    Default Transferable skills from dancing

So ladies I've been searching on the forums and haven't found much. I may just be a bad searcher though, so please forgive me if there is info on this and link me up!!

In the next few months I will be applying for graduate jobs, all with commission/sales focuses. What are some transferable skills that I have acquired from dancing that I can weasel onto my resume and mention at interviews? My mind is a blank...I can only think of building rapports/relationships quickly, and closing sales?? Closing sales in a strip club is different to OTC though...right?

What are dancers skill sets? Are they literally just the same as sales roles, so i'd just google and copy them??

    Thank you in advance! xx

Acting! You need to be able to play the role for any job that you do,especially sales jobs and dancers definitely have to be able to act. Also communication skills! That is a big one too and we definitely have that. Other things I can think of are negotiating, problem solving, handling money, and having good persuasive skills.

As much as I DESPISE most human interaction … I find in-person sales to be much easier than trying to conduct a sale by email or over the phone. Bc of that -- & again, this is just me -- I think the answer to your question might depend partially on which kind of sales job you're looking at.

Rapport/connection-building, reading a customer's body language, feeling them out, works much the same OTC as ITC. In my current retail job, I am having a fair bit of success w/ closing sales & upselling. I still rely on tricks I learnt on my own as a dancer or read in HH & my bosses have made positive note of my progress.

OTOH, my vanilla office job 2yrs ago consisted of booking charter flights thru brokers, primarily via email & phone. I was at a bit of a loss bc I was w/o tones of voice, expressions, body language, & the benefit of real-time interaction to guide me in hammering-out the details to make a sale.

The difference between these two worlds -- in-person sales vs the more drawn-out process of doing it over phone/email -- I would liken it to playing a slow Scrabble game vs speed chess. Both require the same base skills of logic & thinking ahead, just as OTC vs ITC sales require the ability to connect w/ a customer, get into their head & find what they want & either give it to them or send them elsewhere. I just personally do much better when I have real-time, immediate feedback to help me guide the sale than when it requires hrs or days of very impersonal back&forth to either finalise or toss.

I think the jobs will be a mixture of on phone and in person, i would prefer in person too but i guess i can pick it up on the phone no worries.

the jobs are recruitment consultant or stockbroker so i guess everything written above is relevant... maybe besides saying i can act hehe, maybe i'll say socially versatile or something instead ;P

    Thanks guys for the prompts.

    -marketing
    -sales
-how to deal with difficult people
-knowing your "scripts" (this is very big in sales--knowing what to say and when to close the sale)

sales, anything with client interfacing...most people who have been in school to college to professional world are not as skilled at being people pleasers and kkowing how to build rapport as quickly as a good dancer.

I feel I still use some of my stripper skills in my work...specifically building rapport with men & women of all different ages and backgrounds...this is important in meeting new coworkers, bosses, talking to clients, interviewing for jobs, etc.

This is just a few I got off the top of my head. If you're looking for blurbs to put on your CV you could say that you're a:

    • Performance-driven professional seeking opportunities that will allow you to utilize your hands-on knowledge base to contribute and grow in a competitive environment.
    • Your professional experiences have equipped you with the determination and skills to set and achieve goals while consistently producing attractive work.
    • You are flexible, organized and can easily adapt to new conditions and environments.
    • You are a self-motivated, high-energy individual who is able to spark interest and take initiative in meeting new challenges.
    • You maintain an amicable and professional code of conduct when communicating with people.
    • You believe that your education and background has enabled you to conciliate your personal, professional, and creative skills in service of your goals, and that you believe it will serve the company's needs as well.
