    Default Scott Weiland -- RIP

Haven't posted here in a while - just the occasional lurk. But this is such a bummer I had to post something.

STP isn't the greatest club music (I dunno I guess you could throw sex type thing up there and it would work ok, but most of their stuff like interstate love song, etc. isn't really dance friendly), but man is it good music. Not sure if any fans on the board -- a lot of you may be too young to know these guys -- but just to say it -- RIP brother.

For anyone who is bored and has 5 minutes -- go to youtube and search "STP - Acoustic - Atlanta" -- first hit is a recording of Scott and the guitar player (Dean Deleo) doing an in-studio version of "Atlanta" at WAAF (a great hard rock station in boston). It is just two guys and an acoustic guitar -- no other equipment, no nothing. In my view one of the greatest unplugged performances ever done -- just an amazingly beautiful take on the song.

    Sigh.

Oh my, STP helped make high school much fun for me. Album number 4 was one of STP greatest albums I used to play "Atlanta" every day before getting up for school.

I heard about this too on the radio this afternoon. It literally ruined my day I'm a huge STP fan and I dance to many of their songs (my favorite one is Lady Picture Show). He was found dead on his tour bus, I guess due to cardiac arrest. I really sucks because I'll never get see him play live RIP Scott!

Sad, very sad. I guess we all guessed right as to the cause. Similar sentiments were articulated about Kurt Cobain by his daughter daughter IIRC

No idea who this guy is but I liked the letter, she sounds fair and like a good writer. She ended it excellently.

Thanks Nikki Fox for showing us this article. Personally, I am not shocked by Mary Weiland's claims because it seems truthful to what he wrote in his biography. He could not really love anyone else after falling in love with China White and Coke. He tried his best but addiction just got the best of him. However, I really would love to know what his first wife, , Janina Castenada, was thinking about this. He had really messed up her life with drugs, cheating, and booze during the 1990s. Plus she was the inspiration for STP's "number 4" album. She was the "Sour Girl" but I guess he made tons of "Sour Girls" in his lifetime. It is very sad

Was listening to STP last night and today. Still saddened over this.

His wife sounds very bitter, but I do not blame her at all. I hope she and the kids can find peace with all this some day.

I thought that the letter from Mary Forsberg (his 2nd wife) in Rolling Stone was very well done. After reading it I remember thinking that scott really blew it to lose a woman like that. I never read her or his biographies, but I think she had some drug problems too - though clearly she pulled herself out of it and seems to put family first (which is something that has to be respected).

The world is definitely a poorer place when it loses an artist like this, whether it is scott weiland, or layne staley or robin Williams, or kurt cobain or whomever. in the case of robin and kurt I think it was more about mental illness than drug abuse. but in the case of scott and layne, it was predominantly heroin -- all self-inflicted.

And so in that regard Mary's letter is right -- if you are using, you have to try to stop. Especially if you have got kids -- there is just too much collateral damage. I don't know if she is bitter so much as sad that her kids never really got to have a dad - and that wasn't because their dad was killed in Afghanistan or something, but rather simply because he put more energy into getting high than being with them. and she is right -- that blows.

^^Yeah, she's bitter, heart-broken, exhausted, angry, and devastated all at once it sounds like.

90's rock will always be a part of my life, and this loss is huge. It's like the end of an era is here. STP was like the lead band of heavy grunge alternative rock IMO. Aside from Nirvana and Soundgarden.

I'm so mad. I had the chance to see them play live this past September at a festival that was near me, and didn't fkn go. Grrrr. They were one of the bands I wanted to see live, and didn't get the chance.
