I was doing pole class for about 6 months before I started dancing. It helped me a lot, because I'd never been even vaguely athletic in my life. But yeah, I don't use most of my pole skills for dancing. And my instructor is a stripper. It's an interesting line to walk, being professional (so never mentioning that you dance for a living) to the beginners, while making sure to shut down any whorephobia that goes on.

Obviously I can pretty much run in mine which led me to basically explain that I wear these shoes for a living .. I mean , bitches , please , WHAT IS THE POINT of buying the 8 inch rhinestoned pleasers that cost £150 if you can't even walk in them? Then they look down on me ! At least I'm not delusional enough to spend that kind of money on a the fantasy of being sexy .
That's hilarious to me, especially since I (like many dancers I know) like NEVER take off our shoes unless we're getting ready to leave work. Even during double shifts. My pleasers are way more comfy than other shoes I have, actually.

This reminds me of when one of the pole students kept talking about always wearing heels and how much adamant she was about how much she's used to it, but I don't think she was talking about stripper shoes and pleasers are a lot more comfortable than civilian heels any day imo. I don't wear mine outside of work though, either.

That's exactly how Black people feel to have our entire culture appropriated for 50 years for edginess but are systematically singled out when it's time to get paid/get ownership. So Welcome to America! This whole country is built on appropriating then pretending they don't know where they got it or pretending THEY made all that swagger up! Twerking has become incredibly popular yet racism is still rampant in club hiring. White dancers cop all the pole tricks like these and get rained on while these girls are deemed beneath white club standards:

^^Yes, if you look at the big picture of how the world is and the stripping world. I don't feel like it's nearly at the same level of appropriation, however, but the frustration that others are expressing is more of a "taste" of what some in the Black community feel.

Speaking of this I saw on instagram just a couple days ago that Madonna did the surfboard trick on her tour.
The woman who choreographed Madonna's pole dancing is called Mona Marie I've never heard of her (suppose it's possible she worked in clubs at one point?) and there are some black dancers doing the pole choreo as well but still that's one of the moves that definitely came from urban clubs (not sure who did it first, Spyda & Magic claim to have invented it though) and I doubt any of that trick's creators (whoever they are) are on that stage with Madonna or getting any credit. I don't know why the Madonna team went for such a signature move when there are thousands of pole moves to chose from that have been around forever in different variations and not tied to urban clubs.

    Also on the subject:

Alexander Wang had pole dancers at his strip club themed after party but I think the majority of the dancers there were not strippers. One of them expressed relief that a magazine referred to them as pole dancers and not strippers, now when I'm trying to find that comment it seems she removed it maybe a stripper told her to shut up.
It's been said that Wang wanted to recreate KOD, quoting nytimes "Pier 94 in Manhattan was transformed to resemble Miami’s gargantuan King of Diamonds gentlemen’s club: as music from Jay-Z and the Diplomats thundered, six dancers in skimpy outfits quivered on platforms and spun from poles." http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/201...lide-9G0H.html Ok if Wang wanted to recreate KOD then he really should have brought some dancers who actually have worked there not pole dancers from a studio who suffer from stripperphobia.
