    Default Sex Toys....safe or toxic

I went to a sex shop while visiting another city on vacation. I was going to buy a cute glittery jelly type dildo. The girl at the counter said "you'd have to put a condom on the toy if you are going to use it, the jells break down and come off inside of your body and are known to be toxic" I was like...WHAT?!

She suggested a silicone toy instead. I thought she was crazy and trying to upsell me till I got home and did some online research. Most of the jelly type dildos have phthlates in them, even though they are listed on the box as being phthlate free. There's no federal regulation on sex toys and the materials they are made of. I have several of these type of dildos and immediately threw them in the trash. I'm really worried, because I used those jelly toys daily...they were my go to toys! Did I permanently damage my vagina using these toys....how could I have not known, I feel so stupid for not researching this before hand. Here is an article about it https://www.reddit.com/r/sex/comment...efore_you_buy/

I ordered some vixskin dildos made of 100% medical grade silicone. Check this article out. Its very informative and give links to places sell phthlate free toys.

Yes, the above linked thread is very helpful.

Jelly toys are cheap and feel nice but they break down so quickly. They basically melt and you're left with a gooey sticky mess. Most toys will break down to some extent (and melt together if you store them touching each other) but medical grade silicone is best if you want something that feels realistic while being safe. Glass/pyrex toys can be fun too and you can even wash them in the dishwasher

I'm amazed that there's no sort of regulations preventing the sale of jelly toys. There's regulations for food we put in our mouth, why not for other parts of our bodies too? I don't think you permanently damaged your vagina, but the inner walls of your vagina are very absorbent, just like your mouth, so you probably took those chemicals into your body. I don't know much about the long term effects of that though.

Yes girl. I bought several dildos in the past and as soon as I opened the box it had some weird plastic rubber smell. It was so strong I was like nope if my nose can't take the smell I definitely can't put this in my vagina.

Sad there are no regulations and toys keep being made with these shitty materials. Especially considering how delicate the p*ssy is can't be putting chemical filled toys down there.

I, uh, I had a pink dildo that I liked using but it was packed away for a while after I moved. When I took it out of the box it smelled reallllly strongly like plastic. I washed it really well and got my lube out and started using it. Less than 5 minutes into it I was literally running to the bathroom to wash my privates off! It was burning so badly, I ended up being really red and sore down there for a couple days. It was HORRIBLE. I prefer glass and silicone toys now. Not only are they easier to clean but pet and human hair or fibers do not stick to them like the plastic/rubber ones. I've thrown out most of my toys now, I don't really use them anymore, but have kept the glass and silicone ones, because I love them so much and they don't end up hurting me.

Just make sure you never drop your glass toys and check them before using them. Any cracks or chips can cause damage!

    dildo2.jpgdildos.jpg

I just took the one picture on the right just now. I am going to show you something super gross.

The large dildo on the left in the second picture.....it is a Doc Johnson Jelly dildo. It used to be BLUE in color. I purchased it in 2013. It was WAYYYY too large for me, so luckily I never successfully used it. As you can see in the picture, it is now a beige/ brown color. It changed color over time, for some fucked up reason. It has ALWAYS smelled like rubber...it REEKS when I take it out of the box I have been storing it in. It even makes me fingers smell if I touch it. You can see in the first photo, the original blue color it used to be.

The smaller dildo in the second picture, is my brand new "Tex" toy from Vixen Creations. I had posted a thread 1-2 weeks ago about getting a new, smaller toy. I am VERY, VERY pleased with my purchase, even thought it was a $90 investment. Their toys are excellent, and I am glad I took the plunge to buy it....because it is much more safer, comfortable, and realistic.

Thank you, I have glass toys that I use for my ass and I have a few silicon toys that I am breaking out while I wait for my new shipment of silicon dongs to arrive. Its gonna be a long week without my trusty toys....I feel like I'm throwing away old friends....but I have to do it for my health.

I'm so glad that I got rid of my jelly toys before I started camming. Right now the only skeevy thing I have is my inflatable butt plug - it's latex. But it only goes in my butt so I'm not worried about transferring anything. It saved me so many UTIs. I still get them once in a while but usually when I do sth really stupid.
Now I can do anal with a toy, wash it, disinfect it and put it in my pussy.
Phthalates and burning are one thing but porosity is IMHO just as important. No one can convince me that something that can grow mold is a good material for a sex toy.
All the jelly and TPR things I had got gross before I threw them out. My first silicone dildo, Tantus Acute is >5 y.o. and still going strong, just as pretty purple as when it arrived.

The sad thing about glass toys is they can break in half if you drop them in the sink. RIP first dildo.

I wish I liked my glass toy. It's this one:

I just find it like...too big or just uncomfortable. I don't really like the protruding blue swirls around it.
I'd like to get the pink heart one by the same brand, but I dunno. I just think it's pretty.

This is the one I have. I love it! I just use the smooth side and use the other side as a handle. I like smooth toys, I don't like all the ridges and bumps that a lot of toys have.

ive just bought some glass ones today.

im very sensitive down there and keep having reocurring issues meaning no work and no $$$

I have a realistic dildo that i wouldnt describe as jelly, but i noticed the other week that it has changed shape! and a cut appeared in it! since ive stopped using it ive had no downstairs issues so i think it may have been my lovely big cock dildo causing the problems!

That's so scary! If you don't like how hard the glass ones are, definitely go for a new toy that is medical grade silicone. I used to have a "not really jelly but definitely not silicone" dildo and it was terrible. The amount you save by going cheap is just not worth it... plus silicone lasts forever.

This one is my favorite. The hooked side is fantastic for squirting if it's something you offer or would like to get into doing on cam.

My Icicles glass toy is my favorite. I like my jelly toy but they are so cheap. they are not water resistant like they say. And the cap that holds the battery is very cheap it always chips. I rarely use it for penetration mainly for vibrator action. For jellys I'm gonna have an exp date of 3 months use then trash. They cost like 10 anyway.

I don't like a lot of bumps and ridges on my glass toys so I went looking for completely smooth ones.

I have a few Ali Express borosilicate glass toys...I know how some of you feel about Ali Express and toys from China however, these are high quality, there are no bubbles inside of the glass. Another bonus, they are cheap as hell, and unlike other types of merchandise, these ship FAST.

Here are the ones I have, (you can click on the pictures and they link directly to Ali Express, they are not affiliate links):
