Default Really weird spot on my skin and I have no clue what it could be. Advice?

So I have this reeally weird spot that won't go away on my left index finger. It is SO weird, almost kind of creepy. You know how when you write with a pencil and it smudges on your hand? It looks just like that, same color and all. Ready for what makes it so weird? It washes off, and then it comes right back! WTF??? It comes back in the same exact spot and is always the same exact size. The only variation I notice is sometimes it is darker than other times. it was really dark yesterday and today it has lightened up some.

I can't find anything from looking it up. The closest thing I can find is psoriasis but I don't think it could be that because it says it can come in a silver like color but it explains it as small silver colored scab like things, or blisters. There is no texture to it, it doesn't itch or cause me any problems. When I first noticed it I thought it was my silver eyeshadow, washed it off and noticed the next day that it was back. I wondered if I missed it or got it on me again so I washed it off again. It took me a couple of days to realize something was up, because it is just so odd.

Is there anyone that could have any idea on what in the world this could be? Since I can't find any information or even anything similar this has me really confused. I've had issues before where I was able to diagnose myself after researching my symptoms and I've pretty much always been right about it when I do so this makes me wonder if even a doctor would know since it is so strange.

Here is a picture of it. It would have showed up better if I could have gotten one yesterday when it was darker, plus my phone is a cheap piece of crap but it showed up enough to notice it atleast.

Hmm, Idk..could be something you rubbed on? You said no pain or itch, so that's good.

Might be something in your car (like your seat belt clasp) or something you pick up and carry through the day.

When you 'wash it off', are you sure that you are washing something superficial off on the top layer of your skin? If it's pooled blood under the skin, the act of 'washing' it might actually be dispersing the collected blood back into the rest of your hand. There are really so many things it could be ranging from a discharge to b-12 deficiency.

I once had a dark purplish bruise like mark show up on the inner wrist of my right hand. It was like 2" X 2" big and looked like a birthmark and very dark. It lasted about 6 months, gradually faded and never came back. I was certainly worried about it but it didn't hurt so I never went to a doctor. It went away entirely on it's own...but it sure took a long time. I never knew what it was, and I'd wager that if I had gone to see a doctor I'd just have been out time, money and would have been even more worried about it.

Maybe you should see a dermatologist.

It could be something I handle that is metal. I don't wear any kind of jewelry because it gives me a similar reaction around any jewelry that I wear, especially gold jewelry or fake jewelry but gold does it the worst for some reason. I guess maybe it could be from the pole at work, our poles are brass I think and I'm almost always atleast touching one of the poles when I'm dancing. Also the metal handle to the door of the smoking lounge in our club, I go in and out of there a lot and this spot is in the area where I grab the handle so that makes sense too I guess. I don't really want to have to go to a doctor and can't really afford to, especially since it doesn't bother me any other way other than being a weird mystery and I don't think it is anything serious to worry about.

ETA - I just wonder if it really could be the pole and the door handle because I only work Thursday-Saturday. It has been on my hand all week so that is 4 days in a row it washed off and came back without me being at work. Well maybe it is metal because the doorknob to get outside at my place is metal and I'm in and out of the house a lot too, so makes sense. I do wipe the pole with bleach spray everytime I go dance so maybe I should clean the handle to the smoking lounge and the doorknob at home, especially the door handle at work since so many people are in and out of that room touching the handle, yuck.

I wouldn't go to a doctor, so much of what keeps doctors in business is impatience and paranoia. If your pole at work is brass...well brass is an alloy of copper and zinc... and oxygen from the air mixed with sweat and skin oils serve to oxidize the copper creating a layer copper carbonate right on your skin. The cleaner the pole, and the cleaner your skin when you touch it the pole reduces this unsightly stain. Good luck!

Whenever anything weird shows up on the body look for symptom clusters if you are deciding on a visit to the doc. Honestly, I am a better safe than sorry girl, as long as you eliminate the door handle/jewellery options. Try using your other hand to open the doors and wear jewellery and see what happens.

Wow, thanks, I didn't know that about brass, lol so that's cool to know. I just went to go look at the doorknob and it actually looks brass too. I also noticed there is a rail I always hold on to when I'm coming in down the stairs, so I'm sure that probably causes it too. I touch a lot of metal, never thought about that. Haha I'm going on a cleaning spree of door knobs, poles and rails today I guess, haha.

Yep, I just found out that it is a metal reaction, pretty sure of it. It wasn't there bad at all today and I just went down the stairs, I noticed after I let go of the rail that it got darker immediately, so that is it. Nothing to worry about. Damn my reactions to metal shit, haha.

Ok, if I can find one. I'm sure my roommate probably has one, she has a ton of jewelry like that so I'll try and see what happens.
