    Crossfingers Getting noticed by management

Within the next few weeks, i will be moving out to stay with my boyfriend. I have been trying to shoot out some feelers by emailing, facebooking, and calling clubs near the area i will be moving to. However, im having a hard time getting responses. I sent a message out to a club this morning asking if they were hiring dancers, and it said that the message was read, but i never got a response. My question is, how do i catch a managers attention and market myself to them in order to get an audition?
For the record- i dont think my appearance is the issue. I consider myself attractive, and i am a decent weight. This has happened with more than one club, whats up with that?

Why don't you just go to the club and ask for an audition?

Oh sorry I re-read the post. I would just go to the clubs when you arrive in the area.

I did this once, it really does help just going to the club and bringing heels/costume already done up. You can see if you like the place and any potential customers, girls you may encounter. They can see if they like you and the chances of getting an audition is higher. Did the applications before and never got a reply back, I don't know if they even check through applications.

So should i not even worry about it until i move? Im just apprehensive to switch cities without another job already lined up. Ive always been one to apply, interview, and get hired way ahead of time with vanilla jobs! I just have this fear that i will get over there and not be able to get a job, while stuck in a lease!

Are you planning to rely soley on dancing income?

Maybe try lining up a part-time straight job to keep at least your minor/primary expenses cared-for while you work on finding a club. You could always just apply for a temp/seasonal type thing so that once you do find a dancing job, you can just finish out the temporary straight-job obligation & then move on w/o risking burning that bridge.

Will the bf be able to halp you at all financially while you get all of this sorted?

Yes, he will be going halfsies with me on everything. How many hours are reasonable at a part time job so that i still have the energy to dance?
I was hoping to make that my sole/main source of income, but i understand it can be difficult to budget for!

^^^^ IME it's best to just work that out w/ the individual employer.

I have always been full-time on straight jobs, w/ the exception of the PT job I held in high school. But at my current straight job, I know the part-time ppl all have different arrangements w/ the powers-that-be to allow for school, 2nd job demands, or whatever else.

I can understand your concerns, because I'm the exact same way! Luckily though, dancing isn't one of those jobs you have to have "lined up" in advance. You pretty much just show up at the club, although I would call/check their website first to see what the "audition" hours are. If they like you, they should hire you on the spot and you'll be able to start right away. The best way you can prepare at this point is to research the clubs in the area and decide where you might want to audition, then see what is required (i.e. you might need a license) to dance in your new state/city.

Also, idk if you're also applying to vanilla jobs, but my advice (having "been there, done that" more than once) is: Either pretend you live there already when filling out apps, or don't even start applying to jobs until you actually get there. It sucks, but IME unfortunately no one is gonna give your resume a second glance if you live out of state, no matter how impressive it is.

So it sounds like it would be wise to work full time and dance on the side, yes? The area where i willbe moving is fairly small, so its not like i will make thousands per shift!

This is also an option. You could certainly start this way & then shift to 'PT straight job + FT dancing' or whichever combo of dancing + straight work suits your needs

I've found that clubs typically don't respond to any online inquiries..even though they may ask for emails, pics t b sent, etc.

Okay! How common is it for girls just to work weekends? Are clubs usually open to that, or are girls needed more on weekdays?
I will definitely hold off on the emails and things and just audition in person- thanks ladies!

Add this to your list of ????s to ask mgmt when you start scouting clubs.

This is one of the many, many, MANY things that is club-specific. Sm clubs, you come & go as you please. Others require a 3- or 4-day minimum workweek & don't care what the days are as long as you show up. Still others require a schedule to be worked out w/ mgmt a wk or more in advance. They may say smtg like 'If you want to work prime shifts you have to take on at least one or two not-so-prime shifts'.

That sounds fair enough! Hopefully the one nearest will be fairly understanding, as it seems like the only one in the area that isnt hella sketchy

If you really need to get info before you move, your best bet is to call. Most clubs aren't super with it technologically, and even though they may have a website and email address or social media accounts, they're barely updated at best. Calling always gets you a live person who can answer questions about auditions, scheduling, dress codes, etc.

Personally, I wouldn't be even remotely concerned about lining up a dancing gig until you get there. Getting an audition is as easy as just walking into the club -- you really don't need to market yourself or get anyone's attention to earn the right to audition. Hell, many clubs don't even actually have auditions and just look you over and hire you or not right then and there. Since it sounds like there are a few clubs out there, you'll probably be fine and will get hired at at least one of them, so don't stress over it! Meaning, don't worry about wasting gas money and "starting" now at that club for fear that you won't get hired at any other club once you get there. Focus on getting your stuff ready for the move and then start auditioning once you're settled. Good luck!
