Default What it takes to make it as a model!

Hats off to you ladies after only a week this is much tougher than I thought! I was Just wondering after the threads about things being slow and the marketing and hard work that is needed and obviously the stigma that surrounds this industry. We are all saying you see on the media about people making tonnes of money and loads start but I wonder how many do stick at this? I must say it's harder than I thought my mind set was that it would be tough to make the initial decision a bit fear of being caught and having the confidence to have a go. I suppose I was worried about how far I would be comfortable to go too. I thought onece you signed up there was tonnes of money easily earned! In reality that isn't the tough bit at all.

I was thinking I wonder in reality if the vast majority don't do research like coming on here and end up just get disheartened and end up packing in so maybe there is less chance that you think of it becoming saturated? Funny what runs through your mind at 6.30 when the delightful child decides not to sleep AGAIN!

A lot of people dream about being self employed but the reality is that you have to have a thick skin in order to do it. Money isn't guaranteed. You could cam for hours and make nothing. I'm self employed in my "vanilla" job as well. None of my friends want to be self employed after I tell them the realities of it. There is a lot of work that goes into it, and you get out of it what you put in... but even that's not guaranteed. Sure with a regular 9-5 job you could lose it any day and then be out of a job, I hear that argument a lot. However, being self employed you have to face that reality ever single day "Am I going to make enough?"I also find that being self-employed I literally never stop working, or at least thinking about work. Because I'm 100% in control of my business and in turn how much money I make it makes me feel guilty if I am not utilizing the time I have to work.

Very true that a lot of new hosts don't work more than a few weeks before giving up. Definitely not the type of work for everyone.

Most of the hosts you see making a lot of money have put in a lot of hours, hard work and promotion. It's not usually easy money as you have seen and it makes me angry when anyone implies that it is.

For me it has been worth it though! It takes time to build up business.

This why this forum is so good though with there being a certain stigma if you like it's really hard to get any advice. It's far from easy I see that already but having been self employed a long time selling myself seems easier than a product so I'm hoping if I read lots and keep trying I can make a decent living off it.

I am self employed this is all I do 12 years and going. when I got in I had no idea I would make money but I had the opportunity to put 100% of my time in it. and still doing it. and also expanding my entrepreneurship skills so I can stay self employed

The media out there has their own agenda they will say anything to get readers and some of them are "dumb" enough to believe what they see.

You have to come into this with faith . huge faith if you do not have a strong faith then your success will be difficult.

    BE SMART WITH YOUR EARNINGS.

Oh my God. I've been in this industry for over 5 years as a stripper, prostitute, pornographer, camgirl... and what amazes me constantly is how fucking stupid so many girls are with their money. It goes up their nose, in their wardrobe but never in their bank.
Remember this: Being self employed, in any industry, but esepcially the sex industry, means that there is no safety net. We get no sick pay and no redunancy. If you break a leg and can't work for 6 weeks then you need to know you can pay your bills and feed yourself.

Having a smart money plan means you can relax more on cam and not come across as desperate, but confident.

    Other skills:

    - time management. Just because you're self employed doesn't mean you can have lie ins every day and go out every weekend. You need to make your hours up, and work. Be hard working and manage your time effectively to get the most out of your work week.

Exactly beauvoir! Saving is key! Savings is key, you never know when life is going to throw you a whole lotta bullshit your way. Invest for the future. Start putting money into a 41k. Purchase stock. Hire a financial advisor. Get a good CPA. My degree is literally my back up plan now. Always have a back up plan.

Well, I for one believe what girls or performers do with their money is NONE of our biz. Most are young & spend money like they are young. Hell, why not have fun while you can. Many people bought homes, made investments & lost it all in 2008 & really have not recovered since then. Guess what, rather spent that money and have a blast to only lose it many years later to the banks who ripped everyone off.

Is it hard? Depends upon each person, have you ever had a straight up sales job before? Done phone sales as in cold call people at a phone center trying to selling them a product while they sit down to dinner? Sold vacuum cleaners from door to door? Whether or not a strictly paid upon sales job can be easy or hard depending upon your sales skills.

There is lots of money to be made, but it up to you to figure out the right hustle that fits your personality to bank. Did you have that game plan in place before camming?

Wash out rate is 80%. Only 20% stick with it, which probably is the same for any sales/commission only based job. Like those other jobs, it takes time to perfect the hustle & hours of work put into it. How many "how to do sales" books have you read? Do you have a clue about online marketing & how to build a brand on social media? Anybody with any kind of sales experience will tell you how important those things are in today's job market, no matter what kind of sales job it is. Want to be an actor, singer, comedian, then you also need a huge following on twitter, instagam, youtube for companies to want you these days. Camming or porn, those same things are important too.

