    Default Gum surgery

I was wondering if anyone has had this? I was told I needed the graft or that super deep cleaning years ago and just neglected t do it. now I see my gums are bad. It runs in my family. I was interested to know if anyone knows anything about the new laser surgery they do? I know too many people who did the graft and said it didn't work. I don't have teeth issues just gums but a few days ago i noticed one of my teeth hurt when I bit down on food.. I use to go every 4 months but they kept pushing that deep cleaning on me for 4000 so I haven't been in about 4 years and I'n nervous what is going on. Any advise, experiences appreciated. Thanks.

    Gum graft OR deep cleaning?

I had inflamed, bloody gums for my whole life until I got a deep cleaning and my gums have been great ever since, but my deep cleaning was $1200 total(full price, no insurance, no discount) and I'm in SoCal so I'm not in a cheap area and I went to a top dentist. $4000 damn.

Your tooth hurting when you bite down could be anything, like a cavity. Is it a normal tooth or a tooth with a crown or filling or anything?

ETA I've also heard multiple times that one of the things that can cause gum bleeding is regularly mouth breathing and I definitely used to do that all the time, I've trained myself to be a nose breather now so that may have helped me too.

No this was 4 years ago it was 1500 per section or some crap like that. Ir was like 4000. I can't remember but was ridiculous amount. I'm going wednesday. so I'll know more. They have a laser surgery now that sounds good but I saw someone said they were quoted 6000. I did call another place after I made this post and she said I may still be able to just get away with the deep cleaning. I'm not too sure of that as you can see a few of my teeth to the root.. How bad were your's Genoveve? Oh cool thing is if this place gives me some outrageous price the other place does Botox and fillers

I couldn't see mine to the root but I'm positive that I eventually would have if I let it keep going. Do you think you already have full-on periodontal disease and that that's why the deep cleaning was so expensive? Because you'd be getting a deep, deep cleaning that's like specifically for people with periodontal disease or something?

Let me know what you find out about the lasers, I apparently have an infected tooth and I've read that an alternative to a root canal is to zap the nerve with some sort of laser to encourage it to heal itself and I'd much rather do that then the canal.

^ Ok I will. I go on wednesday. I really hope I don't need a graft. I was just talking to my gf about that and I don't want that.

Tempest, sis they use the skin from the roof of your mouth? seems I'm getting conflicting info on the laser. I think I'm going to have to get the graft as my pockets are deep. I was looking on some dentists site and he uses collagen or alloderm instead of roof of mouth. What's a ballpark price and how is recovery? Liquids for 2 days and soft crap for 2 weeks. I'm going to die. I'll be 90 pounds.

^ I saw your post in confessions but didn't want to threadjack there!

This is just based off of my experience, but they used tissue from the roof of my mouth and attached that to my gums. The periodontist had grafting tissue (I think it was porcine tissue... but maybe I'm pulling that out of my ass?) on hand, but at our consultation she said she thought that it was more "cosmetic", and didn't recommend it for moderate to severe gum recession.

My grafting didn't stick unfortunately and my gums are back to being where they were before, but they put a permanent retainer in my mouth so my teeth wouldn't wiggle and cause further recession and the dentist and periodontist were both satisfied with that solution and didn't think another graft is necessary.

Keep us updated and I hope everything goes smoothly for you!

^ My sisters graft didn't stick either. OK, I went. The assistant took about 17 x-rays. Then the dentist came in. I liked his vibe( he asked what I did) I said" entertainer" and he rolled over and said oh you play guitar and played air guitar. Any ways. He says I have very strong teeth. My old filings look good and no bones loss. He wants me to get a rally extensive cleaning since it's been 4 years( embarrassing since I use to go 3 times a year). And do another a month later and see and access me then? Ok. He says my pockets aren't that bad but that's what the last place told me. We didn't talk about surgery. He's also not a periodontist but I saw his laser things on the wall. he's been certified in that in 2012. Not long. Will see. Maybe I should of went to a periodontist. He may just refer me out to one? Will see after the cleaning. Though they've been this way a long time so I don't think that's going to miraculously do any thing. I did buy this certain mouth wash I use and it helps and tea tree oil again. I was rubbing that n my gums 3 times a day until I lost it and it seemed to improve and coconut oil( heard good things about it). I was going to buy this stuff( can't remember the name) I read about online. People said it saved them from having surgery. Then some reviews said it was crap. I can always try that later. I'll update when all this is done and see what he has to say.
