Default NEW COMPUTER - Do I buy an OVERCLOCKED or GAMING PC ??

STILL looking for a PC with high enough specs for my camming and clip making. Found a couple of sites that seem good with regard to choice and service etc, but the PCs that have the highest specs for my needs (as per the computer advice threads on here) are either GAMING machines or OVERCLOCKED. They look great, they have great specs, but the price is pretty high compared to non-gaming/overclocked machines. Also can't seem to find any non-gamer/overclocked PCs that have a top processor included :/

So do I just get an expensive gaming/overclocked system? Which won't (shouldn't) need any upgrading for a good couple of years? OR do I go for a decent (but not high) specs machine at half the price and risk having to upgrade components within the first year?

    Thanks!

Go for a gaming pc.The more powerful it is the more sites you can split and more £ to be made.I'm on an i5 for 5 years, never needed a fix or replacement.I didn't upgrade as it was enough for what I needed but looking to get an i7 gaming pc next year. They're expensive indeed but the investment is worth and it will pay off sooner than you think if you split.Decent is just not enough for our job we need high.

Are you looking to get a laptop or a desktop? If you are going the desktop route, a cheaper option is to build your own computer. It sounds like it would be really complicated but it's actually relatively a simple process and you then you can build it exactly how you like it, and make sure it has all the specs you're looking for.

Desktop. I really can't get my head around the RAM and the different PCI slots etc. I would be able to build it easy if I could leave out the RAM! lol

I used computerplanet.co.uk and I love my desktop computer. It was £1500 ish very well spent and won't need anything upgraded/replaced for some time! I'm going to be buried in it too. Haha! It's the middle ground between prebuilt and do it yourself. You build it on the site and it only lets you choose compatible parts.

Thank you! I was looking at pcspecialist who do the same (build online). £1500 is very reasonable actually, I was hitting the £2k mark on pcspecialist before getting confused with RAM and closed down! LOL that you'll be buried with it

Holy smokes! What kind of spec are you building...

You can build a more than capable camming system for around £300... (not including monitor)

    Processor - AMD 83xx series - £120

Motherboard - AM3+ Any good brand cheap one - £50

    Ram - 8GB - £30

    PSU - 400w - £40

    Case - Cheap Case - £30

    Hard Drive - 60GB SSD - £30

    ------

    Total = £300

This is a perfectly acceptable PC for camming, you will happily be able to run all current settings without issue including some splitting etc. If you want more powerful go for the better CPU that is the key to building a cam PC. Don't waste money on graphics cards unless you are intending on editing video or gaming on the computer.

    Just my 2 pence...

    I am

I want something that I can splitcam on and edit video etc on. The specs you've listed are generally the same/lower than both my computers and neither work on Streamate. 60GB of storage is really low too, I'd use that in a day

Ok, well that was just for a dedicated camming pc, 60gb is more than enough to run the OS and a few programs obviously you can add a couple of 1TB non SSD drives for storage. As for the processor, I have cammed with the 720p settings on an old laptop with a i5-2430M which is a dual core 2.5GHz 35w processor from 4 years ago, sure it was using 90% of the CPU but it worked fine. The passmark on that processor is 3272, the FX83xx series passmark scores start at around 8000, it will certainly not struggle with SM or even splitting sites. As for editing video again the CPU is perfect for it, just add a decent graphics card (Quadro if you are really serious or just a mid range gaming one if not), add more RAM (min. 16GB, as a graphic designer I used to chew through 16...) But even with a £600 GPU and anothe £20 of RAM you are still under £1000. Even if you get a FX 95xx series CPU its only another £50. Even if you go and get a i7 5820k (passmark - 13,000) and get a 2011-3 motherboard you are only adding £400 to the build.

What system do you currently have and what one are you looking at getting?
