    Default Ordering drinks without drinking...

I just got hired at my first club (yay!). I had a talk with the manager that was showing me around, and mentioned that I'm a super light weight, but I don't want to be the "Oh I don't drink" Debbie Downer. He said I could just talk to the waitresses (there's only a few) and let them know that if I order this certain drink, have the bartender ring it up as what I ordered, but pour it very VERY light. I'm thinking a Vodka drink would be good. But I honestly only drink beer normally, so I need suggestions on a drink that will still look as it should, without all the alcohol in it, and might taste nice. Also, what's a good brand so I can order a more expensive drink and run the tab up for my waitress?

Thanks for any help. If there's been a thread like this before, please point me in the right direction. I tried to look, but alcohol and drinking is mentioned so much it's hard to sift through.

i always order a virgin sex on the beach. its a sexy conversation starter and looks exactly the same virgin. i make money on drinks, i'd be sloshed constantly if all my drinks had alcohol in them. just talk to the bartenders and make sure they give you virgin mixed drinks

I looked it up. Sounds tasty, I'm definitely going to try that one. Thanks so much. Any other suggestions are still very welcome.

Easiest way round the drinking expectation: IME anyway, tell them you're diabetic. Alcohol & diabetes tend to not play nice together, & only the most disrespectful customer (who you really won't want to deal w/ anyway) would continue to pressure you after being told this.

Also, run a search on 'drinking at work' 'staying sober at work' etc. Those threads include many great ideas for getting round drinking at work.

Even the most incompetent club should be able to keep a list of who drinks and who doesn't.

Yeah if a customer offers me a drink, I just tell them that I can only drink in the back bar... Which is true. We aren't allowed to drink with customers at their tables (unless they sign us out and buy a bottle). Lol if they want to give me cash for the drink, more power to them. Lol

I've also used the "I'm driving home" line. This works too because my state has strict/zero tolerance DUI laws and cops are pretty much looking for drunk drivers-- especially at 2 am on a weekend night, when all the bars are closed/closing.

I like the diabetic idea too. Lol

Do you get a cut of the drink sales or something? If not, while I understand the desire to help out your server with hopefully getting a bigger tip due to a bigger tab, I mean, it's in your best interest to keep as much of the customer's money in his wallet until he's ready to spend it on you. No sense in making customers buy you a bunch of drinks with Grey Goose (asking for premium alcohol in a mixed drink is probably the easiest way to run up the bar tab btw) only to have him spend all the cash on drinks and not have much/any leftover for dances.

I find that most clubs have a drink you can order without alcohol in it, I always ask the bartender before the shift starts at a new club what theres is called. At one club I always ordered greygoose cran and pineapple but when i wanted it to be virgin id say grey goose cran and oj and they knew what i meant

Also in the state with strict DUI laws and I find telling them that I have to drive home soon & the cops hide down the street from the club gets them to cut the "aw come on just one" factor. The cops really DO hide down the street, I've been tailed a couple times and a ton of dancers/bartenders/customers have DUIs from them.

If you REALLY don't want to drink, don't. Honestly I've never lost a sale from it; I think it speeds up my sales actually bc the guy doesn't get to waste my time with drinking.

If you DO want to at least sell drinks (some clubs have kickbacks), see if they have a drink that the bartender makes with no alcohol. If they don't, maybe see if you can set up a 'code phrase' to tell her to make w/e you order without booze; like "A vodka cranberry; you know how I like it". Tip her $5 at the end of the night for helping you out.

Bumping this with a question about avoiding alcohol when the customer gets bottle service.

I am going to finally try out the upscale club this week, and they don't have a back area or other private area for VIP -- just raised booths along the walls. They are small, right up against the walls, have no strategically placed plants or fancy container-type centrepieces on the tables, and I don't know if a champagne bucket is provided. Access to these booths is either $200 directly to the club (then you set your own hourly rate on top of that), or buying a bottle. I plan to push the bottle option since the customer actually gets something tangible for that fee instead of just lining the club's pockets, and some of the bottles start well below the $200 mark so he keeps more money to spend on me.

