Default Help! My legs got way too big from doing squats :(

I have been doing squats for about a year and I don't like how muscular my thighs have gotten. My boyfriend really liked the way my legs looked and would constantly call me chicken legs before so I was like, alright, I'll keep this up for a little bit longer and maybe they will grow on me and it won't be so bad.

But I do not like it at all. I had a thigh gap before and I prefer that much, much more. A lot of women and men might disagree, but thigh gaps are so pretty and feminine to me. I am also very petite so it just fit my body better.

I have stopped working out my legs altogether, but my thigh muscles are not really going down much at all.

Is there anything I can do to speed up the process or do I just have to deal with it now?

I know if you stop working out a muscle, it will go down but I am not sure how long that will take or if my thigh muscles will even go down completely.

are you doing weighted squats?? if so, just do 10 or 5 pounds while you squat, or squat with just body weight. I'm not expert, but i hear that doing low intensity/high reps keeps you leaner, whereas squatting with a lot of weight bulks you more. also, i was under the impression that a thigh gap had more to do with hip placement than anything?

I started out with just my body weight and even that added some bulk to me. I build muscle in my legs crazy fast. I think it is because of genetics and because the women in my family have bigger legs.

Thigh gaps do have to do with hip placement, but I also built up a lot of muscle on my groin/inner thighs. (Not sure what that muscle is called).

Cardio is going to help you--elliptical machine, jogging, dancing, etc. Stretching will also help. It won't be immediate though. What you're effectively trying to do is reduce muscle mass and that only happens by not working those muscles out as much. If you stop working out altogether, that muscle will all turn to fat though. So, low intensity/high reps will help as Simone suggested, but you also need cardio and stretching to stay in shape without adding bulk. You can also reduce protein in your diet and increase carbs, but again--be careful that you don't start storing that as fat.

OP, this happened to me too from squatting heavy as well-it's additive to watch that booty grow lol (I didn't mind it, until I couldn't lift anymore and my legs were still big, but got less and less toned without maintenance). An ex fitness comp' model friend recommended Pilates to tone and light weights/higher reps and/or resistance bands etc. Of course, cardio will help in general. If you are desperate you could look into body contouring, but if it's all muscle it may not be effective.
