It's too bad you signed the lease already. From what I understand AT&T is not even cable. It's DSL and super slow. Your upload speed is what is important.
I would not lease a place without broadband and an upload speed of at least 3 (preferably 5 or more).
I hated U-Verse. Highest I ever got was a 4.6mbps upload, which is good, but my Comcast package is the best one they have, and it blows U-Verse off the planet with 24mbps when I'm wireless! There is a difference. There was a difference in my paychecks and how long I spent on my content stores.
Does the apartment even have Comcast available in the area as an option? If so, just switch it over/have it installed if the landlord says it's ok to get it wired in. They have the moving deal, and sometimes will work with people on install fees. Sometimes you are stuck with what options are in the area though. Not all services for a company will be available in different parts of the same town sometimes.

Okay, what you need to do is call Comcast and explain to them the situation. Tell them it's a cottage on the landlord's property and basically the landlord is house A and you're house B at the same address. The landlord has both places wired for AT&T, but AT&T is not capable of giving you the speed you want/need and you want to know if Comcast would be able to transfer your package over to the cottage. If the answer is yes, tell the landlord that you'll be having Comcast wired to just the cottage. Shouldn't be an issue.
When I've moved/needed to be wired up, I've been able to get it taken care of within a few days. If Comcast is available at the new place, schedule them to come out on the 31st or 1st and get you set up so you can get back to work right away. They'd rather not lose a customer, so they'll make it happen.

Convincing the landlord should go as follows: 'hey landlord. I checked with AT&T about their internet packages and what they offered won't work for me. I currently use Comcast and they're happy to hook up a line to the cottage for me. That cool with you? Obviously, all installation costs and the bill will be 100% in my name and have no impact on your set up with AT&T.' It's not a big deal at all and the landlord is out a tenant otherwise.
Easy peasy. Depending on when you move in, Comcast may even be able to set up your line the same day you move in (or earlier, if the landlord is willing to let them into the cottage).

^^^ I wouldn't move into a place where the landlord lives in the main house. AND you'll be camming from there? Just curious, what kind of work did u tell him u do?
Just went through something like this, and...no.![]()
