What have you used to get rid of your scars? I'm currently using mederma and I'm not really seeing any difference.

My surgeon told me that the only scar treatment that has been clinically proven effective for diminishing scars are silicone sheets, like Scar Away. He specifically said Bio Oil and Mederma are popular but ineffective.
have you tried bio oil? it's not gonna make them magically disappear, but it will make them lighter

What kinds of scars?
Rose-hip oil and scar massage (look it up). And using a dermal roller needle thing.
I always used mederma. My old scars are white.

Thanks for the tips, ladies. I too have been thinking of how I plan to get rid of scars. I have head of the silicone sheets. Also, hopefully genetics is in your favor. My mom had a BL about 9-10 years ago with lollipop scars. During a recent visit I pretty much asked her to flash me and the scar or indention wasn't even there anymore.I was shocked and considering we have the same skin and tone I was relieved. She did have a bit of discoloring under the other boob but I think that's due to a cyst she had or something.
Believe In Your Brand

I've been using Bio-Oil. When I have time, I mix in jojoba, argan, and castor oil. I really want to try those silicone sheets tuesdaymarie mentioned....may order some on Amazon tomorrow.
I have a few scars and I'm pretty sure its the combination of hydration and genetics. Lasers may work too but I haven't had the experience.

+1. rose hip oil is especially amazing for acne scars! i'd also like to add emu oil to the list. harder to come by, but sold in health food stores..i like the brand "thunder ridge". its a transdermal carrier, penetrates the skin really deep! used in conjunction with other oils, it helps carry them deep in the skin to nourish and heal ( I'm sounding like an ad right now, but its true!)
everyone else has already given great advice, but i thought i'd throw that in there as well. not sure what kinds of scars you are looking to heal.
i would also advise against bio oil. i used to use it, but one day i took a look at the ingredients and yikes!!

I use silicone sheets. Meditac I think is what it's called. I got it on amazon and other reviewers liked it because it stays on better. I also used arnica Montana gel around it for bruising. After week three the scar is in early maturation stages so you can use vitamin e oil and start back on multivitamins. I think 1200 ius is the recommended dose for scars. I ingest vitamin e, arnica Montana, use neosporin on one spot with a small bandaid, then cover the entire scar with meditac.
Keep in mind, no studies have shown silicone gel, vitamin e oil to help in clinical trials. The silicone sheets are LONG TERM treatments. So be ready to use them for two months then revisit the idea of if they are helping. Personally I dint know if scar away is better. Some say "professional grade" and they do say that the more silicone on the sheet, the better. I don't know how these grades are actually measured though. A lot of times you can't assume you get what you pay for with these products, you've got to research the actual quality.
Usually I do go to Amazon and search out reviews. Especially reviews with photos. It gives you a more tangible way to make a decision on scar treatment. Best of luck.
I use Scaraway and it faded some reddish scars i had to a very, very light pink. It took a while but it was worth it for me. I use coconut oil too so that might've helped.
I believe that the presence of oil is more important than the type of oil. Scars are often in places where the body doesn't produce much oil (e.g. forearms, stomachs, thighs). It seems like any type of oil would be useful for keeping the skin moisturized and pliable while it heals.
If I had a scar I wanted to help heal, I'd combine a couple of oils. Probably a high-quality vitamin E oil (they're usually mixed with a cheap oil, which is why some products are much more expensive than others), and an oil with vitamin C, like rose-hip or pomegranate. If you want to get crazy, you can break open capsules of supplements and add those to your oils - like pantothenic acid (b5). Then I'd use the oil to massage the scar (research scar massage).
Has anyone tried removing really old scars with oils or creams? Would it still be effective?

vitamin E oil all the way!! i gained 80 pounds when i was preggo and used vitamin e oil twice a day and have zero stretch marks. i also used it once when some bitch at the club burned my cheek with a cigarette and the scar was gone after 3 days. this stuff is so great for your skin!

It depends on what sort of scars they are. From what I've researched, it seems lasers & punch-excision are the most effective removal methods (these are medical/surgical procedures though, and much more expensive than topical products.) I can't wait to finally get rid of my scars (years & years of acne before I got my shit together)
