Dizzy Getting started: Tech requirements? Chromebook?

Hi, Ladies! I've been lurking on these forums for the last couple of weeks and finally decided to join up. I intend to start camming as soon as I get internet at home and can get the basic equipment together. Watching you all set and reach some pretty incredible goals has given me the motivation I need to give this a go, because I'm dirt broke and on my own and trying to go back to school. I have some questions for getting started and would really appreciate the help.

So I bought a webcam and am waiting for it to arrive. I ordered the Logitech Pro C920 for only $50 on Cyber Monday. But I'm wondering if I'm going to need a new computer in order to successfully cam. Everyone here is always talking about PCs and Macs, but I have a Chromebook (Acer Chromebook C720-2827.) I'm about as far from tech-savvy as you can get so I have a lot to learn. What is it specifically that I should be looking for in a camming computer? Here are the specs to what I have now:

My other question is about internet. Again, I'm pretty clueless about this stuff. What should I be looking for in an internet provider? My area has a number of providers, but I'm trying to choose between Cox (I had their most basic internet last years and didn't have issues) or AT&T U-Verse. I already have the equipment I need for Cox set-up, but I think AT&T is fiber and therefore better? I have no idea. Help me out, please!

Last thing: good website options for newbies and people without the best tech to start out with?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure what site you work on but if its SM this is from their help area:

If your processor is an i5 or an i7 (or an equivalent speed) and you have at least 3 or 4 Gb of RAM, you can run the encoder!

    Checking Your Camera
There are many different types of cameras you can use to stream. Your camera’s resolution and fps (frames per second) rate are the two most important factor to achieving high quality, crisp video.

Your camera may have several resolutions, or just one. To find your camera’s resolution options, read the instruction manual, the box, or check the manufacturer’s website.

If your camera has a resolution of 640×360 or 640×480, you can use the HD Encoder. For best results, a camera that can stream in a high quality widescreen (16:9) is preferred.

If you have a resolution of 1280×720 and your camera is capable of 30fps, you may be able to run the HD720 profiles.

    Checking Your Internet
When testing your internet, turn off any streaming music, video, downloads, and other internet sites.

    Open speedtest.net.
Using the map, select the a location in Seattle, WA in the USA (image). This is where the Streamate servers are located.
The speedtest should begin automatically, or click “Begin Test.”
Once the speedtest completes, it will list your Ping time, Download speed, and Upload speed. You will need an Upload speed of at least 1 Mbps to run the FMLE External Encoder. If your Upload speed is near 2.5 Mbps, you may be able to run the HD720 profiles.
Looking at the specs of your computer you will def need a new one. Here are a few threads that may help you pick out a computer:

Look at what upload speed each provider offers, I'd go with who provides the best upload speed.

Alot of sites offer a few different ways to broadcast. With SM you can choose different options from the drop down box or you can use the Encoder which provides different settings based on what you computer can handle. So if your computer can't handle the Encoder you may still be able to work on the site, you'll just have to choose lower settings.

Thanks for the reply! I'm definitely gonna dig through those threads. I haven't actually signed up with a cam site yet... not sure which one to start with. Any suggestions for a good quality site that is newbie-friendly would be appreciated. I've been trying to look through the forums to figure out how all the different popular sites work and how they differ, but it's a lot of information and a lot of industry and tech lingo that I don't yet understand.

The technology aspects of this are going to be a steep learning curve for me, as I'm a complete computer know-nothing!

Edit: Is it possible for me to start off using my Chromebook? I'd hate to charge an expensive laptop for the sole purpose of camming before I've even tried it. I adore my Chromebook and wouldn't bother buying another laptop if it weren't for camming needs. While I'm hoping it's not the case, there's always the chance that I won't like/be good at it, so it'd be great if I could try it out before investing in more equipment. Will it work?

I'm not sure how a Chromebook will work but I don't think it will hurt to try. The popular big box camsites are Streamate, AdultWork, MyFreeCams, Chaturbate, Naked, ifriends, ImLive, Cams, Webcams, and LiveJasmin.

Streamate, Adultwork(you'll need a passport in order to work on this site), Cams, MyFreecams and Chaturbate are the top 4 sites that alot of ladies work on. Some models work on Naked, Ifriends, Imlive, Livejasmin but alot of models tend to avoid those sites because they don't have much traffic, have low payout percentage, don't cover chargebacks and or can be kind of shady.

Streamate, Adultwork, Cams, ifriends, ImLive, Webcams, and LiveJasmin are all private-based sites. Myfreecams and Chaturbate are token-based sites. I would try out SM and Cams first. I don't think it will hurt to try out all of the sites though. It's good to try out different sites so that you can see which one's; you like, work for you and you make the most money on.

Here's a good thread to read since you're just starting out.....Starting Place For Cam Girls. Also every site I listed has their own thread on here so if you want to learn more about each site you can search them on here. If you don't know how to search yet here's a good thread that will help....How to do a search on Stripperweb.

I thought that chromebooks couldn't download programs. If so you'd have to use the browser based version of the sites. (If it will run flash, guess it must do that, right?)

Do they come with a webcam? If not you wouldnt be able to install one I don't think without being able to install drivers. Not sure though.

You could give it a try and see.

I started out with an acer chrome book
    Here's what I'll say
It's just a start up computer and make sure to get your own web cam tho the one that comes with it sucks
I used it on cams and SM till I could get a better one it paid for it self in a week
I was able to split cam too.
But you can't download any programs so you can stream hd so that sucked
And you can't mess with your webcam setting so that kinda sucked but it was good enough to make over $1000 using it lol so I say go for it try it out and if you make good income buy a way better one cause you'll only get so far on it.
