Hello everyone,
I am 18-years-old years old and I have been preparing to become a dancer for a few months now. I called my local club to ask about the audition process and was put on the phone with the manager. Immediately, he asks me how old I am because I "sound young". When I tell him I am 18, he let's out a long "uhhhhh" and says while I can dance at 18, they will only hire dancers who are 21+. I mentioned to him that when I called the club two months ago, I was told that being 18 was fine. He then said that they recently decided they will no longer be hiring 18-year-olds because of an incident that happened at the club a few days ago. I asked if this could change in the future and he said "of course, but right now we are only hiring 21+ dancers." As I was about to press the issue, he said he had another customer calling and hung up.
Call me cynical, but I have a feeling he is only telling me this because I "sound young" and therefore he might think I am underaged, or prank calling, or whatever else the case may be. What would you guys do? Is it worth going to the club in person and exploring the issue further? I am fairly confident that if he saw me in person and spoke with me for five minutes, he would consider giving me a chance. I just find it odd that a club would collectively decide over the course of a few days that they will no longer hire 18-year-olds because of one dancer. I've already worked as a dancer (not an exotic dancer), so I know from experience that not all club managers are equal, and many will lie to avoid dealing with you.
Am I getting the runaround, or do you think he is being honest?
