I pick & choose who I tell. Other than dancing I sell sex toys so that alone gets people's opinions about me all crazy. I've learned that opinions don't pay my bills!! If someone wants to look down on me for making extra money, very easily, cool. Fuck off. I have a super no bullshit attitude so if you don't like me, you don't like me. I think a lot of the judgement comes with how you present yourself outside of the club. I am very professional with my other business and in my everyday life so when I tell people I'm a dancer too they are shocked! I think I've helped change some people's mind about "strippers". I can usually read people right off the bat & can determine if they'll be judgemental about it or not. Just remember.. Opinions don't pay your bills either!

I have really been struggling with this once since I started dancing a few years ago... At first I was more open about it with some people I thought I could trust, and learned that was an awful idea; I stopped telling anyone and then the only one that knew was my financial advisor because he was in charge of building my wealth and managing my money for me. He was fine with me dancing as we had a 5 yr. plan set up and he knows 90% of the time I am very smart with my money.

But currently I still LOVE dancing, even though I'm trying to retire from it completely into real estate (NYC mecca); but I know it's going to be another year before I feel solid in the career change and during the "transitional" period of "having no said income" is really difficult because if I ever tell anyone, they don't take you seriously as a person. they don't treat you with respect. they don't think you're smart or know what you're doing or have an education.
There are so many ridiculous bad stigmas and stereotypes out there it doesn't matter HOW together your life is, people will hear and believe what THEY want to!

It frustrates me to no end. Especially since I am dating and really trying to find the love of my life someday, and that doesn't seem like it's going to happen while I am dancing, as 9 out of 10 times if I try and be honest with someone about everything... they just think I'm a liar. God it pisses me off.

I used to train horses, so I still use that as a kind of cover - but it results in a lot of people not-so-subtly trying to get a free ride on a horse. Still, it explains my relatively open schedule and varying income, so it works pretty well. I occasionally use bartending too, but I don't know enough about it to lie convincingly if people ask more questions.

My absolute biggest fear is that if I tell someone I'm a dancer, I'll piss them off later, and then they'll go tell my family/friends from home that I dance. I wouldn't mind telling people in my day to day life, but I come from a very religious, conservative community, and I'm sure my whole family would disown me if they found out.
The whole world steps aside for the one who knows where she's going.

Yup. I'm very "out", the only people that don't know are my oldschool Catholic in-laws but they live in another country so that's ok. My husband tells them I bartend. I am not ashamed of what I do and talk about it very matter of factly. It's never been a problem for me.
