Default Learning to Dance While Working at a Non-Learner Friendly Club

I am a new dancer who is absolutely flabbergasted by how girls learn to dance on the job. I work in a club with almost entirely seasoned girls. And, yes, I do watch them and try to pick up on the dance moves. But it's really difficult to translate watching someone who knows what they are doing to trying to do something awkwardly for the first time while everyone is staring at you (there's little to no dead time with no customers).
I took one private pole dancing class and this helped a little, but it seemed more oriented towards teaching very athletic, modern-dance type moves. I am looking to learn very simplistic, small pole moves and mostly sexy floor work. Basically my goal is to not look like a complete noob and awkward AF while I'm up there.

Do you ladies have any suggestions? Do you know of any online gurus teaching floor work specifically for strippers? Should I continue with the private pole lessons?

Buy a pole for your home, buy several mirrors, put on some music and practice in the comfort of your home.

Looking good on stage is mostly a matter of doing the moves often enough that you go through them slowly and fluidly, so you really just need time. However, you can try out floor work moves at home to try and speed up the process. Check out the Instructional Video Thread: https://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sh...l-Video-Thread

While you give yourself time to learn some moves at home (I second buying a pole and using YouTube as a resource for move ideas), stick to slow & sensual moves at work. Use the pole as a prop instead of as a feature. Lean against it, touch your body, draw attention to your best features using your hands, and slink around the stage like you own the place. Play around with facial expressions if you're expressive (winking, small sexy smiles, pursing lips). If you're flexible, play around with showing that off on stage (splits, bending down to touch the floor and slowly standing back up, etc.).

Sometimes stages are set up in ways that make it tough on newbs. I've danced on some stages that were enormous, for example, which can be intimidating when your stage show isn't impressive (mine aren't). Every new stage I encounter takes some getting used to and determines my dancing style. If you're in a pit-style stage (where you're on the same level as your customers and have a half-wall separating you from the floor), then you'll dance far differently (because you'll have a divider to sit on top of / play around with) than you would on an elevated stage where you have to bend down to take tips. I always feel weird adjusting to new stages in new clubs. It takes time.

No matter what you do, though, remember that stage time is simply advertising time for selling dances. So when you get up there, focus on connecting with 2-3 potential buyers and hooking them into your energy. Look them in the eye, say hello or something cute / sweet / sexy, and dance for them like you're dancing for them alone. When your time on stage is coming to a close, ask them if they'd like you to join them when you get off stage, and then use that to flow into your hustle.

One last tip...in the beginning, I found that repetition was key for adding a new dance move to my repertoire. It's too overwhelming to add 5 moves at once. So when you're practicing at home, practice one or two sexy moves over and over and over again. That makes them much easier to remember once you're on stage. Otherwise, once you get up there, you'll probably just lapse into old habits because you don't have a muscle memory for any of the moves yet.

Thank you for the replies, everyone (:

Sadly, at this point and time, an at-home pole is not an option for me. I wish, though! So I will have to stick to learning floor work at home. Thanks for the link to the instructional vids, shanna dior.

Those are really good tips, charlie61. I will try practicing a couple moves tonight and try them out over the weekend! -fingers crossed-

^Use the wall to lean up against for practice. Or go to a playground at night and practice on the fireman's pole!

You got this, girl. Every single one of us had to fake it in the beginning. We all looked ridiculous when we started. It's a stripper rite of passage.
