I have been camming going on 6 years now and I have only had two webcams so far. So yea I don't replace very often.

I had my first one for 2 years before I replaced it. The wire in the back kept shorting out and shutting off my webcam. I'm on my 2nd one now and I've had it close to a year.

I've just replaced my c920, only lasted 6 months. In 4 years, I'm now on webcam number 4.

Three total I've replaced. I squirted all over my cam and completely broke it. And the other two, the wire broke from moving it around and it bending too much. I purchased my cams at Office Depot, so I can get the 2 year warranty. I also have a back up in case one breaks, and I'm unable to purchase one immediately (learned my lesson the first time).
I don't bring any of my electronics into the bathroom for that reason. Condensation + electronics = bad
Honestly, you are not doing your hardware any good doing shower shows. For the sake of your hardware and in case of not shelling out the money for a new laptop, I'd stop. Yeah people are into them, but if I'm not making $600 for each shower to compensate a potential broken computer instead saving that money... nope. It's not worth it to me.

In 5 years of camming I changed 2 webcams. Had my frist Logitech pro9000 and changed it after 2 years and a half with a C920 because of quality requirements.
Now I want to improve the quality and I plan to buy a camcorder.
So I guess I change it at every 3 years ...Depends by quality requirements. I don't do shower shows or plug/unplug webcam frequently/ have cats to chew the wires and so on to need to change it for theese reasons hahaha)))

I have a logitech c920 .About 2 every year.Logitech have very good warranties. So i just make them send me replacements when they go out.

Well In 13 yrs I had 3 Logitech 9000's which most I gave away.. then a camcorder that was no good and now I have 2 webcams for the last few years.. but I used my camcorder for like 7 yrs.

I've had two so far. My first lasted a year and a half (logitech 9000 for business) but I kept having audio problems with it. I purchased a C920 and have been using it since. WAAAAAY better picture quality for clips. my 9000 turned out to only need a software update, but I've stuck with the 920 because I do so many clips. I WISH someone would make a better webcam. Logitech rarely comes out with new ones. :/

I'm on my second C920 right now. The first one died after about a year due to coconut oil damage. It managed to dissolve the glue holding on the glass plate on the front. I got tired of trying to keep it on and clean everything (it's really freaking hard to clean the inside once you get even a tiny bit of oil in there. SMEARS FOREVER). Also, the built-in mic started having issues around that time, though I'm not sure if it's related. I've been WAY more careful about how I handle my new one and it's been going strong for almost two years now.
I actually replace mics fairly often though. The cheap ones seem to crap out around the one year mark for some reason, even though they literally just sit on a shelf. I finally bit the bullet and got a Blue Yeti so I'm hoping it lasts a while!

It sounds like the cables in to cord got damage. It could be the cam, or your usb port. If you have another port or computer, test it out on that to help locating the exact issue. Honestly, you might want to get a new cam. An cam of mine used to do the same, turned out to be the cable after trouble shooting further.
