They should have the company name if you supplied your tax info and pay stubs.

What Audri said!! If you don't feel comfortable saying "cammodel" just say you do risque modeling and market your product via media (therefore you weren't technically lying to them about media sales) and you don't feel comfortable with them having access to your personal files. Like Audri said, they have a company name and your tax info...they shouldn't legally need anything more than that.

It honestly sounds like someone googled the company name and saw that it's a camsite and is trying to pry more information. I recently purchased a new car, when they asked me my job I said I work in the adult entertainment industry.

Is there any way you can tell them it's private, confidential client information and you are not comfortable sharing any details? That's what I tell my neighbours etc when they get nosey and ask about my work. There are lots of jobs where customer/client confidentiality is required... I have worked numerous jobs like this in the past. Just because they want to know does not mean that you have to. You've provided proof of earnings. If you were a consultant for makeup, banking, designer etc would they expect you to provide a list of clients that come see you? No.

If they want proof and refuse to view your tax info as proof, most apartments will allow you to provide bank statements as "proof of income". If that fails, ask for a copy of the lease agreement. Only provide what they specifically ask for on the lease & nothing more. If they don't spell out in the lease that private contractors must not only prove income via tax info, but specifically provide detailed accounts of their various sources of income, you may want to contact a lawyer. If they are asking you for info that they don't normally ask for regarding independent contractors and you qualify for the apartment, they are being nosy and potentially discriminatory.

You're going to have to tell them flat out that you are an independent contractor. There is no website that employs you.

Ask them what info they would normally ask for from an employer, provide it, reiterate that you are self employed. Then if they don't drop it I would take the advice from caramelcraze and get a lawyer. Or better yet, find a different apartment.

If it helps at all, back when I was an unemployed, single, almost homeless teen a few flats accepted me despite being a kid on welfare because I paid several months in advance. If you can do that, it may save you hassle.

Otherwise, what everyone's saying, it's none of their business, explain it's in the adult industry, in sales, and confidential, your company doesn't want to share details with anyone and that's final.
I don't mind talking so much as being spoken to. And I don't mind being spoken to all that much, when the one speaking has a brain.

I literally told them by law I do not have to give you that information if I supplied you with my w2 I have an accountant that has all of my paperwork regarding my business. I also told them I am a self employed contractor so I freelance with many different companies not just one company pays me. I got my truck financed LOL! I think some people just want to be nosy.

id suggest applying for another apartment cause you may have issues with them showing up unannouced or other problems down the road since they wanna know the specifics of the job. I had a bad experience with a nosy ass landlord. paystubs, tax files and bank statements should be enough. my apartment complex i live at now only asked for 2 paystubs. Prior to getting an apartment, i rented a room off of craigslist. The landlord seemed cool, and i only needed the room for a couple weeks before moving into my place. He didn't ask for a printout of my work info, he seemed very laid back at the showing. He just talked about himself, his family, and other tentants that have lived at his place. Maybe he was so chill cause i only needed the place for 3 weeks but he "turned" out to be such a nosy ass! i didn't expect him to ask me all the shit that he did. I told him i do web design/ graphics. After i moved in he would wanna talk for hours and hours about stupid shit and he asked me questions like what programs do i use for work, how do i get payed, he even asked for me to help him with his OWN work assignments! He works at home doing "web design" too. I know he asked this shit just cause he was being nosy and it had nothing to do with him really needing help.
I had music on one day when i was camming, and he knocked on the door and rants about his tough day then says "are you really working these long hours or are you just goofing around cause i don't work with playing music". Im thinking like wtf does that have to do with anything? Some people work while listening to music. He asked me this question cause when i opened up the door he heard music playing. He couldn't hear my voice camming from the concrete walls though. I couldn't comprehend anything he said over the phone, his office was right next to my room.
    Back to the point though,
I've always avoided his questions by saying something very vague about the work i do, if he'd ask me "do you use ______ program" i'd say yes just to get him to fuck off, or id tell him i had to go. It was pure HELL living with him. But now i know to be totally prepared in the future for these nosy ass people.

If they want to see a site, simply tell them you work with/ build adult sites and you respect the clients confidentiality because you work under confindetial contract, of course.
It's illegal to provide confidential info. You already gave a company name.
Also if they refuse to give you the apartament and insist, you tell that you sue them for illegal info request outside the info you already provided for the contract.

Did you mean 1099 though? W2 is for employees.

or were you working as an employee somewhere too in addition to camming?

They are just being extremely invasive. they do not need a website. They are just basically looking at your young and trying to add up in their heads where your money is coming from home.

There are plenty of other companies out there you can give them saying you work for them but at the end of the day you are self employed and you have many clients and you have signed a non -disclosure agreement with these companies. which would entail you are not allow to tell anyone who you are working for.

I wouldn't give them any website at all it's none of their business if your rent deposit, and tax info is not enough for them then you might need to consider another place to live. because if they are going to intimidate you now they will do it the whole time you are a tenant.

and you do not want to tell them anything about adult entertainment they are clearly already noisy and that could used against you.

You signed a non disclousure agreement and if they keep digging around they get a lawyer or find another place to live.

Get busy looking at other places. They need good steady rental income rather than being nosy. Find a place that has many apartments in the place, thus to busy to be so nosy. Let them know you have competition for your money. Never put all your eggs in one basket.

Try one of those apartment finders, let an agent do all the work for you. It is no money out of your pocket, they get paid half of the first month rent by the place that you sign a lease with. The agent does all the deals with the places & may get you a better price on the lease. I would never hunt for a place on my own, I let someone else do all the research with my list of what I want & the rent I will pay. Sometimes it is good to have a middleman to do all the work & negotiations.

    Sam
