    Angry I h*te the dj (part 2)

Unfortunately we have a revolving door of djs. Most so them are cool and play pretty much anything we want. The best one save files of song we like so we don't have to keep constantly asking them to play preferred music and or risk having them get our music style wrong.

But the ones I hate which is what I'm dealing with is a newly hired dj who doesn't listen to dancers (or certain dancers) and plays whatever he wants. He even lies and give b*tch a$$ excuses like "oh can't play that cause it's too slow, or the manager won't let me play xyz genre, or the owner is here I can only play top 40".

Instead of him saying no I'm not taking requests or I'm not familiar with certain genres or I'm not up to date on the newest music, he give some lame excuses.

Every song i asked asked him to play is new and iTunes top 100. I never ask to play straight trap, hood music, or slow rkelly type r&b so there is no reason why my songs can't get played. I even have my preferred music cued up on my phone so he can listen to a preview. But he won't listen to a preview and instantly reverts to default excuse.

I have customers of all races so I want to play music I like yet sounds good enough to attract anyone to tip me on stage.

And yet this bitch played Futures whole damn record and hit the Quan (songs I would not dance to in the club but still it's the principle) for these other hoes. Oh thought you couldn't play trap music f*cker?!!?

    Now Im pissed

    Anybody annoyed by their Dj?

I hate that and that's exactly what it was like at my main club back home. The DJ would say whatever song I want has too much rap or he just straight up won't play it because the 'manager won't like it'. Then immediately after will play some Fetty Wap or that song 'I'm a stoner' which sounds like rap to me. Then if I complained he would act as though I was way out of line. I just didn't get how whatever hip hop songs I picked weren't allowed and then his reasoning for these other hip hop songs were okay didn't make sense. I just figured whatever song I chose would be too much rap no matter what lol. By the time I got close to moving I just told him this club sucks and you DJs here suck lol. I never like DJs my favorite thing is when they're really rude at first until they see you naked on stage and then all of a sudden he's super cool and friendly. That's been happening to me a lot when I start at a new club. DJ's are annoying.

^^^^thank you! This is just what I mean. Glad to hear I'm not acting neurotic and other djs are like this.

The funny thing is I don't even dance to those genres cause thats guaranteed they'll decline my music request (I dance to upbeat r&b, electronic, dubstep, pop, alternative) and the song I asked about that he claimed was too slow was an upbeat r&b/pop/dance blend so he's full of sh*t. Mind you he's never heard the song or the artist cause when I asked him two days earlier for the same song he's like "who? Is is a slow song?"

The problem is I do think the Djs are slightly restricted (like they can only play so many rap, r&b, hip hip, trap songs) however they only play what they are familiar with, which is mainstream artists like Lil Wayne, Future, Fetty Wap, Kanye, and maybe Nicki Manaj.

And I think they don't want to admit they aren't that familiar with and don't know these genres outside the mainstream artists that everybody and their grandma knows.

I like to be on the cutting edge of music and dance to the newest hottest songs. I had another similar dj who refused to let me dance to weeknd, when he first came on the scene, claiming it was too slow. Not all of his songs are slow, the dj simply never heard of weeknd at that time and didn't care to listen and see what songs could be played in club.

Pure laziness!!! Like how good a dj are you when you don't know the genres/artists and too arrogant to educate yourself.
At this point, I'd rather have Paris Hilton as a DJ then this a$$hat.

do the other girls tip him well?? or buddy buddy up to him? i had a dj like that too, thought he was king shit of turd pond and would always go "you're not in charge of the music, I AM" like some almighty power trip. i found stroking his ego a bit and giving him a few bucks when i requested my songs smoothed out his little ruffled feathers. but very frustrating to have to put up with

^^^^i didn't even think about the extra tip thing. We have a mandatory minimum tip for DJ. I tipped the DJs extra if I asked for new music they didn't have but they willingly downloaded for me. So the tip is positive reinforcement for doing something good for me. I don't see where I could tip him extra yet cause all he's done is piss me off.

This DJ is some guy who has been on the scene for a while but he just started working this club recently. He's apparently popular and the veteran dancers know him. One of the dancers told me I need to get in good with him before he would loosen his death grip on the music selection. However I don't feel like brown nosing an arrogant little prick who doesn't know how to collaborate with dancers on their music.

All I know is if this c*cksucker plays lame a$$ over played mainstream 'urban' music next shift....I'm rebelling!

OMG I hate it so much when new DJs try to act like the club's rules are preventing them from playing certain songs. Most of my club's DJs have been working with me for a while, so I'm lucky in that respect, but every once in a while we'll get some whippersnapper covering a few shifts and he'll tell me that a song I've been dancing to for literal years is a no-go. Or that it's not in the computer. Shut up and let me make my money!

If it's impacting your money that badly, you could always give him a USB stick with your preferred songs and a $10. It's annoying but out of all the club staff, I think the DJ is probably the most important to have on your side.

Ohh yes, I've worked with some truly terrible DJ's who have downright embarrassed me with their music selection! One of them used to make me dance to 70's music, it was during the day and he only played older music. Mind you, I was 22 years old and looked even younger at the time and it was so damn awkward! My solution was to just roll with it, not pay attention to the music, and make it look sexy anyway! I would even joke around about it with the customers which was actually a good ice breaker. But I made sure this reflected in his tip, and would only tip him minimum out of obligation. You should call him out on it, and not let him get away with his lame excuses. I'd be like "uh huh, so whats the REAL reason you dont play me my music but you'll play it for the other girls?"

^^^^ Im going to have to say or do something if it keeps happening. I like the usb drive loaded with some of my preferred songs and tip. So I may try that. Where do you download music? I have a few songs on iTunes but I'm not sure I can transfer them to the usb

Try requesting a list of the music you like while handing him a $20. It will be worth it at the end as your earnings increase due to the positive vibes you'll get from dancing to your kind of music. If he continues playing the music you don't like, then tip him minimum. If he starts playing your songs, then keep tipping him well. That way he'll be motivated to play what you like.
