I've never danced in NOLA but I've been there several dozen times this year. I typically stay in the french quarter (where the clubs are) and I've walked around at alone at night and never felt threatened. If you have family and friends there then why not? Can they give you a ride back home after your shift?

I think it's as dangerous as any big city. I've never danced there, but as long as you take the safety precautions you would in any big city, you should-statistically- be ok.

Yeah, this is something I've been worried about too. I want to go to New Orleans sometime between January and March (get out of the northeast for the winter) but I don't know anyone there so I'd be super concerned about safety.

DO NOT walk around in the FQ alone at night. I personally carry a tazer. Other than the FQ, it's typically fine.

I wouldn't walk around alone at night in New Orleans, but I wouldn't in Houston either. Know where you're going and keep your wits about you, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

No offense to NOLA but living there is dangerous for some, period. My friend "Will" got mugged just because he was working for a um, independently wealthy guy. If Wealthy Guy had not had a grand to give the robber they both would have been shotgunned. Watch your step there.

I went there about 2 years ago to work & stayed in a hostel right off canal & I got scared everytime i hopped the train to go to Bourbon to work at night. I left the club around 3-4 am with lots of cash in my purse & creepy bums staring me down like wolves ready to attack me. I was all alone too which was even scarier. I'd go with other ppl if I were you or at least be vERY street smart.

... What? First of all, the hostel I THINK you are talking about is India House, because that's the only one close to the streetcar. That's a shitty neighbourhood to begin with. Mid-City is very patchy. Secondly, why were you not getting walked to a CAB by your doormen? I have worked here off and on for three years, and I have never, EVER had "creepy bums staring me down like wolves", not on Bourbon Street. It sounds like you're hypersensitive and didn't take very good precautions. Since I got my little taser I never feel threatened, and I also take walks to my cab from the door guys.

I don't feel safe there. I had a few sketchy incidents there when I was there working. But would I go back? Yes! Take the advice on here. Be careful with strangers you meet, dark areas at night, etc. And you should be okay. I'm not that crazy over working there I think because it's a slower pace than what I'm used to. But many like it there. And there's money to be made there. Good luck!

Umm bc I had no choice bUT to stay ay India house due to being on a limited budget. I'm not hypersensitive as I've lived in shittier & far more dangerous areas than that & have walked alone. Secondly, bc there weren't any doormen walking anyone out where I worked at the time. And don't speak down to me like a child, I don't appreciate your condescending disposition one fucking bit, thanks.

I don't think I would have been able to overcome my fear if i were you gothbarbie! If I saw creepy dudes at night I'd be scared as f*ck and power walking out of there! But definitely taking precautions like vackra suggests is wise. It doesnt seem safe to walk alone at night cause that's when predators are most likely to see an opportunity. If you have to walk alone for some reason, carry a weapon and or brush up on self defense. Otherwise it a woman naively walks alone at night with no fight skills and no weapons, that's the quickest way to end up a statistic on the 5 o'clock news!

All I'm saying is, there's no reason to clutch one's pearls about it. I've never heard of a club not offering walks in the FQ. At a few clubs it's mandatory, and all of them I worked you have the option to ask.

I carry my knife with me. My only regret is I don't have my machete or alligator.

I work and live in the French Quarter and have never felt particularly threatened while walking around at night or home from work, but I carry a ka-bar around with me and get walked to a cab (or in some cases to my house) by doormen/security. Just be smart about it. There's absolutely no reason to talk to anyone that approaches you on or around Bourbon from 1-6am.

Speaking of which, which club would you recommend to me on Bourbon?I am thinking going to she shes, cause down the street from my house, and its a black club. But people are buzzing in my ear that I should give bourbon a try.Or work in a white club.
