    Default gelatin/collagen

so i've been reading up on how good animal gelatin is for your skin and joints and collagen production/youthful looking skin in general and how the modern american diet is severely lacking with our "skinless boneless lean meats". my bf makes bone broth from scratch which is awesome but i'm looking for it in other ways ( besides gnawing down on animal cartilage lol). is knox gelatin ok you think? i called up my natural grocery store and all they had is "vegan gelatin" (like wtf is the point). i'm guessing knox is far from high quality but its the only one i have been able to find in stores. i'm a little surprised about how little info/awarness is out there about it. does anybody else know of a good gelatin company that grass feeds their animals?

Look up the Great Lakes brand, you can get it on Amazon.

    I take http://www.vitalproteins.com
I like it, does not have a smell at all.
I take it with my bone broth and i dont see any results, yet.
But i do sleep better, but skin, hair, nails, joins same as before))i would notice the differents, my nails are so bad lately.
I would try to boost my own collagen production by taking vit c complex.

^^You can buy the Great Lakes on Amazon individually and not in bulk. Buying pastured meat regularly isn't cheap either if it helps. Plus making bone broth is extremely time consuming, I make mine a lot and I let my chicken broth simmer for at least 12 hours, I usually try to aim for 24. Beef you let go for longer. Chicken feet have tons of collagen in them if you want a lot of collagen in your broth btw.

i'm thinking of raising and butchering my own chickens in the spring, just getting a little chicken tractor for my yard. the most annoying part for me is finding organic meat that still has the bones in it in stores. i eat a ton of meat/protein, almost every night for dinner and you're right it does get expensive!

http://realfoodliz.com/category/podc...girls-podcast/ I have been listening this podcast, so informative and one ep was dedicated to chicken.
I honestly dislike chicken broth. Makes me feel bad..i buy bison's bones and so far it is so good and tasty. I put turmeric, onion, celery, carrots, acv cook for 24 hours but bison is a tough cookie))sometimes takes even longer.
I just ask farmers if they have bones, i dont buy meat with bones. Im more interesting in bone marrow.
I know pig's feet has alot of collagen.

Well, not sure if this's what you're wanting/looking for, but there's some little (.33 oz) Nugg brand masks, got mine @ Target, Ulta has too. They have different kinds, I got the hydrating one. Haven't tried it yet, it was on Allure's best list.
Maybe what you want's @ a health store?
Wait, there's Organic Pharmacy brand, I love them, they're kinda expensive. I got a collegen mask as a sample but never used it. I used their other skin care stuff, it's great, everything is 99.9% organic, sourced from sustainable, environmentally friendly, fair trade etc. You can order their stuff on line, or the store Barney's New York has their stuff, in store or online.

Can you find a butcher in your area? They will usually have tons of bones but whether or not the animals are pastured is another story. If you can find a store that at least sells pastured whole chickens that would be amazing because that will have all the bones in it.

Online shopping is an option too but it's tricky because there's a minimum so you have to buy in bulk but everything constantly goes in and out of stock so it can be hard to plan: http://grasslandbeef.com/

I buy chicken feet and cook them for about 2 hours. The broth congeals when cool because there's TON of collagen in it. I also take Vitamin World Marine Collagen pills in my kale shake.

I have really bad knees and I mix knox gelatin with tea. You can order it on Amazon, it's cheaper that way than buying it at the grocery store. It has more "odor" compared to the Great Lakes Gelatin, which is grass fed and doesn't have much odor at all. I use the knox one because it's cheaper and I am on a budget, it works the same as Great Lakes.

If you have the money, go for Great Lakes because it mixes easily in hot water and you can barely taste it, plus you're supporting a grass fed industry. But if you're on a tight budget, Knox does the job.

i'm boiling up some chicken bones right now..gonna go for 12 hours at least. we weren't boiling them for long enough before i guess! and yes def. chicken feet!! my parents raise chickens so i'll be getting some from them

the thing about collagen masks/skin care is that the collagen molecules are way too big to penetrate the skin, rendering skin care pointless..you have to get it from the inside

I just want to point that you DO NOT boil, you supposedly have to simmer bone broth for hours.

^ yeah, true, you let it soak with Apple cider vinegar in cold water for 20 minutes, then bring to a good boil THEN immediately turn it down and let it simmer with as low heat as possible for 12 -24 hours for chicken, like 48 hours for beef i guess. this is my second or third go at it, trying to get it perfect this time. last time i added way too much water. i also didn't get a good ratio of joints/feet/collagen-rich parts to plain bones last time. but this time i bought an entire organic chicken and saved everything, even the neck to simmer down. going for 24 hours this time, i want this to be pure jiggly gelatin when i refrigerate it. my house smells awesome right now

i like to drink liquid bullion, this is my everyday gut healing routine. I drink a glass of it before going to sleep, and i sleep so much better now.
Once i had a headache and i decide to drink a glass of broth before taking a pain killer. But as soon as i finish my glass, headache was off too.

Also coming here to say I take gelatin for my knees, and it seems to be working. It's also supposed to help with fine lines so hopefully I see improvement there.
I'm lazy so I just buy it online and mix it into my prepackaged broth haha (which I then make into a proper soup). Though once in a while I do make my own bone broth using the crockpot (don't forget the chicken feet!)

You can also mix it in tea which I do sometimes... but it's bizarre.
I currently buy the vital proteins brand at the health store, but if you're really broke you can probably get away with drinking liquid sugar free jello? Hahaha.

So update for anyine who cares..I've been making bone broth from chicken feet for the past 3-4 months and WOW. I have the skin of a health-conscious 17 year old. It's amazing. 0 knee problems. It's delicious, cheap, easy, and feeds my family of 3 for a week or so! However this reminds me that I also wanna do the Great Lakes powdered gelatin , I mean you can never have too much goodness right? Lol

I just wanted to add that I make bone broth in my crock pot, it is super easy. Throw everything in, walk away, and strain well.
