Question Getting hired in a dive?

So I'm 100% aware that I can't get hired a a very upscale club at the moment, but what about a dive? Is that possible for me? If not, what should I change (besides weight), and how should I do it? TIA!

You could get hired at a dive easily and I think you could work at a mid tier club as well. Do you work out? You don't need to lose weight just tone up a bit. I would invest in some self tanner too since a nice tan could help you look a little more toned. You look ready to work at a dive now though so just go audition.

Of course you can! Hell yeah girl! And with a little toning up + acquired dancing / hustling skills, you'll be ready for nicer clubs in no time!

I would recommend getting a different - specifically, more colorful - outfit. Try some jewel tones if you're afraid of playing with brighter colors. That said, if you don't have the money for it right now, then it looks like you have what you need to get started! Seriously, I was a hot mess for my audition, fashion-wise. You'll figure it out.

Stop wasting time and get out there!

@whitlez thanks, will look into them!
@22lligm lol, im doing the opposite of working out, and i KNOW i will lose weight as soon as i start - at the moment, i am sitting at a desk and driving all day, and eating fast food at least 2x a day. so once i switch my routine, i will look much better. this is the biggest i've been in along time. on top of that, once i move i will be able to ride horses more, which does wonders for your abs and legs!
@charlie61 haha that was actually for my virgin initiation at the rocky horror picture show. we had to do an underwear run and this is all i had that matched! any store suggestions? i hate buying online because i have totry it on first - and i cant buy "sets" that are already matched up because, well, booty.

Maybe Burlington Coat Factory? They oddly have some cheap, cute lingerie. It depends on how much you'd like to spend and how long you're hoping the outfit will last.

If I were you, I'd look for a red-lace sheer babydoll with matching thong / skimpy undies.

I have danced when I was much bigger than I'm now. One piece tube dresses are very flattering. Boyshorts in lieu of thongs will help cover the troublesome areas. Get higher heels (over 7") so you'll look slimmer.

I work in a mid-tier and work with girls who are bigger than you are, dollface. I don't know if you can call yourself "bigger." Sure, you could use some toning, but you aren't chunky or BBW or anything...

The more time you spend overthinking this, the more time you waste. You'll learn more in your first hour of dancing than you could learn on SW in three months of reading.

    Keep us updated!

yeah, that's not "bigger", even for a stripper. i'm chunkier and i can get hired at dives and mid tier. only really upperclass places or ones still stuck in the 1990s require you to be much skinnier. i think you look awesome and on the slim side of curvy!!

If anything keeps you from getting hired, it won't be your body type. I'm not going to lie - if you show up and you're super awkward, tripping over your heels, dancing spastically on stage, and can't even look the manager in the eye - you might struggle to get hired (depending on how divey of a dive we're talking about here). I'd say those factors are more important.

If you think you might be visibly nervous when you get there (I'm talking visibly nervous), either first visit the club as a customer, or show up for an audition and ask if you can sit for an hour or two before your audition. Just say you're a bit nervous because you're new to the business and would love a chance to watch how the club works before you go on stage. It's a common request.

    okay, so:
    stress less about body type
    wear colorful/flattering outfits
    be confident
know how to walk in heels (duh)
    be confident (twice for emphasis)

    You got it, girl!

I danced like a spaz for my audition and still got hired. So don't wait to go in until you look like a pro. Just try to be slow and sensual, confident, and wear something flattering with your hair down + stripper heels. You'll be fine!!

Yikes...unless you're naturally a heels girl, I'd recommend getting something a bit safer. When you add club adrenaline + dancing onto uneven flooring (dives!) and potentially stairs...that's a recipe for audition disaster! Maybe save the super-high ones until you get a bit more comfortable?

I'm an 8+ year veteran and I still dance in these: http://snaz75.com/el-656-march.html

so what height do you think would be easy to dance in, but still give that leaner look?

You don't look big to me at all, and being soft in the mid section is not that big of a deal. A lot of dancers don't have flat stomachs. I think you'd be fine at either a dive or mid tier.

I'm bigger than you and I have to say I do pretty damn well in my little "upscale dive" (club looks like shit on the outside, in a bad neighborhood, but there have been many very nice renovations inside). Just get a pair of heels and go for it. Worse they can do is turn you away, but at least you tried.

If you can afford it, go to Victoria's Secret (or another lingere store) and get a snazzy matching set. Maybe try Forever 21 and get a cute mini skirt dress. Or if you have an adult store near you, sometimes they have a dressing room when they carry dancer clothing so you could try stuff on. Definitely get actual dance thongs at least. Regular thongs don't have the right coverage and are way too thin. You don't need anything fancy to start with. Worry about a wardrobe after you have the job and know you'll keep it. Try to buy stuff from other dancers to save some $$.

The tiny pudge you have should melt off after a few weeks of constant movement. A tan really does make a difference (My money will tank drastically when I don't spray tan)

Rock confidence. Walk in there and act like you own the fucking joint. If you don't think you're hot shit, why should the customers?

It's not so much the heel height that makes a big difference. It's the surface area of the bottom of the shoe. Tiny girls have no problem galloping around in 8" spike heels. But for those of us who weigh more (I have a very athletic figure, but I'm 5'7" and weigh 145ish), starting on heels with a wider base and heel can be an enormous confidence saver.

Something about my body type, I also always have at least slight love handles regardless of my weight/condition. The narrow string side type G-strings seem to really accentuate them. I stick to booty shorts mostly or the wider lace side style thongs. Problem solved.
