Default 6 day water fast? Has anyone tried this?

I have been wanting to try a 6 day water fast, where I would not eat any solids for 6 days and drink nothing but 2 gallons of water per day.

It can flush out your system and sort of "reset" it in a way.

What is your opinion on this? Does it sound too dangerous? I have not heard about or read about anyone dying from this. Just insane hunger pains, confusion, even passing out (yikes).

The reason why I want to try this is not because I think I need to lose weight. I have a digestive disorder so I get insane stomach cramps and bloating every time I try to eat solids; so once in a while I have to go on an all liquid diet for a while to give my digestive system a rest. The pain gets too intense to handle. I have never just drank water though.

I want to see if water fasting could possibly have a more long-term affect at cleaning out my system and I also heard that it can help with psychological disorders such as depression.

I don't consider fasting inherently unhealthy, but I think a six-day water fast is setting yourself up for negative consequences. You've posted before about disordered eating, and a six-day fast is difficult to get through for many people. Not trying to patronize you, but I think you should consider that you might be setting yourself up for perceived failure with this. A lot of people work their way up to longer fasts, so I do not think you should go straight to this. I would really recommend you look into intermittent fasting though, which is a much less extreme form of fasting that comes with a lot of benefits.

If you do end up fasting regardless, I'd recommend you consider keeping broth on hand in case your electrolytes get wonky and you feel faint or have muscle cramps. It's easier to fast for extended periods if you're first keto adapted too, IMO.

I would go first with intermitting fasting skip a meal other week skip a day.
And as for full fasting you have to know time, moon is important do not underestimate that. People fast for so long before spring, now is a winter. We are animals who's freak out on everything.
I had bloating myself, sugar problems too. I cant eat carbs too much, sugar going up and after drops down i can feel that roller coster.
So what i did, i made a bone broth I drunk it 3 times per day with collagen peptides it is also nourishing and detoxifing.
Bone broth can repair and fix your gut.fat in broth will lubricate your gut from inside . And good news fat does not make you fat. Also i switched eating only localy grown meats th y are so delishious, tasty, healthy.
i eat keto diet, i dont eat wheat and refine d carbs mostly healthy fats. Feels good!

no that doesn't sound healthy AT ALL, or helpful. all you're doing is essentially starving yourself and imbalancing and heavily diluting all your minerals and electrolytes..especially if you already have gut health problems, plz be very careful. i really agree with the above about bone broth, it does wonders to heal a leaky or unhealthy stomach.

Not the same type of extreme but I did a three day water fast, In certain religions they do 4 day fasts but I don't believe i've ever heard of a 6 day. If you are truly doing it for detoxing reasons I don't see the issue. Whatever you do DO NOT workout excessively. Light yoga at the most. It's all mental really, I stopped getting stomach pains after the 1st day. Your going to be out of energy and not want to do anything probably after the second day.

There actually have been studies that found links between fasting and improved immune response, so it's not always a bad idea. Many doctors actually study fasting and its positive effects--check out Dr. Fung's videos on it. But I'm not sure this will help your digestive issues, Iva, since the condition you thought you had is often triggered by prolonged periods of not eating. I wrote in one of your other threads that I had similar problems, and they really have improved with a primarily keto (low carb and high *healthy* fat) diet and intermittent fasting (which can be a fasting window as shorts as 16 hours, then an open feeding window for eight). I would only really recommend a six-day fast for someone who has practiced with shorter fasts first and needs to lose weight, not to try to reset gastro issues.

If you want to lose weight you should not starve yourself. If you don't eat for even 3 days your body goes into starvation mode. Your metabolism slows down tremendously (you want a fast metabolism if you're looking for weight loss) and your body starts to break down proteins in your muscles in order to get energy. This is just a really unhealthy way to try to lose weight and it will only damage your body rather than having any benefits.

It is definitely not just a 'mental' thing and it won't 'reset' your body. You're going to stress multiple systems in your body and it is really detrimental. Eating a diet of mostly fruits, veggies and fish plus a lot of water can help you detox and clean out your system in a much healthier way.

Please don't starve yourself ladies it is not good for you lol.

