    Tired Stomach bloating / gas pain only when at work!!

    I always get really bad stomach pains from gas / bloating when I do a full shift at work - perhaps this is too much information but basically its not like actual farts, just trapped air similar to how I feel when I fly but much much worse. If i'm only at work for say 5 hours its ok, but by the end of an 8-hour shift i'm often in quite a lot of discomfort.

    Does anyone else get this and/or know what causes it / what could prevent it? I think it is definitely worse if i dont get to eat anything during my shift, but then again, sometimes ill eat and it will make it worse. Eating mints definitely makes it worse, and i think sometimes gum does too.

    Could it be all the moving around? It just seems weird that i always get it at work and hardly ever any other time.

    That sounds like anxiety, I used to get the same thing when I would get really nervous. I'd suggest (if you know for sure it's not dietary) paying more attention to your breathing by taking deep, slow breaths, and meditation. Even if you aren't thinking anxious thoughts it can still cause physical symptoms. If mediation doesn't work, beta blockers might

    Do you drink alcohol or carbonated drinks at work? I know that can cause gas.

    I read briefly tonight, an article that might be of interest/help to you, in Nov. Redbook mag. It does mention stress, but also tight clothes (incl. Spanx) & sweetners along w/a couple other things I can't remember.

    You're pregnant?

    If not could be what you are eating and drinking beforehand. And chewing gum can cause gas so I'd avoid that if I were you.

    Best thing you can do is keep a food and drink diary tracking everything that goes in your mouth and how you feel once it's digested then you'll have a better idea of what's causing your symptoms.

    This sounds gross but, holding gas in while at work can contribute to bloating and make you feel uncomfortable as can alcohol, carbonated drinks and energy drinks etc. Are you taking any supplements, pre-work outs or medicines before work that may be contributing to it or eating anything at work that might be causing a food allergy?

    ^^^^i was just thinking the same thing when I re-read the original post. The OP said she had trapped air not like a fart but if you have trapped air you probably need to fart or burp the air out.

    I take papaya/pineapple enzymes, the ones I get are a chewable tablet from Trader Joe's, but any health store should have them. Also, I drink club soda/sparkling water, my fav is Gerolsteiner brand, it contains minerals & natural carbonation avail @ Trader Joe's & Whole Foods.
    I have had digestive issues most of my life including acid reflux ^ (both of the above are good for) & IBS-C, which I eat a fresh grapefruit several times a week or more w/a cup of coffee to cleanse (watch the coffee, & the grapefruit as both are highly acidic, I always drink water/sparkling water afterwards.

    Could it be a case of too much physical activity? I know it sounds counterintuitive, but many people, myself included, actually bloat after exercising. When you physically stress your body, it releases cortisol, which causes you to bloat. Doing longer shifts could be too much activity for your body. Potassium, lean protein, Vitamin C, and water can help stave it off a little. Avoid sugar, starches, and too much fiber before your shift.

    I used to get this. I think it's all the moving around and carbonated drinks. Buy some Gas-X late so no one sees you at the store and take as needed.

    Yeah Gas-X worked really well for me when I had really bad painful gas to the point I couldn't get out of bed. I've also used Diurex for bloating and that has helped a lot too before my period starts.

    Mine does this too sometimes unless I don't eat for super long but I think mine is because of alcohol. I drink lots of vodka and juice at work so that might be it for u 2

    Thanks for the advice everyone!!
    I'm pretty sure it isnt anxiety as it can happen even on nights when i'm sat down all night with one regular (those lucky awesome fantastic nights), it also happens even on nights when i only drink water and no carbonated drinks - i think i'll try the food diary and some Gas-X (even though im not sure what that is, i'll just ask in the drugstore).

    1/4 tsp of baking soda with some warm water. You can also take a tbsp of ACV a while before the baking soda. You are probably holding air since you are working and trapping those gasses. Same happens to me. The baking soda will help release the trapped gases and tha ACV will help prevent it. It's the ONLY thing that works for me. Sweeteners in gums and mints are definitely making it worse as are any carbonated drinks. Eating a nice protein rich light meal a couple hours before working is ideal. I find if I eat too soon before work and then drink a lot of water (I go through a couple bottles if its hot in the club) makes it much worse. a full belly of water and undigested food creates gas.
