    Default Blazers for big boobs?

I'm working at a moderately conservative office right now and am trying to build my office wardrobe up-- I have an easy time finding pants and tops and skirts (dresses are a whole other nightmare I won't even get into) but for the life of me I can't find a blazer to wear to work.

I'm a 4/6UK (0/2 US) right now and measure at a 30F. Beyond the problem of not being able to find anything that fits me in the shoulders/arms/waist and can also fit across my boobs, I feel like blazers either fall off my boobs and hang by my arm pits, or they just look incredibly unflattering.

For those of you who are large-chested and small everywhere else, way styles of blazers look the best? Stretchy fabric, not stretchy? Lapels or no lapels, one button or two? I know the solution is probably having to get a tailored made one but I don't have the £ for it right now.

Can you buy good quality on sale and then have them tailor?

Do you have to wear a blazer to cover up? Why not a cute shawl or sweater-like cover up. There are many styles, sleeve lengths, etc. plus they are flexible and just as dressy. Kimonos are hot too. I recently bought a lace kimono style cover and love it.

One of my fav stores for business attire is the Limited as they have quality materials for pretty decent price. Maybe try a well known department store. And worst case scenario, just wear the blazer open without buttoning / zipping it close.

Buy a bigger size, make sure the bust area fits and get the rest of it tailored. It doesn't have to be a custom-made blazer, a moderately-priced but well-tailored blazer can look better than a $1500 suit. I read a tons about formal wear over the summer when shopping for my first professional suit and tailoring is a must, especially for petite women. It's very difficult to find a blazer that will fit perfectly off the rack, I am a size 0-2 and 32DD, even without my breast implants, the sleeves are too long, or there's too much room in the back.

Banana Republic, Massimo Dutti, Ann Taylor, Marciano, BCBG are okay for the price.

I read about men suits as well, and the difference between a man who looks like a million bucks in a suit and one who looks totally awkward is all about tailoring. It's a must.

And yes, agreed with miss.a.p, if you don't want to spend too much on tailoring, get a blazer that looks good open. The sales lady who helped me at Holt Renfrew told me to not worry so much about what it looks like closed because I will be wearing it open most of the time, although I ended up getting the blazer tailored.

I honestly never wear them closed, most of mine wouldn't even button if I wanted them to! lol. I'm not too worried about that since like you said it's pretty usual to be sitting in a meeting with your jacket buttoned up.

It has to be a blazer, yeah-- if I'm just at the office I could get away with wearing a sweater, but if I have to leave or clients are coming in I can't be that casual. I wish I could wear something like a kimono!

The thing that worries me about tailoring a larger blazer is the shoulders. I have narrow shoulders and I struggle with that with jackets to begin with, can they really take in shoulders of a jacket? Sizing aside though, I haven't been able to find any styles that actually look flattering on me.

You are going to need to find a good tailor, no ifs and or buts about it. The only other option would be to order from a clothing line made for busty women. I know of a couple but I think they only do blouses and shirts, I'll double check though.

When you purchase a blazer for alteration you absolutely must make sure it fits you in the shoulder as this is the most difficult place to alter the fit. The shoulder seam should be either flush with the top of your arm or possibly hang over by a 1/2" max if you are very toned in that area. It should also fit you in the largest part of your body, in your case the bust. Clothing is graded up and down according to bust/waist/hip circumference in equal increments from a standard figure and the cup size is never altered from a b/c cup, this is why it is next to impossible to buy tailored pieces off the rack for busty girls. One style option that you may want to look at is a deeper neckline cut that goes to the waist. I find it works well for tall girls with a smaller lower half that can carry the longer style, and it's the only type of blazer that I have ever bought that works for my body (I'm a 34F).

    http://www.bravissimo.com/pepperberr...coats/jackets/

Bravissimo/Pepperberry is a lingerie and clothing brand that specialises in stuff for women with big boobs.
Some of the stuff is a bit 'mumsy' but there are a few nice things, and you can style them to look younger and more fashionable.

^i actually really like some of those (the checked one is super cute) but they don't have anything smaller than an 8? I hate that. Usually blazers in an 8 are too big in the shoulders for me.

