Was the first one that came to mind.
Grace Jones put one of those macho co actors in the hospital when filming a Conan movie, I forget which one (ETA but pretty sure it was Stallone he he)*. And one hell of a singer.
*ETA later no it was her man Dolph Lundgren who put Stallone in the hospital, she put some Conan extras in though

Yes, go see Hidden figures. Hidden figures came out on Christmas! Three black women as mathematician who help land the first man on the moon. It's a true story and Katherine Johnson (who is 98 ) lived to see her story told!
For TV there's Isa Rae's insecure! I binge watched the entire first season and it is AMAZING! I've heard awkward black girl is also really good. Both are written by and star Isa Rae.
I second how to get away with murder and scandal.
Marvel's Luke Cage had some strong black women although the story is about Luke Cage.
28 days later costars a badass black woman, but the lead is a white guy.
Chewing gum is a British TV show with an another awkward black woman lead which is also written by the lead actress. I like insecure better though.

BTW, Hidden Figures beat Star Wars in ticket sales.

Viola Davis is in a lot of black female lead movies.
even if she is not the lead role she is not playing small parts that make her look bad either.

Hattie McDaniel is the first black woman who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 1940.... this event did not happened again until Whoopi Goldberg in 1991.

Gimme The Loot is pretty dope. It's about a pair of graf writers, and one of them is a young black woman. The trailer here plays up the romance aspect, but it's a lot more subtext, and definitely not what the main plot line is.

For those comic fans:
Everyone should check out "Torchy Brown". In fact, Torcy Brown was created by one of the first African-American comic book creators, Jackie Ormes. Torchy Brown was a feisty and independent burlesque dancer who fought against the ills of society. Often she would work as nurse by day and burlesque dancer by night. She fought against racism, sexism, animal abuse, child abuse, and poverty with class. Here is a write up both creator and her creation, Torchy Brown. Enjoy

Yes a 1000 times! This is what I'm talking about. We need more story lines that don't center around people because they're of color. But more about people who just happen to be poc in creative roles. I love dark films too. And those are great actors in this one. Thank you for sharing this.

Yes! You're welcome. And I agree 100% that we need MORE. While I definitely look forward to Hidden Figures and other movies that showcase black excellence, I want to see black women just being black women. Like, there's so much more to me than my skin color. Can we "normalize" blackness, please? (for lack of a better expression)

Ok.
Hope y'all don't mind me posting, but I think this is a good place for this.
Thank you.!

She is consider the darkest woman in the world, and was tease, but there is something about her that makes her look like she is one of the most powerful women in the world.
Here is her story.

^^I wouldn't say she is the darkest. Models like Alek Wek and Grace Bol are just as dark, if not darker. But it's not a competition, so that's kind of irrelevant.

Just found this on Netflix, Chewing Gum. Kinda reminds me of Insecure but British and way sillier. But soooo good.

I've been watching this, but I just don't have the drive to finish it. I get that the girl is supposed to be a mess (and it's written by the starring actress) but damn it, I want to see her win for once lol.
Insecure was way better imo. Isa and Molly both had their wins *and* losses. It gave me in incentive to keep watching.
