    Search Mushrooms for immune support?

Have any of you ever tried taking medicinal mushrooms as a supplement (I'm *not* talking about psilocybin)?

Why did you start taking them?

    Did you notice any effects?

I just ordered these (http://www.amazon.com/Host-Defense%C...6861921&sr=8-3), kind of just for fun. I'm curious. I started reading about them on Dr. Weil's site and have been intrigued ever since.

Years ago, there was this type of mushroom, it was in an acid-y base liquid. I forget what kind of mushroom it is, but now I see it added to juice & teas @ Whole Foods.
At the time I got it, it was hard to get, I bought it from a lady out of her home. I don't remember if it helped me or not.
I also liked Shiitake mushrooms, I mostly added them for taste, they soak up whatever they're cooked with, & remove the bad stuff you get from tv & other screens.
Personally, I got & liked some hair growth, & detox things from this company, & love their skin care http://www.theorganicpharmacy.com/he.../immune-system
I haven't tried their immune systems products.

I took a mushroom ( various ones ) pill from GNC awhile ago. I felt run down a lot and getting sick more after than I thought I should be so I was trying a bunch of natural things.
EDIT to add : No side effects. Wasn't impressed enough to buy another bottle but it doesn't seem to have hurt .

Yes, I recommend the Host Defense MyCommunity mushrooms to people allllll the time! They are the world's most powerful medicine for the immune system. I am on them right now, as well as Agarikon pills. I always feel very healthy on them. My body heals quicker, I never get colds or the flu while on them, AND they have been known to cure many ailments!

Paul Stamets is the one who formulated them.

    Paul Stamets TED talk:

The MyCommunity pills have 17 different species of the world's most powerful medicinal mushrooms. One of those mushrooms included in those pills are Turkey Tail mushrooms, which the video talks about. Turkey Tail mushrooms CURED Paul's mother's stage 4 breast cancer. No joke, it's powerful stuff!!! I'm glad to see they are becoming more popular. I have friends who are getting into them as well.

Not to get too far off topic, but wouldn't integrating more mushrooms into ones diet help accomplish the same kind of things as taking the supplements would ? I'm trying to integrate boiled, or microwaved full shape mushrooms into my diet. (As opposed to the "slices" commonly part of salad bar offerings. Thoughts on that?

^Most medicinal mushrooms are essentially inedible (like trying to eat bark or dirt). Far different from white-button mushrooms and similar, which actually contain toxic compounds and should be cooked at a high heat before consumption (ideally).

Also, supplements are concentrated, purified, etc.

You might want to google Shitake cooking recipes because those are supposedly really good for immunity.

Yes. That's one of the few exceptions for medicinal mushrooms.

No. Vitamins and minerals are needed to maintain the body and its functions. But medicinal mushrooms (in particular the mycelium) have special properties such as polysaccharides, glycoproteins, ergosterols, triterpenoids and other myconutrients that boost the immune system and stimulate more T cell production.

And not all medicinal mushrooms have the same properties. Lion's Mane mushrooms, for example, are good for nerve regeneration and brain health. Shiitake are good for the immune system. Turkey Tail are good for cancer patients and for people who have HPV and other diseases. Turkey Tail have been known to cure cervical dysplasia and breast cancer. I believe they are the most important mushroom a woman can take.

I'm obviously a mushroom freak, and I'm always researching them constantly and updating my knowledge. BTW, I'm currently taking Turkey Tail pills everyday and they are definitely the reason I didn't get the flu when everyone else around me did. When my partner got pneumonia, I made him take Turkey Tail pills. He made a quick recovery- after taking them, within 2 days he started to recover.