I bank the most when there are lots & lots of girls on SM, when it drops down below 1300 my money drops. So I don't worry about flooding the market, especially since newbies don't have the sales skills I do, but bring in traffic just the same.

Cream always rises to the top. If you want to make butter, then you got to churn.

You might be cute, sexy or whatever, but do you have star power? Do you work on developing that star power? I am a fat 46 year old woman who makes heads turn, everyone star & men walk into walls when I enter a place. Doesn't matter what I wear or if I have make up on, it is my attitude & my emoting that I can turn on whenever I want. Every performer needs to know how to turn it on & get men to spend money they didn't want to just to have a bit more of her than she is offering in free chat.

Is your equipment good(i7 computer, fast internet, 920 or better web cam)? Do you spend 10 hours or more a week at online marketing? Is your cam room expensive looking? Do you have great lighting? In old Hollywood, first guy actresses fuck & kept happy was the lighting guy. How many followers do you have on twitter, instagram, youtube & all the others out there? Do you have videos to up sale? How many hours a week do you cam?

The highest money making cam girl pulls in $1 million a year, she spends about 12 hours a day on cam. I've seen snip its of her cam shows in stories about her, she is a hot tease on camera & very limber. I don't think she even uses toys at all. What are you doing to separate yourself from the crowd?

It all boils down to "Have YOU developed the skills & tools it takes to bank? Great sales people Always make money, but they are rare. Which is why I don't worry at all about the market flooding.

There are a lot of factors that go into being a successful model and the posts here on this thread are invaluable as well as the thousands of snippets of great wisdom you'll find in this forum.

I really love being a cammodel. I love almost everything about this career. I can be as creative as I want, be myself, and use the latest in technology to help me be the best I can be and I love learning about how I can keep improving. It completely consumes me as a passion because it's so fun. I love all the different kinds of men that I'm meeting, it is fascinating to know their desires, wants and needs and how to give them the relief and satisfaction they require. I love draining balls and wallets.

Always got to follow your passion. Bravo I see it all as a fun challenge to see what I can accomplish. Love being my own boss. Unlimited creativity is the only way to live. Working in a office or selling other people's products seems like HELL to me.

Cam stars are already replacing porn stars, soon we will replace tv stars too. Every time you turn on that camera, it is your show to run. No tv host has that kind of freedom. All I see is unlimited possibilities, not the negativity of this is hard, or to much competition. Hell, competition is what drives me to be better.

Everyday I can learn new skills that directly improve my income. Which is exciting to me.

Hyori is right, plenty of threads on this site to help newbies build success. Maybe they should do more reading before posting it is hard first. Even as a vet, I spent 2 months reading several hours daily before my first response to a post. About 6 to 9 months before even starting a new thread. Research is everything to me.

I love ur mindset Sam, u have experience, determination & skills, i admire you for ur work ethic, i wish to add that some of the models starting camming avenue are soo young this is their 1st 'job', it's just impossible for them to treat camming like u do for example (sales job, promoting & such), the way u do business comes from years of experience in adult industry, also let's not forget u a porn star, many cam girls dont even want to be porn stars or known as i stated in some of my posts here.

In case they want to have a life time career in the industry, YES, ur advice & input is very valuable, let's just not forget who we giving advice to, some of the girls starting camming are just out of school or pretty young, it takes time for them to develop all these skills.
I am few years younger than you but i dont want to be known as a cam performer, this is the way i choose to cam, in secret & i bet many are like me.

Your advice is amazing for the people looking for a life time career in the industry but not to everyone who is camming, the question we should ask the girls who approaches us here is "what do u want from ur camming career, where do u wanna go about it, what level of success u wanna reach? Then according to their answer we'll know what advice to offer.

Sometimes in order to get the right answer u need to ask the right question so Ask the right questions babes

This is soo inspiring to me cause i used to think i wont make money when SM was full of models (1700-1800+) due to having lower placement but what it happened lately for me is, i made good money when the site was full of models, i could not believe my eyes, i got good spenders in my room even i was placed on page two middle rows. I sat on page one when site was not that busy & made less money so it makes sense, the good spenders are on site when many good earning models are on site too,
Thank you for pointing this out Sam! Hugs

To answer in simple words the question of this thread: it takes a pc, camera, internet connection & u in front of the camera, that's all it takes.
To reach a level of success, in case u want it, well, then it takes a lot more, what people wrote above

Partially true. More girls on MORE traffic we all bring in at that time.

