    Default Knee problems?

I'm freaking out because I think I tore my collateral ligament. (Felt a 'pop' doing floor work.) Either way, my knee is swollen and INCREDIBLY unstable. Even just walking. I don't have two months to just rehabilitate myself. I'm wearing a brace and on my way to a sports medicine doc, so we shall see. I'm so upset though; I've been dancing for a year and planned on doing it for at least another.

Ugh. I am SO sorry this happened to you. Not surprised though. Most of us deal with various knee issues.

After you're rehabilitated, I'd *highly* recommend yoga to help maintain your body while you're dancing. Yoga has an incredibly balancing effect on the body's muscles (whereas weight lifting can throw the body out of balance). It's been insanely helpful for my own knee / leg problems (pulled muscles, torn meniscus, etc.).

Agree with charlie61 on the yoga, it's the only thing that helped with my knee problems, which grew to be so severe I was unable to work. I hope that you feel better soon!

Adding that I do yoga 3x/week ("hot vinyasa power flow" - integrates stretching with body-strengthening poses) and take a deep-stretching class 1-2x/week.

I always join yoga studios that offer unlimited monthly memberships, so I pay about $99/month for unlimited yoga classes (which helps me to stay focused on the yoga rather than the money). I now consider this to be a staple in my health regimen. I work once a week and spend the rest of the week undoing the damage done during my work shift. And it's not like I'm doing flips on stage or anything!