It sounds like you are very petite and you may want to look into finding a good seamstress that you like to make you custom blazers--then you can choose the fabric and style and have it made for your measurements. A good seamstress would probably charge $300-500+ depending on the style and their experience level/finishing techniques (no need to go couture!) plus the cost of the fabric, maybe more for the first one because drafting and fitting blazer patterns are one of the most complex jobs there is in fashion design, but if you find someone you like, you can have them make your whole wardrobe, and it may even be cheaper and more efficient in the long run. Look for someone who is ideally professionally trained at a post secondary program (though older tailors and seamstresses often learned on the job or apprenticed), and has at least 2-3 years experience in custom tailored women's garments. Make sure they have experience making jackets and blazers as like I said this is a complex job and you don't want a rookie. Seriously ball gowns are easier to draft sew and fit than tailored pieces. If you are searching online classifieds look up close at photos of their work and even ask to see samples on meeting the person to check the quality of their work, a lot of people have bad experiences with custom because they go the cheapest route (a rookie) and are mad when they don't get good results, I have a business like this and hear this from my clients all the time. If you are on a budget I would suggest emailing apparel design schools in your area...I got a lot of my first clients through there and it is usually a good balance of skills vs cost, I wouldn't trust a first year with the project unless they have extensive prior experience but I was successfully doing projects like these for clients in my third and fourth years of school--just an idea!

^that's basically what I've decided to do. I went to a few shops and tried on a slew of blazers, but the problem is the shoulders don't fit when I go up a size, and as was mentioned a seamstress can't really do anything about that without having to take the whole thing apart (which at that point what was the point in buying the blazer?) I've slimed down to the size I was pre-boob job and I used to have to get things taken in a lot then as I am on the small side, and my 30Fs just make clothes impossible (which is why 95% of my wardrobe is separates). The other issue with my frame is that anything not tight-fitted/tailored tends to billow out because of my boobs and I look like a giant block (can't do loose tops or dresses).

I don't want to waste any money on a so-so seamstress or having a really bad fitted blazer tailored just to look wearable, so I'm going to wait a couple months to save up a bit to get a couple nice ones custom made. My boss gets all her suits custom made and I know the price range (about what you said) and hers look nice so I think I'll try her seamstress. If they desperately need me to be in a fitted blazer now then they can pay me more. The weather has turned to shit now anyway and I'm wearing coats.

Why not make a real investment and have it custom made. Most of the clothing sold to women is trash. Get something you can wear for years.

They honestly don't convert that way. An 8 here is more like a 2 in the US and a 6 a 0, it's really unusual for brands to made 4s here. I know that's that it says but having bought clothes in both counties it's not.

That sounds awesome! You want to transfer the money to me so I can go to Fleet Street?

The whole point of my thread is I don't have $500 + to spend on a blazer right now so I was looking for some options for the meantime. I'm not a stripper anymore and sadly that means I don't have stripper £ right anymore.

Not sure if you have a store called "The Limited" in London but I am a 34DD ( I know yours must be bigger ) and find their stuff pretty flattering and comfortable.

Wait and go custom, trust me it will be worth it for you, it sounds like you've done a lot of searching and that you just have a different body shape along with high standards. That's all good, for a customer like you you will be the most happy with a custom piece, regardless of how long you have to wait (why blow $200 on a shitty blazer now when you could wait a month and go get one made. I completely agree that if they DESPERATELY want you in a blazer other than the ones you currently own/would buy, they can give you an advance or something. The sad reality is that since mass production's spread into asia, even luxury brands like Burberry, Chanel, Armani are cutting corners and using shoddy factories to cut production costs. Luxury has never been less luxurious. Nordstrom and Holt Renfrew, for example, is full of polyester. What the actual fuck. But they'll still charge hundreds or thousands per piece. I laugh take a picture, buy some silk and make it myself. Then laugh some more when ladies ask me where I buy my clothes, boom business card, boom new client. I'm glad there are still people who actually care about the quality of the items they purchase, it indicates a much higher level of respect for the planet and people as well.