Do you want to go to a strip club as a customer with that has just 10 girls on a shift? How busy will it be? Or do you want to go to a club with 100 girls on a shift? More girls that are there more men want to go to it. Always give me the busiest club with the most hot girls. Cause the men go where all the hot girls will be at. Hotter all the girls are at that club, more men that show up. Thus great competition makes us all better performers to make that money & brings in more men to us.

More money you make per hour & more hours you have at earning more per hour ups your placement on SM. I won't slug it out when it is slow, I make videos then to up sell when on cam to increase my hourly rate even more so. Not to mention having content for my pay site & other vod sites to make money when not on cam. Those videos on the different sites I put them bring me even more traffic on CAM & fans who can't wait to take me private or exclusive. More traffic you directly build on social media greatly increases your earning on cam & with video sales. It all builds in an incredible way. More I cam, more members I get on my pay site & c4s account. Truly amazing, awesome & results in a short period of time.

More traffic each model develops on her own more converting traffic she brings to the cam site. Now, add that up with more and more performers. Thus more hot chics who do their own marketing & such, more custies we all get to convert into sales when camming. This is exactly why I want you all to build your brand, your social media, helps me make more money & you too. Hence, why I am always writing out this advice on this site no matter what level the girl is at or her goals.

This is why I am an all in kind of gal. New performers who got into this to make money. I simply spell out the way I know will work. Those skills I preach about cross over into many industries, we are headed into a social media driven advertising future. My skills I learn & perfect now with it, are my gold mine for the future.

Now, some of you want to say "I am a PORN STAR" and not just a cam girl. LOL Honey, it is ALL PORN. Don't care how you title it, it is all porn. We create sexually images & audio for people to jack off too. Call yourself a glamour model, a visual & audio fantasy specialist, a sexual aid, an entertainer of adult material, it is ALL PORN.

Brilliant, now i get it! You give advice to models to promote themselves so they bring even more traffic on the cam sites they work on so we all benefit from the traffic we bring on, the models benefit from the traffic u bring urself but u also wanna benefit from the traffic they bring, it all makes sense, it's about business & 'fair play' tactics; yes, when a member comes to a site he will join the model who bought him on site but some others too, so i get ur mindset completely, "i bring traffic on the site, u better bring some traffic too so we all benefit off it".
By the way, when i say porn star the word i wanna give importance to when talking about u is STAR! compared to some of us who just do porn on a cam site. You are a star! You are on top of the game
Much love & thank you, Hugs!

ETA: this is what i call CONTRIBUTION of an adult performer *STAR* given to people here, u share info & teach people how to reach success, this is the right attitude & true support, i Applause you for this Sam & look up to you for caring about others & urself success. Hats down!

"Elementary, my dear Watson". ") lol Now add that cammodel link in there with the marketing & get the extra 40% when who you sign up cams with you & the 20% when they cam with another performers. SM rewards us for all the hard work on social media marketing. Made $200 this week alone off of my cammodel link. It was 2 guys who spent $1000 on other models this week on SM. So I signed up through my link 2 good spenders.

WE all benefit when other performers bring in traffic rather than some dating site or free tubesite. We bring in better custies than those sites. I'd rather see the performers work on social media & bring in traffic than some dude who owns a tube site, dating sites, affiliates or white label who remains unknown to bank off of us. Thus giving us more power & ability to make money no matter where we cam or do with our content we make. This is brand building & $$$$.

Eventually, with hard work of camming & marketing the down times, the slow times will get less & less whenever you log on.

Not to threadjack but I agree with this and apply it to dancing as well! I spent literally MONTHS combing the SW archives and taking notes- yes just like school. Then I had to learn to APPLY knowledge and make that seem natural; then it was time to practice, fall down, get up, practice. Save and conserve income and reivest in my business.

There is no instant magic 'money immediately' tip in the adult industry; there are skillsets that we have a applied and learned. Most of us have been doing this for years.

OMG I hear you... I started cammin a week ago and im already aobsessed, on how to brand myself, how to things best, how many hours, what show to put up, toys lingerie, promotion, security, payments... etc etc etc, I dont stop, have trouble sleeping.. people talk to me and all im thinking is how to make more money on my business.. I hope to calm down when I get the ball rolling a little better...
