycheque, but ystrdy the whole work day was one big 'FK IT I'll be a stripper' moment.

It sounds like you are happy w/ this job & it's a good fit for you -- if so, embrace it & stick w/ it as long as it continues to be what you need. Sounds like you will also have the time to dance PT if you want to go back, & that's fine too! I would like to be able to dance a few nites a wk on top of my straight job & just put that $$$$ towards savings/taxes. It's an approach that I think lets you have the best of both worlds, enough variety to keep you sane & keeping the 'bad' of either side to a minimum.

Good luck w/ your new venture!

Congrats on landing and so far excelling at your new job! Sales is a pretty natural career choice for a lot of dancers, so it's not at all surprising that you're doing so well. Depending on what you're selling, in time, you may find it equivalent if not better than dancing, simply from an income perspective.

My vanilla career isn't in sales but I still find it hugely satisfying. I went to school for this field and I can leave my job at the office when I'm done. Theoretically you can do that with dancing, but I find that good regulars expect some maintenance OTC, even if just a text or email here and there. The hours are also great for enjoying a social life, though I do miss sleeping in!

Right now I dance sporadically (maybe twice a month) as a 100% not necessary supplement. I could totally get by without the money dancing provides me, but I wouldn't be able to experience as many luxuries (namely travel). This works well for me because I can just pop in and out of the club whenever I feel like it -- or, more honestly, whenever a good regular is feeling spendy!

I've been at this job for long enough that I'm at the point where I'm looking for my next move. I'm looking for a salary increase that'll be enough to cover how much I generally make now in total (salary + dancing on the side). This is totally possibly based on the jobs postings I've been coming across. Once I land my next job, I think that'll be it for dancing for me.

I'm looking forward to it because as much as I've enjoyed dancing and the income its provided, it's not as fun anymore and the money doesn't flow as easily as it used to. I'm not burnt out (going down to dancing twice a month, if that, has really helped -- especially now in the summer because I really want to enjoy the beautiful weather and the club is at its quietest anyway) but I AM ready to stop dancing for good. Honestly, if my salary was just a little bit higher, I think I would've stopped a couple of months ago. I'm hoping to be done by the end of the year, though our busy season is late fall through Christmas, so maybe literally right at the end of the year haha. Start 2016 fresh!

We have the same attitudes towards dancing!! Lol I as well dance on the side of a vanilla job, but once I earn at least what I make now (salary + dancing), it will be time for me to hang up the heels. This will be once I have experience, of course... So hopefully within a year or two. I have enjoyed my time dancing, and it has allowed me to save and have more disposable income, but the novelty has sort've worn out; it's not as fun as it used to be, but I love the money it brings. Who knows, maybe even when I make the combined income with my vanilla work, I'll still want to continue to dance because I'm such a money hungry bitch! Hahaha.

But it vanilla work CAN be rewarding and more profitable than dancing. Dancing is not the end-all-be-all to financial stability, and a lot of people get into this mindset. Yes, a lot of jobs start out low paying (like mine-- live able but def at an entry level wage) but you get more money with experience.... It just takes patience, which I lack, which is why I dance on the side! if you're enjoying your vanilla work, but aren't ready to quit dancing, I would suggest trying to do it on the side! You won't be DEPENDANT on the dancing income, and when it comes to quitting time, it's easier to phase out of it when you're only working 2-3 nights a week.

I work in sales too. It's STILL a lot like dancing . I don't have any plans to change anytime soon even though it can sometimes drives me crazy.

What type of Sales are you all in? I think i would like to look into a PT vanilla job. I don't have a lot of confidence in making the next step even though I would really like to! I am scared I will make the wrong choice and then be too old to go back to dancing to make up for it...

Watch out for backstabbers. I've noticed this can happen much faster in a regular job b/c some people are way more motivated to kill the competition. In other words, watch out for the struggling, loud, desperate and weak in day job scenarioes...

@Flickdreams I work in retail for a touristy entertainment company. Nothing the least bit glamourous, but I have worked for this same company off&on for the last 10yrs & notice a big difference in my attitude now vs working for them yrs ago pre-stripping -- currently more aggressive + confident as opposed to previously passive, mousy & basically 'meh'

Also +1 Snuffle. On top of the scenario you mention is the additional possibility of being blacklisted from other local companies if the fur gets flying at onés current vanilla job. SCs just don't give a shit abt references the way vanilla jobs do, which is much of what makes it so easy for a girl to club hop a bit if things are not going smoothly. Just keep your eyes & ears open & pick your battles, like in the SC. I just found it much easier to stay out of club politics than vanilla-workplace politics.

Statistically only the top 10% of earners in the US make over 100,000 per year (or something like that) so it is hard to match that dancer income and the flexibility associated with it.

You will most likely have to settle for starting roles making less than what you are used to but depending on your field you can eventually make the same $ as stripping. There are a lot of implicit benefits to vanilla jobs....for example unemployment benefits. If you get fired or laid off you can collect unemployment for almost 6 months depending on your work history....stripping or working for tips does not have that type of security.

I don't think my job is better than stripping at all (in fact I miss stripping) but it could set me up to one day earn as much as I did stripping and I could have day time working hours which is pretty sweet if you want to have kids one day.
