Default Laser Hair Removal - Need to be hair free every weekend

    Hi Guys,

I'm looking into getting laser hair removal so eventually I'm hair free and always ready for work. What I'm worried about is what it will look like whilst getting the treatments. Currently I work every weekend and need to be hair free so can't wait for hair to fall out etc.

I've heard heaps of different things about laser. Someone told me their hair fell out that day they had it done and didn't start growing back until 4 weeks later ready for their second treatment session. Others have said the hair doesn't fall out for 10 or so days! Even if I got it done on a Monday, I'd have 5 days max til I need to be hair free for work. Does anyone know what to do?
Can you shave after a laser session if the hair hasnt all fallen out?

    Help!

One of my custies just had this done on his back and it looks gnarly. It's been a week and it's still obvious that there's serious irritation. Have you tried waxing? that might be a good start. depending on how hairy you are, results can last weeks. Also, if you're really dead set on laser, wouldn't it be better to save up for a few months & pull some extra shifts in order to have some fall back money in case you can't work for a week or two?

You can still shave before the hair falls out entirely. For me, I'm hair free right after a treatment for about a day, and then it starts growing back before fully falling out a week later. As long as your skin isn't hella irritated, shaving it then is fine. You'll also probably have hair coming in a few weeks before the next treatment - not as thick, but you'll still have to shave it.

You should be fine. It's not like waxing where you have to let hair grow out between sessions. You can keep up your normal shave-whenever-it's-necessary routine while getting treatment. And after even one treatment, the hair will be much thinner and easier to shave.

The only problem would be if you're really sensitive and irritated afterward. Schedule your appointments so you're not working for at least a couple days after treatment to give your skin a rest.

Does anyone want to share any other experiences with laser?

I have very dark coarse leg and bikini hair. I wax every 2-3 weeks while working. I am only hair free for about a week and a half and then it starts coming back in. I also have PCOS which causes hair on my upper lip and chin. I would like to get all those areas lasered off.

Currently I can not shave my bikini area because my hair is so thick and it causes ingrowns but maybe after a session or two it would be easier to shave between laser sessions?

Also, I know I can't tan while doing laser but can I use a self tanner?

I have done my underarms and lip (need more sessions there) and am planning to do Brazilian starting maybe next month or so as I plan to go back to dancing right after the holidays. You must avoid the sun and can not shave for some time before as well as after but the shaving ban is much less time. The self-tanner I would think would be ok but it is dependent on your skin and I would ask the person doing the laser to be safe. My underarms I did about three years ago because the skin was so sensitive it would literally inflame when I shaved, and break out onto blisters. (A college roommate used my razor one time, giving me a nasty infection cause she was a fucking pig but that's another story). I did about 10-12 sessions. I would do 2 or 3 more sessions just for maintenance and to kill the last few hairs. I Still have to shave my underarms about 3 times a year or so because I still get about 5 or six hairs growing but they are so thin you can't see them until they get about 4 inches long. Basically, Homer Simpson's Head is under my arm. I have done 4 sessions on my lip and the hair is less but I need to do about 8 sessions or so more for sure. I am really excited about the Brazilian. Anyone in the So Fla area who is interested PM me and I will give you the name of the place that I go to. They have really good specials for like 80-120 a month.

You can use self-tanner up to 6 weeks before your next appointment. So in other words, you can use it, but barely.

    Thanks for the info!

That's what makes it hard for me to figure out when I should do the laser because dancing without a tan and having to shave instead of wax, makes me pretty nervous!

Has anyone gotten laser hair removal on legs with moderate psoriasis? I'm just curious.

I've got very fair hair on very fair skin and it didn't work much for me. I tried it as an alternative to waxing, but the ingrowns were just as bad coz my hair is too fine to break through my skin. I switched to shaving and got less ingrowns. I'm going to give electrolysis a go and see if it works

I have actually heard the lighter your skin the worse your results. I am "olive" I guess; so it has been pretty good for me.
