Default Is this a dumb reason to switch clubs

I recently stopped showing up for my shifts at a club that I consistently make good money at. The staff continuously forgets to stop my VIP room hours, however that's not why I left. I left because I feel the club forces us to degrade ourselves in subtle ways that other clubs don't. For example, we are required to get fully nude on stage no matter how little money is on our set, and no matter who is or isn't sitting at our rack. In other words, if no one is at the stage at all or someone decides to tip you $1 and walk away, you still have to get nude.

I'm not sure if many girls care that much but I find this to be extremely degrading and a terrible feeling. It sucks because everything else about the club is great...the management, the music, the girls....but there's something so very shitty about removing your panties for a fucking dollar (or less).

The one other way we have to degrade ourselves is that we aren't allowed to talk back to customers. Obviously, rude encounters shouldn't be a regular issue, but we all know how much rude, cheap men love strip clubs. NO other club I've ever worked at got me in trouble for responding rudely to rude comments...but almost every time I told someone off for something that was clearly rude, I got called back into management's office because someone complained. This is with no name-calling or swearing on my part...I simply return the attitude back to the customer, or walk away in the middle of their sentence. These are things that have gotten me in trouble at this club and this club only.

I dance in Portland where there are many other clubs to choose from, however I still find myself missing this club from time to time, especially because the money is consistent. It's slow af at most other clubs in town.

Am I being too picky about little details or am I right to find these things degrading/leave the club for this?

I'm a huge proponent in trying out new clubs and think any reason is a good one to do it -- you never know if it's going to be better, and this industry is great in that you can basically always go back if that's not the case. The things that would most annoy me about your club would be the VIP forgetfulness and the forced nudity. I don't tend to get sassy with customers because I worked in customer service for half a decade, so fake niceness is ingrained in me no matter how rude someone gets, but I could see how that would be frustrating. I would definitely try out a few different clubs to potentially not have to deal with those shenanigans, but if this ends up being the best money club by far, well, none of those are total deal breakers for me. They're allowed to be for you though!

I know Portland has TONS of clubs to choose from, so many have you tried out? If it's only a handful, well, maybe you should try out a few more and you'll find another club that's equally or almost as consistent but with less bs.

Sadly, clubs with good money do often have more bs to deal with than those that are less consistent. Their owners/management know that they can get away with being more demanding because dancers will generally still want to work where the money is best.

So, you may try out a bunch of different clubs and find that this one has the best money by a long shot or by not a lot little -- however only you can make the decision on if it's worth putting up with their rules for the better earnings.

Whatever you do just don't burn bridges with that club in case you do ever want to go back. Definitely try more clubs but you never know if you'll find another one where you make good money at and if that doesn't happen you'll probably be really missing that other club. In my opinion not showing up to shifts anymore is a way to burn a bridge at a club.. so maybe tell them that you're going out of town for a little while when really you're just shopping for new clubs to work at.

The whole getting naked for no money thing is pretty insignificant to me but that's probably because I've worked at a lot of nude clubs where we HAD to get naked on stage no matter what. It's a nude club so the managers wants the girls actually nude on stage.. and that makes sense to me. Plus you don't have to take the panties all the way off and spread eagle on stage lol. Whenever it's really slow or nobody is tipping at a club like that I just pull them down a little and keep my legs closed.

I would be annoyed about the whole not talking back to customers thing.. but not enough to never go back to the club. It's not fair but they just don't want to piss off their customers. Plus it doesn't really do us any good to snap back at rude customers (even tho I do that too) so just smiling and walking away might be something to get used to.

I mean if this was a club that you didn't make good money at I would say fuck it and find something better. But if you make really good money there I think these things are insignificant. But that's just my opinion..everyone is different and if these things are enough to make you uncomfortable and unhappy when you're working at that club then don't go back. You just never know how it'll turn out when you go club hunting. You may find clubs that have way more issues that you really cannot deal with and then you'll probably be really missing this other club.

Start wearing a watch. Shop around but go back to that club every once in a while so you don't get taken off the roster. They seem like little things but by all means try someplace else.

Does this club pay you to dance? If you are an employee who receives a paycheck from the club, then you've got very little recourse to change things. If you are an Independent Contractor, the laws in Oregon changed recently. IC dancers can pretty much do whatever they want in regards to conversation with customers and stage performance. You may wish to remind your manager about HB 3059 AKA "Stripper Bill of Rights." The bill clearly outlines that unless the club is paying you at least minimum wage, they can't direct your interactions with customers or your stage performance.

The hotline is not yet set up to report the club for violations, but will be ready by early January.

Since you are considering changing clubs anyway, why not just bring up HB 3059 to your manager when he calls you out on not putting up with harassment from customers or not getting nude when you don't feel like it?

I worked on this bill and lobbied the Oregon State congress personally. This is law now. Find the contents of the bill here: https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/201...verview/HB3059

I read the contents of the bill in the link you posted, all i'm seeing is a way to complain about the club. Not that clubs can't control everything about dancers interactions with customers. Care to explain like i'm 5?

Yes, they are kind of minor reasons if you are making good, consistent money, Wear watch. Ignore the panty rule, what are they going to do about it? Fire you? Fine you? Are you a big enough earner to fight back?? As far as being rude to customers- it seems like they are trying to keep the club classy. Unless someone is trying to physically harm you - you can tactfully respond and walk away.
