I love primers! Have yet to try the Dermalogica one though so maybe I’ll grab it! Usually go with smashbox oil control (awesome for long wear, but will cause accentuated texture), Catrice Keep me Matt (great price, creamier, and texture blurring, but not as long lasting as the smashbox so I usually mix the two), or Touch in Sol Icy Sherbet (all time favorite! Makes your skin sooooo soft, matte, and doesn’t dry your skin out or accentuate texture).

tinted moisturizers scare me sh*tless. My skin isn’t bad at all, but I’m super scared of becoming an oil slick even faster than usual. Do matte tinted moisturizers even exist? Like that I could get behind!

^ The one I use is Laura Mercier Oil-Free. I prefer a dewy look over matte anyway so it works quite well for me but I definitely get too shiny too soon, LOL. I blot my face through the day with these little blotting papers from Muji.

So, found this sanitizer, at Walgreens awhile ago on clearance:

Raw Sugar, non drying, no sulfate, vegan, plant-derived ingredients, etc. Lemon Coconut.
They also carry hair products, hand/body soap, deo, etc.
They have a site but sell only in Target, Kohl's, Walgreens, Meijer & a few others.

Their prices are low, I love their sanitizer the best, just passing this along!

Skincare can only take us so far, of course, and it doesn't seem like natural aging that's noticeable would happen so quickly unless there's something else at play there. My experience is also that i can start to hyperfocus on my skin, causing me to notice stuff that was probably there before.

And also start gently patting tretinoin or similar around the eyes at bedtime! It's a myth that you can't use it around the eyes. Just start slowly and go from there. I usually just apply tretinoin to the rest of my face and then lightly tap the extra product around my eyes, finishing with an eye cream. Eye creams aren't necessary, technically, but i like using them.
Thankyou - yes it definitely seems more accelerated. I am almost certain I'm in perimenopause and think it could be related. The hollowing under my eyes has got much worse and that could be due to lack of estrogen causing fat loss there. I have an appointment with a specialist booked for October so really hope I can get some help with things.

My skin doesn't like retinoids but I've been using vitamin C serums for a while and like them - I've tried a few brands and forms and am actually buying a new combo today as I want to treat myself after a few months of being frugal with skincare.

Skinceuticals is good but a bit strong for me, and because I cut down to using it every 3rd day or so it meant the product was getting discoloured long before I could finish it...and it's too expensive!

I want to try a more stable form of vitamin C as I'm wondering if I may actually get more of the benefits that way (although I know L-ascorbic is meant to be most potent there are decent studies on some other forms and their benefits too).

My plan is to mix Paulas Choice Antioxidant serum with The Ordinary Ferulic and maybe add in a bit of The Ordinary L-ascorbic powder later on if I don't have any irritation...I have even ordered ph strips to test my concoctions. It'll be interesting.

I also enjoy the skincare ramblings, Charlie!

^I'm glad!! Packaging is a big deal with vitamin c...i don't like droppers, where you can see the product oxidizing over time.

I have my eye on this vitamin C product from Revision. I like that it's in air-tight packaging, and the ingredients look great. But it is very pricey. I have a 15-20% off code for Revision, but even then, this is really expensive.

    https://www.lovelyskin.com/o/revisio...ing-complex-30

Paula's Choice has this option if you're looking for a big boost (i own this but haven't started using it). I've never tried higher C concentrations, so I'm not sure how my skin will handle it. This is only .5 oz... very expensive for PC. Always buy PC on sale, 15-20% - they always have coupon codes.

    https://www.paulaschoice.com/c25-super-booster/785.html

And this product gets a huge thumbs up from a lot of skincare junkies... it's affordable, potent, and has good packaging. I think they sell it at Target.

Oh Revision looks good...shit, I'm probably going to end up trying their stuff at some point now. Its pricey!

Those other 2 products look great and reasonably priced but I don't think my skin can handle more than about 15% vitamin C.

Yeah, with a lot of this stuff, it's hard to tell if it works or not, because it's mostly powerful for prevention... reversing the natural aging process is tough, especially since we're actively aging every day! There are really only a handful of proven ingredients out there, so if you're on a budget, stick to what's been studied: tretinoin, vitamin c, etc. No need to spend a fortune.

I really liked the Revision neck cream and would buy it again, but it's hard for me to report on results, as I'm mostly focused on prevention, and i also use Nuface, etc. I'm using a neck cream by Neostrata right now that's nice. Hard for me to remember the neck in my routine.

idk if this will be helpful, but I had some dark spot scarring from razor burn along my bikini line & used vitamin c serum on them. It faded the spots noticeably.

I'd probably try an acid to slough the skin off and encourage cellular turnover. Paula's Choice makes a glycolic acid lotion for the body, i think. And yeah, other skin lighteners could help... though I'd be very careful applying those so close to intimate areas. Could be irritating or throw off your pH balance...

This has glycolic and vitamin c:

This company's 2% hydroquinone AHA cream works really well but I don't see it actually for sale anywhere currently. I'm sure the BHA works just as good, when I need to buy more I'll try it.

Nice. Your post reminded me of alpha arbutin, which is a hydroquinone derivative that may be a good alternative for anyone who's concerned about using actual hydroquinone.

^ I might try vitamin C serum & see how I like it otherwise I may just buy a cream off amazon. I want something tough that will lighten it up within days.

Anyone have a matte pressed powder suggestion? Something that comes in a compact. I'm medium tan if that helps at all. Want to use it on top of a full face of makeup to touch up breakthrough oil.

I know this is a cheapie but the FitMe! pressed compact by Maybelline is very fine & light.

Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is old news in the beauty world, but I recently bought some in addition to the Cheriosa '71 body spray and I've gotten so many compliments. I went to donate some old clothing at a Salvation Army truck and the truck attendant was freaking out telling me how amazing I smelled. The lotion smells like pistachios, salted caramel and vanilla, and the body spray kind of reminds me of popcorn on first spray but then it fades into a beautiful white chocolate macadamia cookie scent. Supposedly the lotion is firms your bum -- can't attest to that (yet) -- and I honestly think the only thing that can really firm your butt are exercise and surgeons but that's beside the point. This stuff makes you smell like a literal snack.

^agreed! It's definitely not for everyone though. Worth a sniff before anyone purchases it, since it's pricey! I bought a tub of the cream blindly, and it's waaaay too heavily scented for my preferences, and my partner asked, "did you just spray yourself with vanilla?" Not good. Just not my thing, but lots of people looove it!

My top favourite for years has been Rimmel London Stay Matte. It's cheap as fuck but it's been the only one who doesn't look bad when doing touch ups. It's more than 7 years since I have been using it, over and over again ))) The only one I am buying )))
Also, try to use some oil blotting paper before applying the powder, for an even more fresh effect.

I'm on the hunt for serious, anti aging skin care, I'm considering Dr Lara Devan, she's a top NY plastic surgeon.
    She's also on Sephora.

I'm tired of a lot of advertised shit, but the good stuff's expensive!
But how do you know it's good, other than reviews which can be fake.

Also, I'm looking at antiaging foundations
