Dizzy Help! How Do I Get The Knots Ou Of My Hair?

I have mid length, very thick hair.
Since March, I have been wearing it up in a twist, or bun...Anything to keep it off my neck. ( I was living where it was over 100 degrees with no use of an a/c.)
Now that the days are getting cooler, I have these knots that I can't get out
I need to do my roots tomorrow, and cant get a comb through the back middle part.
Any suggestions on how to get these knots out without pulling my hair out?
    Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this is the best answer, but putting olive oil in your hair, and then trying to untangle it, could work. Olive oil can get bubble gum out of hair. (you might try really getting your hair damp with it, for it to work). Then just wash your hair, after you've untangled it. If that doesn't work, the only other guess I have, is to visit a hair salon, and see if the experts know how to work with it. Or maybe someone else will post here, with a better suggestion?

Get yourself a Tangle Teezer brush..it's kind of oval shaped w/o a handle. Can be used wet/dry. I got mine from a salon, it was 17.00 there, & completely worth it. I also have a Wet brush w/a handle which's supposed to be the same thing, but doesn't work nearly as well.
Also I use Original Moxie brand leave in detangler from Sephora, you can use it as a rinse out or leave it in.

    ^^ Yes the detangling brushes!!
If not, get a wide tooth comb and some conditioner and try to work your way through the knots starting from the tips and moving up to the roots. And kinda hold onto the strand as you detangle so you don't pull at the root, does that make sense?

Remain calm lol then grab some suave detangler, the wet brush, and a spray bottle with water to moisten if needed as you go. Damp hair is easier to detangle as the hair just slides apart from the tangles and knots.

Some knots you may have to gently separate by hand but spray some detangler on first then kinda pull the knot apart.

If I cover my fingers in conditioner then pick through the knots with my fingers they come untangled easily.

If you get a chance go find some 'It's a 10' conditioning/detangling spray! It's magic in a bottle.

Yep. I had long hair for 4 years in college. I probably would have cut it off the first summer had it not been for conditioner.

I love Redkin Blonde Idol BBB leave in conditioner - works really well on my bleached hair - I tried a new conditioner from Biolage - Keratin something - in a grayish silver bottle - it was meh - okay the first month then my hair started feeling like crap and tangling at the nape of my neck - I bought this as a leave in and have been very impressed with the de-tangling benefit - if you cant get it worked out you could always try one of the detangling combs that they use on dogs - please dont take that wrong - my pooch gets tangles and I run this thru and it cuts a small amount of hair - more of a thinning than actually cutting so you would cut a huge chunk out of your hair - good luck

I have a detangler for my poochie that I got at Feeders supply - it is all natural ingredients - I can remember the name of it - I used it on my self and my granddaughter who is mixed and it worked really well - I sent the bottle home with her - I will try to call her tomorrow to get the name - I looked on their website and it sucked - no products listed except dog food

I preach long hair growth for tribal reasons and use to have hair down past my hips in the process of regrowth. The best way to get knots out of hair is to use a wide tooth comb, a little bit of coconut oil and gently working from the ends up. Never pull apart or try to release knots while the hair is dry or wet with a fine comb! Hair damage can be microscopic and can cause split ends, tiny strand knots resulting in breakage. You can also soak it in mayo or use olive oil as well. The problem with conditioner is it can contain silicones, which is a bad idea for hair depending on how often you wash it. Also, using henna can help calm down knotting and mask damage done to the shaft. My hair feels 10 times as strong after each overnight treatment and tangle free for months before having to reapply.

Nikki, yes there's a lady on here that doesn't post anymore, she uses a professional product for horse's (NOT the maine/tail stuff that's sold everywhere). I have a pet/feed store nearby that may carry it..I'm going to try & look it up on here too.

Ok, found it! It's mainly about thinning, but may help you/someone? https://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sh...horse+products

Okay, update....bought a detangling brush for thick hair by Michel Mercier, along with detangling spray in the baby products aisle at CVS. (Some products mentioned here were not in my current budget, or I couldn't find them in this tiny town.)
Just spent the last hour working out the knots. Happy to report that my hair is smooth and feels like silk!
    Thanks so much ladies!

I see that you already picked up a few things, but here are some other things you could try if you want to:

    - Aussie Moist conditioner from CVS, it's basically pure dimethicone and makes hair ultra slippery and tangle-free
    - Satin pillowcase (cheap at Bed Bath and Beyond) and a scrunchie to prevent nighttime tangles
    - Coconut oil masque for 30 minutes prior to shampooing. Coconut oil is like $7 at Target now!

My hair is 26 inches long and those are my main tricks for keeping it happy.

I put Infusium conditioner on my horses tails and just leave it in - it is pretty inexpensive at walmart -- the natural dog pet line is Hanscn's

Another quick update: That detangling spray I bought is a miracle worker.
It's by CVS. Its tear free, and i found it in the baby aisle.
Only costs a few bucks, and a little goes a long way.
My hair hasn't been this silky smooth, and healthy since..well,.. a long, long time.
Just wanted to pass this on, in case anyone wants to try it.

I'm in the UK so the products I use might not be available where you are. I have long blonde hair that gets super tangly when I wash it. The best way I can manage it is to condition like crazy with a Kerastase hair masque (Nutritive range), and then comb through a serum. Since getting extensions I've been using Loreal Intensive hair masque (Loreal also owns Kerastase) which is also good. xx