Thing is, I do not drink at work. I have previously relied on the diabetic excuse mentioned above, but I was never in a club where pushing bottle service was a big part of my income. I'm unsure about pushing bottles because a) the customer's assumption that I am going to drink it with him and b) there is nowhere to ninja-dump my glass. These booths are also in full view of the floor so I think that rules out stealthily tipping my glass over the table edge to hydrate the carpet.

Thoughts on how to work around this?

I’ll ask them for a bottled water if they want to buy me a drink, or more often try to push them towards buying a dance, instead. I have practically no tolerance for alcohol, and very little even for sugary beverages and caffeine (Mennonite upbringing… we simply weren’t allowed it as kids), plus I have to drive home at the end of the night, plus my vanilla job requires me to keep a valid drivers license (actually, a CDL), so I absolutely cannot risk a DUI/DWI.

If nothing else, I’ll order a rum and Sprite. The bartenders know that nobody will order that, so they know it’s me, and that I only want a Sprite.

^^^^ In your experience, if you as a dancer are trying to nudge them toward a bottle purchase (for whatever reason), do they tend to be more insistent that you drink with them, than they would be if it's the waitress pushing the bottle?

As far as I can tell, this isn't the kind of club that pressures dancers to imbibe, and I have no problem arranging with the bar to get virgin drinks for myself. I guess my thinking is that it seems hypocritical or sleazy (from the customer's perspective) to be pushing him to buy a bottle and then refuse to join him in drinking it, and wondering how to handle being called on that.

I’ll never forget a broad on here said she order a drink then pour that mf in the carpet.

I damn near choked laughing as I envision her non-discretely creating numerous liquor carpet stains.

I don’t really know what kind of answer you are hoping for but I don’t know what the advantage is of selling alcohol unless you get a monetary benefit from the sales. Otherwise you are just fucking yourself, kind of??

If you don’t benefit from alcohol sales, just leave it up to the customer. When I am in Vegas, a lot of guys surprisingly do not want to drink. And, a lot do, too, and do want you to have a drink with them. I do not drink and will only have occasional glass of champagne, otherwise I order a drink that the staff knows is fake, and I still do very well there. There is no reason to make yourself uncomfortable or compromised when there are very easy ways around this.

As I said, to access the VIP area (such as it is), the customer can either pay $200 which all goes to the club, OR they can pay for a bottle. Bottle prices seem to start at $150 and go up from there, and there are several choices of liquor or champagne. I figure the bottle option would get more success for the reasons I stated in my post. AFAIK there is no drink/bottle commission for the dancer; you simply charge your own hourly rate on top of the bottle cost or the flat $200.

Bottle options are new to me because I have never worked in a club where they were really a thing (either BYOB, bottle commission only goes to the waitress or just not part of the club's offerings), so I am unsure of whether a customer is going to be more insistent that you drink with him since you pushed him to spend on the bottle. There also don't seem to be many covert options for dumping your drink due to the open setup. I don't want to get loaded at work but I also don't want to find myself in a spot where a customer is getting pissy because he dropped however much on a bottle and expects me to help him drink it.

Sure, they’d like for us to push drinks, but I get nothing from it, so why would I? The waitresses do, and all drinks sold have to be credited to one of them. So, there are a very limited number of regulars who, if they want a drink and it’s packed and will be a while before the waitress gets to them, I’ll go get it for them, but it gets credited to the waitress working that section, all the same.

The rest, I don’t know… I imagine they’re expected to go for the upsell, just as I was when I waitresses at Tilted Kilt. Not my gig, so I didn’t really pay attention to that part.

You're not pushing him to get the bottle, the club is. Word it like "In order to go back there you have to get a bottle $150 or more OR you have to give them $200 to rent the booth". That way it's his decision and you place all the blame on the club. That is THEIR RULES. Then, fake sip your glass and keep refilling his glass.

If it's dark, he's been drinking/you keep him busy how would he notice?

I also heard an entertainer pours the alcohol when no body is looking into the bucket that has ice.

And I usually don't get guys to spend a lot if I get drunk or start drinking. It's better to get him in Vip, while mentioning the drink and pretend you're drinking with him. So he gets intoxicated, while enjoying himself and spends more.

I meant to respond to the original poster. Oops. And accentially responded to you and noticed we were saying almost the same thing. And I didn't feel like deleting and redoing the post, though. Feeling lazy.
