    Default Self Promotion

I recently visited a friend at work after a two year hiatus from visiting clubs. The conversation turned to making money and I was surprised to learn that she made no use of any sort of social media for promotion or customer interaction. I've been hanging out with cam-girls lately and they all seem to self promote extensively.
So I am curious, are there dancers at physical clubs using things like Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, or even simple texting for work? If so, is it worth the effort?
    Thanks for your time.

Hi, I work at a physical club and I use Twitter and Snapchat with my club name. Most of the dancers are on Twitter and so is the club as well. If we tweet to the club before work we get a free drink! The club also has Instagram (which I don't use - too close to FB) and Snapchat and encourages us to do takeovers on the club account which are really popular. It's not a lot of work just a couple of pics in our outfits at the start of the night or a video on the pole etc. and we do get customers who come in especially because of it, and if a dancer they like is working. I haven't had this yet but my friend got a regular high spending VIP customer who comes in a lot and that was because he saw her Twitter. So it's definitely worth it IMO!

I avoid social media in general for personal reasons, but I esp would avoid it in relation to club work bc of safety concerns. I have known quite a few dancers who feel the same way. While I don't completely poo-poo it -- bc as SophiaUK explained, it can have very positive results as well -- IMO it creates one more avenue for creeps to find us. Also, dancers who aspire to enter teaching or other particularly straight-laced professions risk having such social-media evidence come back to bite them.

I'm pretty sure many dancers avoid posting images of themselves associated with their clubs because once it's on the internet it's there forever. My ATF told me that the dancer photos on the club website are from years ago and none of those dancers still work there.

So many of the dances I know use their personal text in cell numbers for work, that I am writing an app that will allow them to text and message their customers and even do so in groups, without giving up personal information such as email address phone number Exedra.

Thanks for the responses, they were pretty much what I expected. It is surprising that more clubs don't seem to do much promotion, at least in the area I frequent.
Aniela, I had considered the “creep” factor in why people might shy away from self promotion, but totally forgot that for many dancing is just a short stop on the way to do what they really want. All the gals I've hung out with were “lifers”, which warped my perspective.
SophiaUK, would you self promote if the club you worked at didn't encourage it?
And Foghorn is completely right, once something is online, it never goes away.

Totally understand why some girls would not do it - we have girls who work with kids etc. and don't get involved. Actually only last night one girl was annoyed because her picture was on Snapchat and she wanted it taken off (it was). For me I don't intend to ever get a regular job under someone else again (done that too much in the past 10 years already!) so I don't mind.
Yes, I would promote anyway, actually when I started at my current club last year it only used FB, and I started promoting myself on Twitter along with a couple of others, and then the club caught on and implemented Twitter, Snapchat etc. so it was us instigating it really, not the club.
By the way I never put any nudity on my posts, not even topless, though some girls do.

That's a great idea for an app.

How will it differ from apps like twitter, kik, telegram or even services such as Google voice?