Starvation mode is a myth, from the studies I've read. Fasting isn't inherently unhealthy. Extreme caloric restriction actually has worse side effects than straight out fasting. Fasting can improve your blood glucose, insulin response, and immune system, among other benefits. The "starvation mode" myth was propagated by a study that had to do with extreme caloric restriction.

Again, I don't think multiple-day fasting is the best solution for Iva, but fasting can be great for the right person.

It is not a myth it's basic science. We need glucose to survive and cutting it out completely causes our bodies to lower our metabolism in order to conserve energy and once our glucose is used up the body turns to protein in the muscles to get more energy. There will always be studies supporting both sides of an argument, however I have learned all about this throughout college and it does make sense if you think about it. It does not make sense that completely cutting out all nutrients, calories, glucose, etc from the body would have all of these benefits to our internal systems.

I mean when you stop eating everything starts to slowly be broken down in your body. Plus when you aren't getting the right nutrients your immune system gets weaker too. It's just not very healthy for the body.

I don't know what you plan on consuming in liquids but sounds like you can get hyponatremic. That's probably why you heard people passing out as a side effect.

It's misunderstood basic science, and it does not make sense from an evolutionary viewpoint. Most of the doctors I went to were educated within that paradigm, and they drove my health into absolute shit. An endocrinologist who understood the benefits of fasting and consuming very little glucose reversed most of those health problems. I don't think fasting is the solution for everyone, but starvation mode from fasting is a myth, and it's based primarily on the Minnesota Starvation Experiment, which employed extreme caloric restriction, not fasting.

I have done this. It is not the most safe thing to do nor is it fun...When I broke my fast I ate like a pig so I guess I defeated the whole purpose of it.

I have decided that if I do it, it will be after the holidays so that I can still feast on Xmas lol, and will be for no longer than 3 days.

Honestly, the proteins from my muscle being used up sounds like a good thing right now too and I was also looking for a way to lose muscle. I posted before about how my legs got way too big and bulky from doing squats for so long. Obviously, not all the muscle will go away in three days but it will be a good start to the low-protein diet I am going on for a bit after to hopefully lose muscle, as well as walking/running on a treadmill first thing in the morning so my body can further eat away at the muscle that is in my legs lol.

Will be sad to see my butt and abs go too but I just can't stand how my legs look.

Thank you everyone for your advice and I will post back here about the 3 day water fast should I go through with it.

My opinion is that it sounds very dangerous..no I'm no medical pro, but starving yourself for that long has all kinds of nope written all over it!
I also have digestive probs (IBS, & acid reflux) I can't eat very much @ one sitting..
Have your seen a regular Dr. or Gastroenterologist?
I think it would be better to eat several small meals, they say that is good for most everyone anyways..
It helps me. Staying away from most dairy has helped (I do eat plain yogurt). I love soups, low sodium ones. For me, I have yogurt 3x a wk for breakfast, sometimes fruit, & for me esp. a freshly peeled grapefruit is very cleansing, it helps w/appetite surpressing a little. Also I eat oatmeal for breakfast. I can't eat a lot of big meals, I ate a hamburger the other day (plain btw, no fries, no cheese) & felt stuffed. I cut down on a lot of protein. I try to eat more veggies, soups, of course, some salads, snack on non salted nuts.
I drink sparkling water, it helps w/digestion & the acid reflux.
I also do a little yoga when I wake up

I lost a lot of weight doing intermittent fasting. I usually have a window of eating from 2-8 and the weight came off very easily for me without starving myself. I was 135- and now I am around 112. I also have a one day fast usually on Sundays, I can have juice if I really need it or just water with lemon. Honestly over 3 days for water fasting can make you feel very sick if your body is not used to it. I am very used to water fasts but when I first started over a day with just water I would get very sick because it is extremely detoxifying if you are not used to it. I think to clear up health issues water fasting is great. You have to be careful when breaking any type of fast by using things like vegetable broth, juice and/ or juicy fruits like melon. I used to suffer from chronic migraines, stomach pains, and acne that I have gotten rid of entirely with diet changes and fasting but it's not necessary for weight loss.

I have seen doctors for my digestive disorder but had trouble getting referred to a Gastroenterologist.

