    WWW Agencies & tattoos

Does anyone here work through agencies is it better to work through an agency? I have googled and found some but some personal recommendations would be nice. Also, for instance, bestdancers.com does not take girls who are heavily tattooed. And I was also turned away by two clubs in St Maarten because I have too many tattoos.

Is anyone here heavily tattooed? Which countries/clubs does not have issues with that?

I have never travelled and danced before so sorry for all the questions but I want to make sure I'm in a safe environment when I'm in a foreign country. I am super excited to travel and work though, but I am finding that the clubs that I have approached are very slow to respond for some reason. Could it be my nationality?

Clubs in general are very slow to reply. Your best bet at getting a response is going in person, but obviously that's not ideal for a traveling dancer who doesn't want to spend the money to get somewhere, only to get turned down. It sounds like you're emailing clubs (given your slow responses), so your next best bet would be to call when the club is open, ideally shortly after it's opened because the club is unlikely to be super busy.

As for your nationality, I mean, maybe it's an issue? If you can't legally work in the countries you're contacting clubs in, they may just be ignoring you because there's no point in replying. It might help to explain that you're able to get a working holiday visa or have citizenship or whatever it is that entitles you to work in their country, just to assuage that.

Tattoos are going to be a big stumbling block in general too for sure, though obviously it varies -- moreso by club than country, so I would still reach out to any club you're interested in because you never know.

    Good luck!

If the clubs you're contacting are in Europe it probably is because of your nationality tbh. I don't know any club that would allow a non EU citizen. But yeah it might be better to get in contact with a couple agencies and ask them to find you a club that doesn't care about tattoos or nationality.

Thanks guys. The club I work at now assist foreign girls with visas etc. So I assumed other clubs would do the same, but of course I would arrange my own to go to a foreign country. I will try and call, maybe that would be better.

Are you at Mavericks? Aren't most of the girls there foreign? The thing is there are so many European girls willing to work in Europe so clubs there don't need to help foreign girls because they don't depend on them

Depending on the country -- and honestly, it's probably the vast majority of them and your club is just extremely generous -- most clubs will not help with visas, simply because unless you can get a working holiday visa or are otherwise able to work in the country on your own terms, they can't actually help you since very few countries give out visas for dancers anymore.

From a quick google search, as a South African, I believe you're only eligible for working holiday visas for Australia and the UK. Definitely double check that, but it looks like you're going to be pretty limited on where will be willing to hire you before you book travel. No club will commit to hiring you if you don't/can't have the right to work, so if you're really set on dancing abroad, you're either stuck with only Australia and the UK, or you have to take the risk of paying for travel/accommodation and potentially not getting hired/working illegally.

The clubs I worked at in Melbourne, Australia had a handful of foreign girls, a few other girls were heavily tattooed. If you do end up going you'd probably have luck getting hired at Kittens. I remember they had twins from France dancing there at one point. Considering it's technically illegal for you to dance without a work visa (which you can apply for and pay $, lots of foreigners apply for a general 6 month working visa) then getting them to commit via email won't happen. It'll only be when you show up in person you'll find if they're willing to let u work under the table.

Yup, there is a large number of local girls but a lot of foreign girls also. But I hear you, makes sense.

Agencies are mostly parasitic IME. Save yourself a headache and do your own booking.

A lot of clubs in Europe prefer to work with agencies and therefore won't reply to you or even look at your email if you contact them directly.
