Crossfingers Keeping the curl in my hair w/ damp air

So the nice summer weather is gone and the fall is officially here...

I have naturally curly hair and wear straight 20" hair extensions everyday (unfortunately good quality extensions are limited here and I haven't been able to find a good quality colour match that comes in wavy/curly). My hair has natural curl so I just leave it alone; but I put my extensions in flexible curlers every night and take them out in the morning. I'm trying not to use heat products on my hair anymore and over the summer this method worked great, sometimes the curl would last a few days.

Unfortunately now that the weather is changing my curls are barely lasting my commute. The air is so damp that even if I put an umbrella on the moisture gets into the curls and they fall out. My extensions are also heavy and pulling on the curl.

Anyone have advice? I really don't want to go back to using a curling iron ;-(

I would love to hear answers to this problem also.
As long as the answer isn't a chemical body wave.

What styling product do you use to keep the curl? And you're talking about holding the curl for your extension hair right? Why can't you use heat styling tools? If you like using flexible curlers, perhaps try dampening the hair a bit first. Or if you can use styling product, a good quality gel, mousse, serum, hair spray, hair spritz, etc. may help hold the curl longer.

Also is your commute public transportation? If not I'd wear the curlers during the commute, with a pretty scarf/wrap and take them out once I arrived at my destination.

^I don't use any products, just water and bendy rollers. Would putting product on it help? I've never used product on it before, it dries in the rollers and thats always kept it there, but there's added issue of this hair being so long its pulling on the curls.

I don't want to go back to damaging my hair with heat and I love being able to do my hair in 15 minutes in the morning, it would take me 30-40 mins to curl all of this hair I'm up at 6:30 right and and don't want to make it 10 to 5.

It's my understanding that as long as you don't use any alcohol based products or over use products so they don't cause build up of residue then it should be fine. You'd probably have to wash the extensions more frequently.

^yeah that's the downside, product build up will make them knot a lot but frequent washing caused the sealant to come off and then to dry out. It's a no win! I'll see if I what I can find that's non-alcohol based, thanks!

How long are your extensions? Keeping curls in longer hair is super difficult. Your best bet might be to go for the Victoria's Secret look (mostly straight / teased at the top and curled gently at the bottoms). :/

^20" so I know that's partly the partly the problem.

I put some curling mousse in them a few times but it started making them feel too heavy so I stopped, but I haven't washed these yet. Just having that product in them has really made a difference, despite only using it that few times, and having a scarf to wrap my hair up in if it starts raining/thick moisture in the air. I also use the thinnest rollers so the hair is super curly when I take it out, so they have a tighter curl to fall out from.

I can't get the I tighter curls that I used to be able to with shorter hair/better weather; but I can get the loose waves. What sucks tho is that just spraying water on them every night is damaging the hair and causing their shine to deteriorate. Not anywhere near as fast as a curling iron or straightener would, but still annoying.
