Default Back to the land of the living....

My dog seems to be doing much better, he's on the road to recovery, if he continues to make improvements he should be home Monday or Tuesday. I thank everyone for all your thoughts and well wishes this week as its been a very hard, emotional and trying week. He's doing much better, responding to steroids, his blood levels are on the rise (very slowly but surely!) and he is eating again, they're just going to see if they can get him to go without a catheter now. Back to business as usual and back to work today, just wanted to give a quick update for anyone who was wondering.

I really do appreciate all the kind response, prayers, and anyone whose been with me on this, your support means everything and I'm grateful that I can consider a lot of people on the forums here my friends! Thanks so much, I think we're getting this miracle myself and a LOT of people have been praying for! Now to get ready and get back on cam and bust my arse to pay these ER and vet bills among other things.

Good luck to everyone, tons of positive vibes and tons of money wishes! You're all amazing! <3

We need a Cammer dog ladies thread. I always want to share doggy news & surely I'm not alone! Seriously wish some of us lived closer so we could have dog park days together.

I'm so glad to hear he's doing better! I had a scare with one my dogs a few years ago and it absolutely tore me apart. I'm sure he can't wait to be back home with you!

Yeah the bad thing is, this isn't the first time. When Ares was 11 months old he started to urinate and drip blood and I took him to the vet that I was using to treat his moms diabetes and do check ups for him and such. She did a test and said that he had worms in his bladder? Sounded weird to me. So she scribed him pain medication, a dewormer, and antibiotics. She told me that as long as his belly didn't feel hard that he would be okay and had to wait until the dewormer set in because I would call her days later when he was just going a TON and it was a TON of bright red blood. Sunday when the vet was closed, I looked at him and he didn't look too good and his gums and tongue were grey. He was lying on the floor lifeless after being lethargic a while. I rushed him to emergency and they diagnosed him as 'dying.' They told me if I had waited an additional 5 minutes to get there, he WOULD have been dead. After 2 days in intensive care and a blood transfusion and numerous tests, they told me that the treatment the other vet gave him thinned out his blood too much and he was at 0 platelets and his RBC was 1.97%. He was bleeding to death! They didn't know what the initial cause was of him bleeding in the first place especially because his X-rays, ultrasound and everything came back clear.

They treated him for ITP and suspected that was the culprit, and we went to aftercare to another vet they suspected because his platelets were restoring so easily it wasn't ITP and possibly it was IMHA or AIHA, well after they were decreasing his steroids (cause they can only be on prednisone for so long before it does serious damage) they said it wasn't IMHA or AIHA either and refused to treat him any longer and referred me to a very pricey specialist. A week later he was fine, he stopped randomly with the blood incidents and all was well. About 2 weeks ago it started up again, on and off, and Friday he had an incident on my porch where he started randomly spinning in circles with his eyes darting back and forth, and Saturday he fell really ill, couldn't go to the bathroom, really sick, etc. So I was going to take him to the vet on Monday because no weekend vets, and come Sunday in the middle of the night I had to rush him to emergency again, he was drooling, lying there again and I thought to myself, oh no, not again.....

So they stabilized him, and he came home, but he was still unable to go on his own, after DAYS and DAYS of calling people and everyone telling me with his conditions (kidney failure, unable to go, bloody urine, anemia, heart murmur - which is also caused by AIHA actually, etc) they wouldn't take him in for treatment and my best bet was to let him go. I figured the next day he wasn't going to make it, he was just lying in my bed, miserable, he'd try to go to the bathroom but unable, had stopped eating on Saturday, etc.. I woke up the next morning and he was sitting on the steps, and perked his head up and just gave me this look, and I said, hell no, this dog doesnt want to give up, so neither am I. I stayed up, and did research and made a million more calls until I found ONE more vet that could POSSIBLY help me but I wouldn't know until the next afternoon. So I took him back to the ER to get him stabilized and flushed again, and the next afternoon they told me to bring him in, and that is where he is now.

My dogs are like my kid, I love them all and there is nothing I wouldn't do for them, and it shows that with dedication, persistence, a lot of love for my dog and wanting to help him I was VERY fortunate to find one vet out there with a heart that actually had a dog that had the same condition as Ares. And she was willing to help him, and that is where he is now. Apparently now he is eating, and they are removing his catheter, so as long as he is home free there we are definitely on the road to recovery.

They suspected because of the size of his bladder it was either stones, or a bladder tumor, but due to his severe anemia they were afraid to operate and wouldn't think he would make it. She just re-treated him and re-ran X-rays and discovered there was NOTHING in there and that it had just tripled in size because he was unable to go for so long from being blocked, which was causing the kidney failure, and that it was indeed a relapse of AIHA and that the other vet that was treating me NEVER should have taken him off of steroids, and its a condition he might possibly live with for the rest of his life and always needs to have medical care for. So 2 vets, no go, he almost died twice, and I fortunately found one with a heart quite possibly bigger than mine that was the miracle I needed to save my dog, and for that, I am very thankful.

And we most definitely need a furbaby forum, for sure