I am the same as you when it comes to my body and big meals. I have to break my meals up very, very tiny or I feel stuffed, sick, nauseous, ect. I can usually only eat about half a cup of something at a time and fiber has to be very, very limited with me because my body just not digest it. Breaking up the meals into smaller portions still does not help with bloating to the point where I look like I'm 4 months pregnant though.

I read that Iberogast can help with the bloating and nausea though, so going to try that as soon as I get back to eating my normal, smaller meals again.

Yes, this is what I have read for water fasting.

The first day to break a fast, only fruit juices.

The second day, fruit juices and coconut water, water melon, things like that.

And the third day you can start adding boiled vegetables to the mix.

Not a professional in anyway obviously..I hear detox fasting is a myth as most toxins are absorbed in the intestinal lining (death occurs mostly in the gut) however, believe with good choices and a strict diet can reverse and heal within time. (I still drink detox tea anyways, but who knows..can't hurt to try every health crave once.)

Aww. I know, the bloating SUCKS! I still get it, though not as bad. My 1st appt w/the Gastro, I was so upset (I didn't know I had IBS til he told me that day) I couldn't wear not one pr of pants I had, except sweats b/c of the bloating.
I had to cut down on my grapefruit last wk, cause I stupidly ate chipoltley sauce, (which had blk pepper in it). My tum got irritated from that.
The grapefruit really helps me w/the bloating, I drink a little coffee afterward. I also drink a fair amt of water after since it's so acidy. I also am big on foods that are good for your liver: walnuts, artichokes, grapefruit of course. There's more that's all I can remember

I wanted to write what BambiCutie wrote. If you have problem with illumination, alltoxins will re obsorb in your gut again.
I would go with organic coffee enema.
If after eating you feel not good, i had same thing when i had liver problem. But years of eating healthy complitle healed my liver! Drinking everyday an organic bone broth also helped me with my gut and helped other person with chron's.
I had anemia for years too, made me very weak, i slept so much. I cant imagine in that state of not feeling well go true the detox....
Bloating can be because of candida, sibo but also because of estrogen if your illuminating system does not work well you repbsorb it.
When you do water detox, wEr must be good! Not that shit from store which so,d out in plastic. You also have to buy mineral drops. In 6 days you will starve not only bad bactera but also good one. If you had already unbalance bad bacteria may over take!

Wow this is very similar to how I felt, my body was always weak, never ate throughout the day and sleeping from exhaustion even though I didn't stress myself actively. One of the harder things for me to get rid of is excessive estrogen. Going to try the enema and mineral drops, thanks for the product recommendation!

estrogen problem is when you get way to bloated and waterretention before period, heavy pms, weight gain around belly, tiredness, acne over chin. For this you need milk thistle and dim- complex(or you can juise kale, cabbage, brocoli) ,and green organic coffee enema. To help your liver to detox all bad stuff.
If you suspect that you have anemia, mine did not even show up on my blood work.anemia symptoms are tiredness, fatigue, heavy period, moodiness, weakness. i used to wake up after 12 hours of sleep and still be sleepy, heavy breath( i used to lose my breath i could not breath enough like a person with asthma),irregular heart beat.
I actually tried iron suppliments and there was iron in my multi vitamin. But i guess i did not absorb anything. So i heard about liver. I was like in this point i will eat shit if it helps. After taking liver for 1 ONE day i was so good, i had so much energy i did not know where to put myself. I take it already for almost 2 month. Everything going smooth i wake up and go exersise( i never liked to even exersise before at the morning)after i eat my breakfast and take a liver which is in my freezer chopped, i have energy all day long ofc my diet contributed greatly too.
Ah also almost forgot. Iva maybe you have not enough stomach juice. You can juice a cabbage or buy on amazon vitamin U( which is a cabbage, mostly used by people who has ulcers, vit U helps to heal it.) helps to have more stomach juice and ofc digest better food.
I Really tried hard for many years to fix myself. Food is a key! Since i started eat localy, i feel like i contribute for a good cause(humanly raised free range animals which have been eating non gmo grass). I buy eggs from a farmer they are expensive but yolk is like dark orange! And when i weighted them 24 eggs were like 3lbs. Which means chicken was totaly free range and ate a right food, he is very honest about everything invited me on his farm to see everything.
